QBreaking in your new Lexus
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing
the following precautions is recommended:
OFor the first 186 miles (300 km):
Avoid sudden stops.
OFor the first 621 miles (1000 km):
• Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
• Avoid sudden acceleration.
• Do not drive continuously in low gears.
• Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
QOperating your vehicle in a foreign
country
Comply with the releva nt vehicle registra-
tion laws and confirm the availability of the
correct fuel. ( P.403)
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
QWhen starting the vehicle
Always keep your foot on the brake
pedal while stopped with the “READY”
indicator is illuminated. This prevents the
vehicle from creeping.
QWhen driving the vehicle
ODo not drive if you are unfamiliar with
the location of the brake and accelera-
tor pedals to avoid depressing the
wrong pedal.
• Accidentally depressing the accelera- tor pedal instead of the brake pedal
will result in sudden acceleration that
may lead to an accident.
• When backing up, you may twist your body around, leading to a difficulty in
operating the pedals. Make sure to
operate the pedals properly.
• Make sure to keep a correct driving posture even when moving the vehicle
only slightly. This allows you to depress
the brake and accelerator pedals
properly.
• Depress the brake pedal using your right foot. Depressing the brake pedal
using your left foot may delay
response in an emer gency, resulting in
an accident.
OThe driver should pay extra attention
to pedestrians when the vehicle is
powered only by the electric motor
(traction motor). As there is minimal
motor noise, pedestrians may mis-
judge the vehicle’s movement. Even if
the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting system
is operating, drive with care as pedes-
trians in the vicinity may still not notice
the vehicle if the surrounding area is
noisy.
ODo not drive the vehicle over or stop
the vehicle near flammable materials
such as leaves, paper or rags.
The exhaust system and exhaust gases
can be extremely hot. These hot parts
may cause a fire if there is any flamma-
ble material nearby.

The Lexus Safety System + 2.5 con-
sists of the following drive assist sys-
tems and contributes to a safe and
comfortable driving experience:

QLexus Safety System + 2.5
The Lexus Safety System + 2.5 is
designed to operate under the assump-
tion that the driver will drive safely, and is
designed to help reduce the impact to
the occupants and the vehicle in the case
of a collision or assist the driver in normal
driving conditions.
As there is a limit to the degree of recog-
nition accuracy and control performance
that this system can provide, do not
overly rely on this system. The driver is
always responsible for paying attention
to the vehicle’s surroundings and driving
safely.

Otherwise, the radar sensor may not
operate properly, possibly leading to an

QIntersection right/left turn assis-
tance
If the system determines that there is a
high possibility of a collision in the fol-
lowing situations, it will assist with Pre-
collision warning and, if necessary Pre-
collision braking.
Depending on the configuration of the
intersection, it may not be possible to
support.
 When you turn right/left at an inter-
section and cross the path of an
oncoming vehicle
 When you turn right/left, pedestrian
is detected in the forward direction
and estimated to enter your vehi-
cle’s path (bicyclists are not
detected.)QSuspension control (if equipped)
When the system determines that the
possibility of a frontal collision is high,
the Adaptive Variable Suspension Sys-
tem ( P.253) will control the damp-
ing force of the shock absorbers to
help maintain an appropriate vehicle
posture.
WARNING
QLimitations of the pre-collision sys-
tem
OThe driver is solely responsible for safe
driving. Always drive safely, taking
care to observe your surroundings.
Do not use the pre-collision system
instead of normal braking operations
under any circumstances. This system
will not prevent collisions or lessen col-
lision damage or injury in every situa-
tion. Do not overly rely on this system.
Failure to do so may lead to an acci-
dent, resulting in death or serious
injury.

QBefore using LTA system
ODo not rely solely upon the LTA sys-
tem. The LTA system does not auto-
matically drive the vehicle or reduce
the amount of attention that must be
paid to the area in front of the vehicle.
The driver must always assume full
responsibility for driving safely by pay-
ing careful attention to the surround-
ing conditions and operating the
steering wheel to correct the path of
the vehicle. Also, the driver must take
adequate breaks when fatigued, such
as from driving for a long period of
time.
OFailure to perform appropriate driving
operations and pay careful attention
may lead to an accident, resulting in
death or serious injury.
QSituations unsuitable for LTA system
In the following situations, use the LTA
switch to turn the system off. Failure to do
so may lead to an acc ident, resulting in
death or serious injury.
OVehicle is driven on a road surface
which is slippery due to rainy weather,
fallen snow, freezing, etc.
OVehicle is driven on a snow-covered
road.
OWhite (yellow) lines are difficult to see
due to rain, snow, fog, dust, etc.
OVehicle is driven in a temporary lane
or restricted lane due to construction
work.
OVehicle is driven in a construction
zone.
OA spare tire, tire chains, etc. are
equipped.
OWhen the tires have been excessively
worn, or when the tire inflation pres-
sure is low.
ODuring emergency towing
QPreventing LTA system malfunctions
and operations performed by mistake
ODo not modify the headlights or place
stickers, etc. on the surface of the
lights.
ODo not modify the suspension etc. If
the suspension etc. needs to be
replaced, contact your Lexus dealer.
ODo not install or place anything on the
hood or grille. Also, do not install a
grille guard (bull bars, kangaroo bar,
etc.).
OIf your windshield needs repairs, con-
tact your Lexus dealer.
QConditions in which functions may
not operate properly
In the following situations, the functions
may not operate properly and the vehi-
cle may depart from its lane. Drive safely
by always paying careful attention to
your surroundings and operate the
steering wheel to correct the path of the
vehicle without relying solely on the func-
tions.
OWhen the follow-up cruising display is
displayed ( P.197) and the preced-
ing vehicle changes lanes. (Your vehi-
cle may follow the preceding vehicle
and also change lanes.)
OWhen the follow-up cruising display is
displayed ( P.197) and the preced-
ing vehicle is swaying. (Your vehicle
may sway accordingly and depart from
the lane.)

