■Oil capacity (Drain and refill ⎯ reference*)
*: The engine oil capacity is a reference quantity to be used when changing the
engine oil. Warm up the engine and turning off the hybrid system, wait more than
5 minutes, and check the oi l level on the dipstick.
■Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used
in your Toyota veh icle. Toyota rec-
ommends the use of approved
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil”.
Another motor oil of matching qual -
ity can also be used.
Oil grade:
0W-16:
API grade SN “Resource-Conserv -
ing” or SN PLUS “Resource-Con -
serving” multigrade engine oil
0W-20 and 5W-30:
API grade SL “Energy-Conserving”,
SM “Energy-Conserving”, SN
“Resource-Conserving” or SN
PLUS “Resource-Conserving”; or
ILSAC multigrade engine oil
Recommended visc osity (SAE):
SAE 0W-16 is filled into your
Toyota vehicle at manufacturing,
and the best choice for good fuel
economy and good starting in cold
weather.
If SAE 0W-16 oil is not available,
SAE 0W-20 oil may be used. How -
ever, it should be replaced with
SAE 0W-16 at the next oil change.

before next oil change
Oil viscosity (0W-16 is explained
here as an example):
• The 0W in 0W-16 indicates the
characteristic o f the oil which
allows cold startability. Oils with
a lower value before the W allow
for easier starting of the engine
in cold weather.
• The 16 in 0W-16 indicates the
viscosity characteristic of the oil
when the oil is at high tempera -
ture. An oil with a higher viscos -
ity (one with a higher value) may
be better suited if the vehicle is
operated at high speeds, or
under extreme load conditions.
How to read oil container labels:
Either or both API registered marks
are added to some oil containers to
help you select the oil you should
use.
API Service Symbol
Top portion: “API SERVICE SN” means
the oil quality designation by American
Petroleum Institute (API).
Center porti on: “SAE 0W-16” means
the SAE viscosity grade.
Lower portion: “Resource-Conserving”
means that the oil has fuel-saving and
environmental protection capabilities.
ILSAC Certification Mark
The International Lubricant Specifica -
tion Advisory Committee (ILSAC) Certi -
fication Mark is displayed on the front of
the container.
*: The coolant capacity is t he quantity of reference.

■Use of ethanol blended gasoline in
a gasoline engine
Toyota allows the use of ethanol
blended gasoline w here the ethanol
content is up to 10%. Make sure that the
ethanol blended gasoline to be used has
a Research Octane Number that follows
the above.
■If your engine knocks
●Consult any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
●You may occasionally notice light
knocking for a short time while accel -
erating or driving uphill. This is normal and there is no need for concern.
Fuel information
When you find these types of
fuel label at the gas station,
use only the fu el with one of
the following labels.
EU area:
You must only use unleaded
gasoline conforming to Euro -
pean standard EN228.
Select unleaded gasoline with
a Research Octane Number of
95 or higher for optimum
engine performance.
Except EU area:
You must only use unleaded
gasoline.
Select unleaded gasoline with
a Research Octane Number of
91 or higher for optimum
engine performance.
NOTICE
■Notice on fuel quality
●Do not use imp roper fuels. If
improper fuels are used, the engine will be damaged.
●Do not use gasoline with metallic additives, for example manganese,
iron or lead, otherwise it may cause
damage on your engine or emission control system.
●Do not add afte rmarket fuel addi- tives which contain metallic addi -
tives.
●EU area: Bioethanol fuel sold under
names such as “E50 ” or “E85” and
fuel containing a large amount of ethanol should n ot be used. The
use of these fuels will damage the
vehicle’s fuel system. In case of any doubt, ask any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●Except EU area: Bioethanol fuel
sold under names such as “E50” or “E85” and fuel containing a large
amount of ethanol should not be
used. Your vehicle can use gaso - line mixed with 10% max ethanol.
The use of fuel with more than 10%
ethanol content (E 10) will damage the vehicle’s fuel system. You must
ensure that refuelin g is carried out
only from a source where fuel spec - ification and qua lity can be guaran-
teed. In case of any doubt, ask any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
