■Automatic cancelation of EV
drive mode
When driving in EV drive mode, the
gasoline engine may automatically
restart in the following situations.
When EV drive mode is canceled, a
buzzer will sound, the EV drive
mode indicator will go off after flash-
ing, and a message is displayed on
the multi-information display.
●The hybrid battery (traction bat-
tery) becomes low.
The remaining batt ery level indi-
cated in the energy monitor dis-
play is low. ( P. 1 1 7 )
●Vehicle speed is high.
●The accelerator pedal is
depressed firmly or the vehicle is
on a hill, etc.
■Possible driving distance when
driving in EV drive mode
EV drive mode’s possible driving
distance ranges from a few hundred
meters to approxima tely 0.6 mile (1
km). However, depending on vehicle
conditions, there are situations
when EV drive mode cannot be
used.
(The distance that is possible
depends on the hybrid battery [trac-
tion battery] level and driving condi-
tions.)
■Fuel economy
The hybrid system is designed to
achieve the best possible fuel econ-
omy during normal driving (using
the gasoline engi ne and electric
motor [traction motor]). Driving in
EV drive mode more than neces-
sary may lower fuel economy.
■If “EV Mode Unavailable” is
shown on the multi-information
display
The EV drive mode is not available.
The reason the EV drive mode is
not available (the vehicle is idling,
battery charge is low, vehicle speed
is higher than the EV drive mode
operating speed range or accelera-
tor pedal is depressed too much) may be displayed. Use the EV drive
mode when it becomes available.
■If “EV Mode Deactivated” is
shown on the multi-information
display
The EV drive mode has been auto-
matically canceled. The reason the
EV drive mode is not available (the
battery charge is low, vehicle speed
is higher than the EV drive mode
operating speed r ange or accelera-
tor pedal is depressed too much)
may be displayed. Drive the vehicle
for a while before attempting to turn
on the EV drive mode again.
WARNING
■Caution while driving
When driving in EV drive mode,
pay special attention to the area
around the vehicle. Because
there is no engine noise, pedestri-
ans, people riding bicycles or
other people and vehicles in the
area may not be aware of the
vehicle starting off or approaching
them, so take extra care while
driving. Therefore, take extra care
while driving even if the acoustic
vehicle alerting system is active.

WARNING
■When driving on slippery
road surfaces
Be careful of downshifting and
sudden acceleration, as this could
result in the vehicle skidding to
the side or spinning.
NOTICE
■Hybrid battery (traction bat-
tery) charge
If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid
battery (traction battery) will not
be charged even when the engine
is running. Therefore, if the vehi-
cle is left with the shift lever in N
for a long period of time, the
hybrid battery (traction battery)
will discharge, and this may result
in the vehicle not being able to
start.

■Headlight control sensor
The sensor may not function prop-
erly if an object is placed on the sen-
sor, or anything that blocks the
sensor is affixed to the windshield.
Doing so interfere s with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light
and may cause the automatic head-
light system to malfunction.
■Automatic light off system
●When the headlights are on: The
headlights and tail lights turn off
30 seconds after a door is opened
and closed if the power switch is
turned to ACC or OFF. (The lights
turn off immediately if on the
key is pressed afte r all the doors
are closed.)
●When only the tail lights are on:
The tail lights tu rn off automati-
cally if the power switch is turned
to ACC or OFF an d the driver’s
door is opened.
Except for Canada: To turn the lights
on again, turn the power switch to
ON, or turn the light switch off once
and then back to or .
For Canada: To tu rn the lights on
again, turn the power switch to ON,
or turn the light s witch to once
and then back to or .
■Automatic headlight leveling
system (if equipped)
The level of the headlights is auto-
matically adjusted according to the
number of passengers and the load-
ing condition of the vehicle to
ensure that the headlights do not interfere with o
ther road users.
■Light reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds when the power
switch is turned off or turned to ACC
and the driver’s door is opened
while the lights are turned on.
■Welcome lighting
The parking lights and tail lights
automatically turn on at night when
the doors are un locked using the
entry function or wireless remote
control if the light switch is in the
position.
■Windshield wiper linked head-
light illumination
When driving during daytime with
the headlight switch turned to , if
the windshield wipers are used, the
headlights will turn o n automatically
after several se conds to help
enhance the visibility of your vehi-
cle.
■12-volt battery-saving function
In order to prevent the 12-volt bat-
tery of the vehicle from discharging,
if the headlights and/or tail lights are
on when the power switch is turned
off the 12-volt battery-saving func-
tion will operate and automatically
turn off all the lig hts after approxi-
mately 20 minutes. When the power
switch is turned to ON, the 12-volt
battery-saving function will be dis-
abled.
When any of the following are per-
formed, the 12-volt battery-saving
function is canceled once and then
reactivated. All the lights will turn off
automatically 20 mi nutes after the
12-volt battery-saving function has
been reactivated:
●When the headlight switch is oper-
ated
●When a door is opened or closed

turn on the high beams.
Pull the lever toward you to the
center position to turn the high
beams off.

You can flash the high beams with
the headlights on or off.
AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting
System) secures excellent visi-
bility at intersections and on
curves by automatically adjust-
ing the direction of the light axis
of the headlights according to
vehicle speed and the degree of the tire’s angle as controlled by
steering input.
AFS operates at speeds of 6 mph
(10 km/h) or higher.

