Press the lock button.

If you do not open a door within 30 seconds of

the doors will automatically relock.

The remote transmitter us es low-power signals, so
the operating range may vary depending on the
surroundings.
The remote transmitter will not lock the vehicle when
a door is open.
The remote transmitter will not work when the key is
in the ignition switch.
You can lock or unlock doors using the remote
transmitter or keyless access system only when the
power mode is in VEHICLE OFF.

If you do not have the key on you, or if fo r some reason you cannot lock a door using
the key, you can lock the door without it.
■Locking the driver’s door
Push the lock tab forward

master door lock switch in the lock direction

■Locking the passengers’ doors
Push the lock tab forward and close the door.
■Lockout prevention system
The doors and the tailgate cannot be locked when the key is in the ignition switch.
The doors and the tailgate cannot be locked when the keyless remote is inside the
vehicle.

When you lock the driver’s door, all the other doors
and tailgate lock at the same time.
Before locking a door, make sure that the key is not
inside the vehicle.

Opening/Closing the Tailgate
When all the doors are unlocked or you press
the tailgate unlock button on the remote
transmitter, the tailgate is unlocked. Press the
tailgate release button and lift open the
tailgate.
To close the tailgate, grab the inner handle,
pull the tailgate down, and push it closed
from outside.
If you close the tailgate when all the doors are
locked, the tailgate locks automatically. u Some exterior lights flash.1Opening/Closing the Tailgate
•Do not leave the keyless remote in the vehicle
when you get out. Carry it with you.
•Even if you are not carrying the keyless remote, you
can unlock the tailgate wh ile someone else with
the remote is within range.
•Do not leave the keyless re mote inside the cargo
area and close the tailgate. The beeper sounds and
the tailgate cannot be closed.
If you are carrying the keyless remote, you do not
have to unlock the tail gate before opening it.

Security System
Immobilizer System
The immobilizer system prevents a key that has not been pre-registered from
starting the engine. Each key contains electronic transmitters that use electronic
signals to verify the key.
Pay attention to the following when insert ing the key into the ignition switch or
pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button:
• Do not allow objects that emit strong ra dio waves near the ignition switch or the
ENGINE START/STOP button.
• Make sure the key is not covered by or touching a metal object.
• Do not bring a key from another vehicle’s immobilizer system near the ignition
switch or the ENGINE START/STOP button.
• Do not put the key near magnetic items. El ectronic device, such as televisions and
audio systems emit strong magnetic fiel ds. Note that even a key chain can
become magnetic.
Security System Alarm
The security system alarm activates when the tailgate, hood or doors are forcibly
opened. The alarm does not activate if the tailgate or doors are opened with the key,
remote transmitter or keyless access system

However, the alarm activates if a door is opened with the key and then the
transmission is taken out of
(P or the hood is opened before the ignition switch is
turned to ON

■When the security system alarm activates
The horn sounds intermittently and all of the exterior lights flash.
