Your vehicle has electronic control units thathave data recording functionality and theability to permanently or temporarily storedata. This data could include information onthe condition and status of your vehicle,vehicle maintenance requirements, eventsand malfunctions. The types of data that canbe recorded are described in this section.Some of the data recorded is stored in eventlogs or error logs.
Note:Error logs are reset following a serviceor repair.

Data recorded includes, for example:
•Operating states of system components,for example fuel level, tire pressure andbattery charge level.

•Events or errors in essential systems, forexample headlamps and brakes.
•System responses to driving situations,for example airbag deployment andstability control.

Some of this data, when used in combinationwith other information, for example anaccident report, damage to a vehicle oreyewitness statements, could be associatedwith a specific person.

CHILD SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Always make sure yourchild is secured properly in a device thatis appropriate for their height, age andweight. Child safety restraints must bebought separately from your vehicle.Failure to follow these instructions andguidelines may result in an increased riskof serious injury or death to your child.
WARNING: All children are shapeddifferently. The National Highway TrafficSafety Administration and other safetyorganizations, base their recommendationsfor child restraints on probable child height,age and weight thresholds, or on theminimum requirements of the law. Werecommend that you check with a NHTSACertified Child Passenger SafetyTechnician (CPST) to make sure that youproperly install the child restraint in yourvehicle and that you consult yourpediatrician to make sure you have a childrestraint appropriate for your child. Tolocate a child restraint fitting station and
CPST, contact NHTSA toll free at1-888-327-4236 or go towww.nhtsa.dot.gov. In Canada, contactTransport Canada toll free at1-800-333-0371 or go to www.tc.gc.ca tofind a Child Car Seat Clinic in your area.Failure to properly restrain children in childrestraints made especially for their height,age and weight, may result in an increasedrisk of serious injury or death to your child.
WARNING: On hot days, thetemperature inside the vehicle can risevery quickly. Exposure of people or animalsto these high temperatures for even a shorttime can cause death or serious heatrelated injuries, including brain damage.Small children are particularly at risk.
WARNING: Do not place a rearwardfacing child restraint in front of an activeairbag. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Properly secure children12 years old and under in a rear seatingposition whenever possible. If you areunable to properly secure all children in arear seating position, properly secure thelargest child on the front seat. If you mustuse a forward facing child restraint on thefront seat, move the seat as far back aspossible. Failure to follow theseinstructions could result in personal injuryor death.
WARNING: Always carefully followthe instructions and warnings provided bythe manufacturer of any child restraint todetermine if the restraint device isappropriate for your child's size, height,weight, or age. WARNING: Do not allow a passengerto hold a child on their lap when yourvehicle is moving. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death in the event of a sudden stop orcrash.
WARNING: Do not use pillows, booksor towels to boost your child's height.Failure to follow this instruction could resultin personal injury or death.
WARNING: Properly secure childrestraints or booster seats when they arenot in use. They could become projectilesin a sudden stop or crash. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury or death.
WARNING: Do not put the shouldersection of the seatbelt or allow the child toput the shoulder section of the seatbeltunder their arm or behind their back.Failure to follow this instruction couldreduce the effectiveness of the seatbeltand increase the risk of injury or death ina crash.

When installing a child restraint withseatbelts:
•Place the vehicle seat in the uprightposition before you install the childrestraint.
•Use the correct seatbelt buckle for thatseating position.
•Insert the belt tongue into the buckle.Make sure the tongue is securelyfastened in the buckle.
•Keep the buckle release button pointingup and away from the child restraint, withthe tongue between the child restraintand the release button, to preventaccidental unbuckling.
•Put the seatbelt in the automatic lockingmode.

