te r. Ifth e speed of theve hicle in front or the
speed adjustment forth ero ute event ahead is
less than the stored speed, the segments in the
speedome ter light up. The Instrument Display
sho ws th e deactivation of Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC, as well as alterations tothe speed
due tomanual or automatic adoption of the maxi-
mum permissible speed.

R In sno w,rain, fog, heavy spr ay, if there is glare,
in direct sunlight or in greatly varying light
conditions.
R Ifth ere is swirling dust, e.g. when driving o.-
ro ad or on sandy sur faces. R
The windscreen in the area of the camera is
dirty, misted up, damaged or co vered.
R Ifth era dar sensors are dirty or co vered.
R In multi-s tore y car par ksor on roads with
steep uphill or downhill gradients.
R Ifth ere are nar row vehicles in front, such as
bicycles or mo torc yc les.
In addition, on slippery roads, braking or acceler-
ating can cause one or se veral wheels tolose
traction and theve hicle could then skid.
Do not use Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC in

ve hicle with up to50% of the possible deceler-
ation. If this deceleration is not su1cient,
Ac tive Distance Assist DISTRONIC alerts you
with a visual and acoustic warning. #
Adjust your speed and maintain a suita-
ble distance from theve hicle in front. Driving and parking

The driver is responsible forch oosing theright
speed and observing other road users. This
applies in particular tojunctions, roundabouts and
tra1c lights, as route-based speed adap tation
does not brake theve hicle toa standstill.
When route guidance is active, the /rst speed
adjustment is car ried out automaticall y.Ifth e turn
signal indicator is switched on, the selected route is con/rmed and fur
ther speed adjustment is acti-
va ted.
Speed adap tation is cancelled in thefo llowing
cases:

of wa yre gulations into account. The driver is
re sponsible for complying with road tra1c regula-
tions and driving at a suitable speed.

steered theve hicle for a considerable period of
time or has remo vedth eir hands from the steering
wheel, display 1appears. If the driver still does
not steer theve hicle, a warning tone sounds in
addition tothe visual warning message.

emer gency stop (/ page 221).

Ac tive Steering Assist has a limited steering tor-
qu efo r lateral guidance. In some cases, the steer-
ing inter vention is not su1cient tokeep theve hi-
cle in the lane or todrive thro ugh exits.
The system may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing instances:
R There is poor visibility, e.g. due tosno w,rain,
fo g, heavy spr ay,gr eatly varying light condi-
tions or strong shadow s onthe car riag ewa y.
R There is glare, e.g. from oncoming tra1c,
di re ct sunlight or re0ections.
R Insu1cient road illumination. R
The windscreen is dirty, mis ted up, damaged
or co vered in the vicinity of the camera, e.g.
by a stic ker.
R No, or se veral, unclear lane markings are pres-
ent for one lane, or the markings change
qu ickl y,forex ample, in a construction area or
junctions.
R The lane markings are wornawa y,dark or co v-
ered up, e.g. bydirt or sno w.
R Ifth e distance totheve hicle in front is too
short and thus the lane markings cannot be
de tected.
R The road is nar row and winding.
R There are obs tacles on the lane or projecting
out into the lane, such as object mar kers.
The system does not pr ovide assistance in thefo l-
lowing conditions:
R On tight bends and when turning.
R When crossing junctions.
R Atroundabouts or toll stations.
R When towing a trailer.

fo rm of slight, repeated tensioning of the seat
belt.
If yo u do not react tothewa rning, autonomous
braking can be initiated in critical situations.
In especially critical situations, Active Brake Assist
can initiate autonomous braking directl y.In this
case, thewa rning lamp and warning tone occur
simultaneously with the braking application.
If yo u apply the brake yourself in a critical situa-
tion or apply the brake during autonomous brak-
ing, situation-dependent braking assistance
occurs. The brake pressure increases up tomaxi-
mum full-s top braking if necessar y.