In vehicle-to-vehicle distance con-
trol mode, the vehicle automati-
cally accelerates, decelerates and
stops to match the speed changes
of the preceding vehicle even if the
accelerator pedal is not depressed.

ODriving safely is the sole responsibility
of the driver. Do not rely solely on the
system, and drive safely by always pay-
ing careful attention to your surround-
ings.
OThe dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range provides driving
assistance to reduce the driver’s bur-
den. However, there are limitations to
the assistance provided.
Read the following conditions care-
fully. Do not overly rely on this system
and always drive carefully.
• When the sensor may not be correctly detecting the vehicle ahead: P.213
• Conditions under which the vehicle- to-vehicle distance control mode may
not function correctly: P.213
OSet the speed appropriately depend-
ing on the speed limit, traffic flow, road
conditions, weather conditions, etc.
The driver is responsible for checking
the set speed.

The vehicle travels at the speed set by the driver.
Example of deceleration cruising and follow-up cruising
When a preceding vehicle driving slower than the set speed appears
When a vehicle is detected running ahead of you, the system automatically decelerates
your vehicle. When a greater reduction in vehicle speed is necessary, the system applies
the brakes (the stop lights will come on at th is time). The system will respond to changes in
the speed of the vehicle ahead in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance set by
the driver. Approach warning warns you when the system cannot decelerate sufficiently to
prevent your vehicle from closing in on the vehicle ahead.
When the vehicle ahead of you stops, your vehicl e will also stop (vehicle is stopped by sys-
tem control). After the vehicle ahead starts off, pressing the “+RES” switch or depressing
the accelerator pedal (start-off operation) will resume follow-up cruising. If the start-off
operation is not performed, system contro l continues to keep your vehicle stopped.
When the turn signal lever is operated and your vehicle moves to an overtaking lane while
driving at 50 mph (80 km/h) or more, the vehicle will accelerate to help to overtake a
passing vehicle.
The system’s identification of what is an overtaking lane may be determined solely based on
the location of the steering wheel in the vehicl e (left side driver position versus right side
driver position.) If the vehicle is driven to a region where the overtaking lane is on a differ-
ent side from where the vehicle is normally driven, the vehicle may accelerate when the
turn signal lever is operated in the opposite direction to the overtaking lane (e.g., if the
driver normally operates the vehicle in a region where the overtaking lane is to the right but
then drives to a region where the overtaking lane is to the left, the vehicle may accelerate
when the right turn signal is activated).
Example of acceleration
When there are no longer any preceding vehicles driving slower than the set
speed
The system accelerates until the set speed is reached. The system then returns to constant
speed cruising.

QSituations in which the curve speed
reduction function may not operate
In situations such as the following, the curve
speed reduction function may not operate:
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
a gentle curve.
OWhen the accelerator pedal is being
depressed.
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
an extremely short curve.
QBrake operation
A brake operation sound may be heard and
the brake pedal response may change, but
these are not malfunctions.
QWarning messages and buzzers for
dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range
Warning messages and buzzers are used to
indicate a system malfunction or to inform
the driver of the need for caution while driv-
ing. If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information displa y, read the message
and follow the instructions. ( P.180, 374)
QWhen the sensor may not be correctly
detecting the vehicle ahead
In the case of the following and depending
on the conditions, operate the brake pedal
when deceleration of the system is insuffi-
cient or operate the accelerator pedal
when acceleration is required.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect these types of vehicles, the approach
warning ( P.210) may not be activated.
OVehicles that cut in suddenly
OVehicles traveling at low speeds
OVehicles that are not moving in the same
lane
OVehicles with small rear ends (trailers
with no load on board, etc.)
OMotorcycles traveling in the same lane
OWhen water or snow thrown up by the
surrounding vehicles hinders the detect-
ing of the sensor
OWhen your vehicle is pointing upwards
(caused by a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, etc.)
OPreceding vehicle has an extremely high
ground clearance
QConditions under wh ich the vehicle-to-
vehicle distance control mode may not
function correctly
In the case of the following conditions,
operate the brake pedal (or accelerator
pedal, depending on the situation) as nec-
essary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly
detect vehicles ahead, the system may not
operate properly.
OWhen the road curves or when the lanes
are narrow
OWhen steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

ates suddenly
OWhen driving on a road surrounded by a
structure, such as in a tunnel or on a
bridge
OWhile the vehicle speed is decreasing to

In situations such as the following, the curve
speed reduction function may not operate
properly:
OWhen the vehicle is being driven around
a curve on an incline/decline
OWhen the course of the vehicle differs
from the shape of the curve
OWhen the vehicle speed is excessively
high when entering a curve
OWhen the steering wheel is suddenly
operated

Turn the Blind Spot Monitor on/off.
BSM (Blind Spot Monitor)
The Blind Spot Monitor is a system
that uses rear side radar sensors
installed on the inner side of the
rear bumper on the left and right
side to assist the driver in confirm-
ing safety when changing lanes.
WARNING
QCautions regarding the use of the
function
The driver is solely responsible for safe
driving. Always drive safely, taking care
to observe your surroundings.
The Blind Spot Monitor is a supplemen-
tary function which alerts the driver that a
vehicle is in a blind spot of the outside
rear view mirrors or is approaching rap-
idly from behind into a blind spot. Do not
overly rely on the Blind Spot Monitor. As
the function cannot judge if it is safe to
change lanes, over reliance could lead to
an accident resulting in death or serious
injury.
As the system may not function correctly
under certain conditions, the driver’s
own visual confirmation of safety is nec-
essary.
