■When installing in the
second outboard seats
Install the child restraint system in accordance to the operati on
manual enclosed with the child restraint system.
Adjust the seat
If there is a gap between the child seat and the seatback, adjust the
seatback angle until good contact is achieved.
If the head restraint interferes with the child restraint syste m
installation and the head restraint can be removed, remove the
head restraint. ( P. 158)

■Anchor brackets (for top tether strap)
Anchor brackets are provided for all second seats.
Use anchor brackets when fix-
ing the top tether strap.
WARNING
■ When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
● When using the LATCH anchors, be sure that there are no foreign objects
around the anchors and that the seat belt is not caught behind the child
restraint system.
● Follow all installation instructions provided by the child rest raint system
manufacturer.
● When securing some types of child restraint systems in second or third
row seats, it may not be possible to properly use the seat belt s in positions
next to the child restraint without interfering with it or affecting seat belt
effectiveness. Be sure your seat belt fits snugly across your shoulder and
low on your hips. If it does not, or if it interferes with the child restraint,
move to a different position. Failure to do so may result in de ath or serious
injury.
● If the seat is adjusted, reconfirm the security of the child re straint system.

Fixing the top tether strap to the anchor bracket
Install the child restraint system in accordance to the operati
on
manual enclosed with the child restraint system.

Adjust the head restraint to
the upmost position.
If the head restraint interferes
with the child restraint system
installation and the head
restraint can be removed,
remove the head restraint.

Open the anchor bracket
cover, latch the hook onto the
anchor bracket and tighten
the top tether strap.
Make sure the top tether strap is
securely latched. ( P. 71)
When installing the child
restraint system with the head
restraint being raised, be sure to
have the top tether strap pass
underneath the head restraint.
Adjust the head restraint to
the downmost position.

■Laws and regulations pertaining to anchors
The LATCH system conforms to FMVSS225
Child restraint systems conforming to FMVSS213 can be used.
This vehicle is designed to conform to SAE J1819.
WARNING
■When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
● Firmly attach the top tether strap and make sure that the belt is not twisted.
● Do not attach the top tether strap to anything other than the anchor
bracket.
● After securing a child restraint system, never adjust the seat.
● Follow all installation instructions provided by the child rest raint system
manufacturer.
NOTICE
■ Anchor brackets (for top tether strap)
When not in use, make certain to close the lid. If it remains o pen, the lid
may be damaged.

Operation of each component
WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant b eing thrown
out of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
● Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
● Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even
if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.
● Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seate d in the rear
seats.

5-1. Using the air conditioning system and defogger
Heated steering wheel/seat heaters/seat
ventilator s
: If equipped
Heated steering wheel and seat heaters heat the side grips of t he
steering wheel and seats. Seat ventilators maintain good airflo w
by blowing air from the seats.
WARNING
● Care should be taken to prevent injury if anyone in the following categories
comes in contact with the steering wheel and seats when the hea ter is on:
• Babies, small children, the elderly, the sick and the physical ly chal-
lenged
• Persons with sensitive skin
• Persons who are fatigued
• Persons who have taken alcohol or drugs that induce sleep (sle eping
drugs, cold remedies, etc.)
● Observe the following precautions to prevent the minor burns or overheat-
ing:
• Do not cover the seat with a blanket or cushion when using the seat
heater.
• Do not use seat heater more than necessary.
NOTICE
● Do not put heavy objects that have an uneven surface on the sea t and do
not stick sharp objects (needles, nails, etc.) into the seat.
● To prevent battery discharge, do not use the functions when the engine is
not running.
