DRIVER ALERT LIMITATIONS
Driver alert may not function correctly if:
•The sensor cannot track the road lanemarkings.
•Your vehicle's speed is less thanapproximately 40 mph (65 km/h).

Resetting Driver Alert
You can reset the system by either:
•Switching the ignition off and on.
•Stopping the vehicle and then openingand closing the driver door.

We recommend that you disconnect thenegative battery cable terminal from thebattery if you plan to store your vehicle foran extended period.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid unintended connection orarcing.
To maintain correct operation of the batterymanagement system, if you add anyelectrical devices to your vehicle, do notconnect the ground connection directly tothe negative battery terminal. A connectionat the negative battery terminal can causeinaccurate measurements of the batterycondition and potential incorrect systemoperation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to your vehicle this mayadversely affect battery performance,durability and the performance of otherelectrical systems on your vehicle.
If you replace the battery make sure itmatches the electrical requirements of yourvehicle.
If you disconnect or replace the battery andyour vehicle has an automatic transmission,it must relearn its adaptive strategy. Becauseof this, the transmission may shift firmly whenfirst driven. This is normal operation whilethe transmission fully updates its operationto optimum shift feel.
Remove and Reinstall the Battery
To disconnect or remove the battery, do thefollowing:
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off.
2.Switch all electrical equipment off, forexample lights and radio.
3.Wait a minimum of two minutes beforedisconnecting the battery.
Note:The engine management system hasa power hold function and remains poweredfor a period of time after you switch theignition off. This is to allow diagnostic andadaptive tables to be stored. Disconnectingthe battery without waiting can causedamage not covered by the vehicleWarranty.
4.Disconnect the negative battery cableterminal.
5.Disconnect the positive battery cableterminal.
6.Remove the battery securing clamp.
7.Remove the battery.
8.To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Note:Before reconnecting the battery, makesure the ignition remains switched off.
Note:Make sure the battery cable terminalsare fully tightened.
Note:After cleaning or replacing the battery,make sure you reinstall the battery cover orshield.
If you disconnect or replace the vehiclebattery, you must reset the followingfeatures:
•Window bounce-back. See Windows(page 131).
•Clock Settings.
•Pre-set radio stations.
•Steering Angle Sensor.

Note:To calibrate the steering angle sensor,drive the vehicle above 30 mph (50 km/h)for a minimum of 1.2 mi (2 km). Make sure todrive straight ahead for a minimum of 30seconds. Several vehicle functions aredisabled and a warning light could appearuntil the sensor is calibrated.
Note:The battery sensor must be reset whena new battery is installed. Install only abattery approved by Ford for use in thevehicle. Use the following procedure toperform the battery sensor reset:
1.1. Turn ignition to on and leave engineoff. Steps 2 and 3 must be completedwithin 10 seconds.
2.2. Flash the high beams 5 times, endingwith the high beams off.
3.3. Press and release the brake pedal 3times.
The battery warning light on the cluster willflash 3 times to confirm that the reset wassuccessful.
Battery Management System
The battery management system monitorsbattery conditions and takes actions toextend battery life. If excessive battery drainis detected, the system temporarily disablessome of the following features:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplay to alert you that battery protectionactions are active.
After battery replacement, or in some casesafter charging the battery with an externalcharger, the battery management systemrequires eight hours of vehicle sleep time torelearn the battery state of charge. Duringthis time your vehicle must remain fullylocked with the ignition off.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability.This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
Battery Disposal
Make sure that you dispose of oldbatteries in an environmentallyfriendly way. Seek advice fromyour local authority about recycling oldbatteries.
ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMPS
Vertical Aim Adjustment
The headlamps on your vehicle are properlyaimed at the assembly plant. If your vehiclehas been involved in a crash, have the aimof the headlamp beam checked by anauthorized dealer.

CLEANING WHEELS
Only use a recommended wheel and tirecleaner to clean the wheels weekly. Foradditional information and assistance, werecommend that you contact an authorizeddealer.
1.Use a sponge to remove heavy depositsof dirt and brake dust.
2.Rinse well after cleaning.
Note:Do not apply a cleaning chemical towarm or hot wheel rims and covers.
If you intend on parking your vehicle for anextended period after cleaning the wheelswith a wheel cleaner, drive your vehicle fora few minutes before parking your vehicle.This reduces the risk of corrosion of thebrake discs, brake pads and linings.
Do not clean the wheels when they are hot.
Note: Some car washes could damagewheel rims and covers.
Note: Using non-recommended cleaners,harsh cleaning products, chrome wheelcleaners or abrasive materials coulddamage wheel rims and covers.
CLEANING THE ENGINECOMPARTMENT
Use a vacuum cleaner to remove debris fromthe screen area below windshield.
Note:If you are not familiar with the partsaround the engine do not wash the enginecompartment. Avoid frequent enginewashes.
When washing the engine compartment:
•Never wash or rinse the engine while itis hot or running.
•Never wash or rinse any ignition coil,spark plug wire or spark plug well.
•Cover the battery, power distribution box,and air filter assembly to prevent waterdamage.
Note:If your vehicle has an engine coverremove the cover before application ofshampoo and degreaser.
•Spray an approved engine shampoo anddegreaser on all parts that requirecleaning and rinse with water.
CLEANING STRIPES OR GRAPHICS
It is recommended to wash your vehicle byhand however, pressure washing may beused under the following conditions:
•Use a spray with a 40° wide spray anglepattern.
•Keep the nozzle at a 12 in (305 mm)distance and 90° angle to your vehicle'ssurface.
•Do not use water pressure higher than2,000 psi (14,000 kPa).
•Do not use water hotter than 179°F (82°C).
Note:Holding the pressure washer nozzleat an angle to the vehicle's surface maydamage graphics and cause the edges topeel away from the vehicle's surface.
CLEANING CAMERA LENSES ANDSENSORS
We recommend that you only use lukewarmor cold water and a soft cloth to clean thecamera lens and sensors.