Some functions can be customized.

■Changing the pre-collision
warning timing
The pre-collision warning timing
can be changed on ( P.97,
107) of the multi-information dis-
play.
The warning timing setting is
retained when the power switch is
turned OFF. However, if the pre-col-
lision system is disabled and
re-enabled, the operation timing will
return to the default setting (mid-
dle).
If the pre-collision warning tim-
ing is changed, emergency steering assist timing will also
be changed accordingly. If late
is selected, emergency steering
assist would not operate in case
of an emergency.

■Operational conditions for e ach pre-collision function
The pre-collision syst em is enabled and the system determines t hat the pos-
sibility of a frontal c ollision with a detected object is high.
The system may not operate in the following situations:
• If a 12-volt battery terminal has been di sconnected and reconn ected and
then the vehicle has not been dr iven for a certain amount of time
• If the shift lever is in R
The operation speeds and operati on cancellation for each function is listed
below.

when

mation display
●Water may be continuously flow-
ing over the sensor surface, such
as in a heavy rain. When the sys-
tem determines that it is normal,
the system will return to normal.
●Initialization may not have been
performed after a battery terminal
was disconnected and recon-
nected. Initialize the system.

ues to be displayed even after ini-
tialization, have the vehicle
inspected by you r Toyota dealer.
■If “Parking Assist Unavailable
Clean Parking Assist Sensor” is
displayed on the multi-informa-
tion display
A sensor may be covered with ice,
snow, dirt, etc. Remove the ice,
snow, dirt, etc., from the sensor to
return the system to normal.
Also, due to ice forming on a sensor
at low temperatures, a warning
message may be displayed or the
sensor may not be able to detect an
object. Once the ice melts, the sys-
tem will return to normal.
■If a 12-volt battery terminal has
been disconnected and recon-
nected
The system needs to be initialized.
To initialize the system, drive the
vehicle straight ahead for 5 seconds
or more at a speed of approximately
22 mph (35 km/h) or more.
■Sensor detection information
●The following situations may occur
during use.
• The sensor's detec tion areas are
limited to the areas around the
vehicle front and rear bumpers.
• Depending on the shape of the object and other factors, the
detection distance may shorten, or
detection may be impossible.
• If an object is extremely close to a sensor, it may not be detected.
• There will be a short delay between object detection and dis-
play. Even at low speeds, there is
a possibility that the object will
come within the sensor’s detec-
tion areas before the display is
shown and the warning beep
sounds.
• It might be diffic ult to hear the
buzzer due to the volume of the
audio system or air flow noise of
the air conditioning system.
• It may be diffi cult to hear the
buzzer if buzzers for other sys-
tems are sounding.
■Conditions under which the
function may not function cor-
rectly
Certain vehicle conditions and the
surrounding environment may affect
the ability of a sensor to correctly
detect objects. Part icular instances
where this may occur are listed
below.
●There is dirt, snow or ice on a sen-
sor. (Cleaning the sensors will
resolve this problem.)
●A sensor is froz en. (Thawing the
area will resolve this problem.)
In especially cold weather, if a
sensor is frozen the sensor dis-

may cause a sens or to malfunc-

■If the Parking Support Brake
has operated
If the vehicle is stopped due to oper-
ation of the Parki ng Support Brake,
the Parking Suppor t Brake will be
disabled and the PKSB OFF indica-
tor will illuminate. If the Parking Sup-
port Brake operates unnecessarily,
brake control can be canceled by
depressing the brake pedal or wait-
ing for approximately 2 seconds for
it to automatically be canceled.
Then, the vehicle can be operated
by depressing the accelerator pedal.
■Re-enabling the Parking Sup-
port Brake
To re-enable the Parking Support
Brake when it has been disabled
due to system operation perform
any of the following operations.
At this time, the PKSB OFF indicator
will turn off. ( P. 8 6 )
●Turn the PKSB (Parking Support
Brake) on ( P.306)
●The shift lever is in P.
●Drive with no opera tion targets in
the traveling direction of the vehi-
cle
●Change the traveling direction of
the vehicle
■If “PKSB Unavailable” is dis-
played on the multi-information
display and the PKSB OFF indi-
cator is flashing
●If this message is displayed only
when the shift lever is in any posi-
tion other than R, a sensor on the
front or rear bumper may be dirty.
Clean the sensors and their sur-
rounding area on the bumpers.
●Initialization may not have been
performed after a 12-volt battery
terminal was disconnected and
reconnected. Initialize the sys-
tem. ( P.311)
If this message continues to be
displayed even afte r initialization,
have the vehicle inspected by
your Toyota dealer.
■If “PKSB Unavailable” and
“Parking Support Brake
Unavailable Remo ve the Dirt of
Rear Camera” is displayed on
the multi-information display
and the PKSB OFF indicator is
flashing
●A sensor may be covered with ice,
snow, dirt, etc. Remove the ice,
snow, dirt, etc., from the sensor to
return the system to normal.
If this message i s shown even
after removing d irt from the sen-
sor, or shown when the sensor
was not dirty to begin with, have