INSTALLING CHILD RESTRAINTS
USING SEATBELTS
WARNING: Depending on where yousecure a child restraint, and depending onthe child restraint design, you may blockaccess to certain seatbelt buckleassemblies and LATCH lower anchors,rendering those features potentiallyunusable. To avoid risk of injury, make sureoccupants only use seating positionswhere they are able to be properlyrestrained.
Note:Although the child restraint illustratedis a forward-facing child restraint, the stepsare the same for installing a rear-facing childrestraint.
Perform the following steps when installingthe child restraint with seatbelts:
1.Position the child restraint in a seat witha seatbelt.
2.After positioning the child restraint in theproper seating position, pull down on theshoulder belt and then grasp theshoulder belt and lap belt togetherbehind the belt tongue.
3.While holding the shoulder and lap beltportions together, route the tonguethrough the child restraint according tothe child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions. Make sure that you did nottwist the belt webbing.

of the child to the child restraint. It alsohelps to achieve the proper snugness ofthe child restraint to your vehicle.Sometimes, a slight lean toward thebuckle will provide extra help to removeremaining slack from the belt.
9.If the child restraint has a tether strap,attach it.
10.Before placing the child in the seat,forcibly move the seat forward and backto make sure the seat is securely heldin place. To check this, grab the seat atthe belt path and attempt to move itside to side and forward and back.There should be no more than 1 in(2.5 cm) of movement.
We recommend checking with a NHTSACertified Child Passenger Safety Technicianto make certain the child restraint is properlyinstalled. In Canada, check with TransportCanada for referral to a Child Car Seat Clinic.
USING LOWER ANCHORS ANDTETHERS FOR CHILDREN
WARNING: Do not attach two childsafety restraints to the same anchor. In acrash, one anchor may not be strongenough to hold two child safety restraintattachments and may break, causingserious injury or death.

The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers forCHildren) system has three vehicle anchorpoints.
•Two lower anchors where the seatbackrest and seat cushion meet, calledthe seat bight.
•One top tether anchor behind thatseating position.

LATCH-compatible child restraints have tworigid or webbing mounted attachments thatconnect to the two lower anchors at theLATCH-equipped seating positions in yourvehicle. This type of attachment methodeliminates the need to use seatbelts to attachthe child restraint.
However, you can still use the seatbelt toattach the child restraint. For forward-facingchild restraints, you must also attach the toptether strap to the proper top tether anchorif a top tether strap has been provided withyour child restraint.
Follow the instructions on attaching childrestraints with tether straps.
INSTALLING A CHILD RESTRAINT INA CENTER SEAT
WARNING: The standardized spacingfor LATCH lower anchors is 11 in (280 mm)center to center. Do not use LATCH loweranchors for the center seating positionunless the child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions permit and specify usinganchors spaced at least as far apart asthose in this vehicle.
The lower anchors at the center of thesecond row rear seat are spaced 20 in(51 cm) apart. You cannot install a childrestraint with rigid LATCH attachments at thecenter seating position. You can only useLATCH-compatible child restraints withattachments on belt webbing at this seatingposition provided that the child restraintmanufacturer's instructions permit use withthe anchor spacing stated. Do not attach achild restraint to any lower anchor if anadjacent child restraint is attached to thatanchor.
Each time you use the child restraint, checkthat the seat is properly attached to the loweranchors and tether anchor, if applicable. Tugthe child restraint from side to side andforward and back where it is secured to yourvehicle. The seat should move less than 1 in(2.5 cm).
If you did not properly anchor the childrestraint, the risk of a child being injured ina crash greatly increases.
COMBINING THE SEATBELT ANDLOWER ANCHORS FOR ATTACHINGCHILD RESTRAINTS
When used in combination, you may attacheither the seatbelt or the LATCH loweranchors first, provided a proper installationis achieved. Attach the tether strap afterward,if it is included with the child restraint.

If the booster seat slides on the vehicle seatupon which it is being used, placing arubberized mesh sold as shelf or carpet linerunder the booster seat may improve thiscondition. Do not use any item thicker thanthis under the booster seat. Check with thebooster seat manufacturer's instructions.
CHILD SAFETY LOCKS
WARNING: You cannot open the reardoors from inside if you have put the childsafety locks on.
A child safety lock is on the rear edge ofeach rear door. You must switch the childsafety lock separately on each door.
Left-Hand Side
Turn the key counterclockwise to switch thechild lock off and clockwise to switch it on.
Right-Hand Side
Turn the key clockwise to switch the childlock off and counterclockwise to switch it on.