WAXING
Wax the high-gloss painted surface of yourprewashed vehicle once or twice a year.
We recommend that you only use anapproved quality wax that does not containabrasives. For additional information andassistance, we recommend that you contactan authorized dealer.
When washing and waxing, park your vehiclein a shaded area out of direct sunlight.
Note:Avoid waxing unpainted or low-glossblack colored parts, they discolor over time.
CLEANING THE INTERIOR
CLEANING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL
WARNING: Do not use chemicalsolvents or strong detergents whencleaning the steering wheel or instrumentpanel to avoid contamination of the airbagsystem.
We recommend that you only clean theinstrument panel and cluster lens with adamp soft cloth. Dry the area with a clean,soft cloth.
For additional information and assistance,we recommend that you contact anauthorized dealer.
Note:Avoid cleaners or polishes thatincrease the gloss of the upper portion ofthe instrument panel. The dull finish in thisarea helps protect you from undesirablewindshield reflection.
CLEANING PLASTIC
We recommend that you only use a mildsoap and water solution on a soft cloth. Drythe area with a clean, soft cloth.
CLEANING DISPLAYS AND SCREENS
We recommend that you only use amicrofiber cloth in a circular motion to cleanoff the fingerprint or dust.
If dirt or fingerprints are still on the screen,apply a small amount of alcohol to the clothand try to clean it again.
Note:Do not pour or spray alcohol onto thetouchscreen.
Note: Do not use detergent or any type ofsolvent to clean the touchscreen.
CLEANING LEATHER AND VINYL
We recommend that you only clean theleather and vinyl surfaces in the followingway:
1.Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.

It is recommended that the two fronttires or two rear tires generally bereplaced as a pair if the worn tires stillhave usable depth.
To avoid potential All-Wheel Drive (AWD)malfunction or (AWD) system damage,it is recommended to replace all fourtires rather than mixing significantly worntires with new tires.
The tire pressure sensors mounted inthe wheels (originally installed on yourvehicle) are not designed to be used inaftermarket wheels.
The use of wheels or tires notrecommended may affect the operationof your tire pressure monitoring system.
If the tire pressure monitoring system
indicator is flashing, your system ismalfunctioning. Your replacement tiremight be incompatible with your tirepressure monitoring system, or somecomponent of the system may bedamaged.
Age
WARNING: Tires degrade overtime depending on many factors suchas weather, storage conditions, andconditions of use (load, speed, inflationpressure) the tires experiencethroughout their lives.In general, tires should be replacedafter six years regardless of treadwear. However, heat caused by hotclimates or frequent high loadingconditions can accelerate the agingprocess and may require tires to bereplaced more frequently.You should replace your spare tirewhen you replace the road tires orafter six years due to aging even if it
has not been used.
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
Both United States and Canada Federalregulations require tire manufacturersto place standardized information on thesidewall of all tires. This informationidentifies and describes the fundamentalcharacteristics of the tire and alsoprovides a U.S. DOT Tire IdentificationNumber for safety standard certificationand in case of a recall.
This begins with the letters DOT andindicates that the tire meets all federalstandards. The next two numbers orletters are the plant code designatingwhere it was manufactured, the next twoare the tire size code and the last fournumbers represent the week and yearthe tire was built. For example, the
numbers 317 mean the 31st week of1997. After 2000, the numbers go to fourdigits. For example, 2501 means the25th week of 2001. The numbers inbetween are identification codes usedfor traceability. This information is usedto contact customers if a tire defectrequires a recall.

If you feel a sudden vibration or ridedisturbance while driving, or you suspectyour tire or vehicle has been damaged,immediately reduce your speed. Drivewith caution until you can safely pull offthe road. Stop and inspect the tires fordamage. If a tire is under-inflated ordamaged, deflate it, remove the wheeland replace it with your spare tire andwheel. If you cannot detect a cause,have the vehicle towed to the nearestrepair facility or tire dealer to have thevehicle inspected.
Tire and Wheel Alignment
A bad jolt from hitting a curb or potholecan cause the front end of your vehicleto become misaligned or cause damageto your tires. If your vehicle seems topull to one side when you are driving,the wheels could be out of alignment.Have an authorized dealer check thewheel alignment periodically.
Wheel misalignment in the front or therear can cause uneven and rapidtreadwear of your tires and should becorrected by an authorized dealer.
INSPECTING THE WHEEL VALVE
STEMS
Check the valve stems for holes, cracks,or cuts that could permit air leakage.
TIRE ROTATION
WARNING: If the tire label showsdifferent tire pressures for the front andrear tires and the vehicle has a tirepressure monitoring system, then you needto update the settings for the systemsensors. Always perform the system resetprocedure after tire rotation. If you do notreset the system, it may not provide a lowtire pressure warning when necessary.
Rotating your tires at the recommendedinterval will help your tires wear more evenly,providing better tire performance and longertire life.
Note:If your tires show any uneven wearhave the alignment checked by anauthorized dealer before rotating tires.
Note:If you have a dissimilar spare wheeland tire assembly, it is intended fortemporary use only and should not be usedin a tire rotation.
Note:After having your tires rotated, inflationpressure must be checked and adjusted tothe vehicle requirements.
