If yo u open the bonnet in theev ent of an over-
heated engine or /re in the engine compart-
ment, thefo llowing situations may occur:
R You may come into contact with hot gases.
R You may come into contact with other
escaping hot operating 0uids. #
Before opening the bonnet, allow the
engine tocool down. #
Intheev ent of a /re in the engine com-
partment, keep the bonnet closed and
call the /re service. &

The ignition system and the fuel injection sys-
te m operate at high voltage. You could receive
an elect ric shoc k. #

30 minutes' driving.

indicating the oil le vel on the inst rument dis-
play is green and is between "min" and "max":
th e oil le vel is cor rect.
R Engine oil level Add 1,0 l andthe bar display
fo r indicating the oil le vel on the inst rument
display is orange and is below "min": #
Add 1 l of engine oil.
R Reduce engine oil level andthe bar display for
indicating the oil le vel on the inst rument dis-
play is orange and is abo ve"max": #
Drain o. any excess engine oil that has been
added. Todo so, consult a quali/ed specialist
wo rkshop.
R For engine oil level turn on ignition #
Switch on theve hicle tocheck the engine oil
le ve l.
R Engine oil level System inoperative: The oil
le ve l sensor is defective or not connected. #
Consult a quali/ed specialist workshop.
R Engine oil level System currently unavail. #

following compatibility indications for fuel

For petrol with maximum 5% ethanol byvol-
ume
2 For petrol with maximum 10% ethanol byvol-

cording toEuropean standard EN 16942 you
can /nd the compatibility indications at thefo l-
lowing locations:
R Ontheve hicle on the information label on the
fuel /ller 0ap (/ page 171)
R Onthe fuel dispenser or pump nozzle suitable
fo ryo ur vehicle thro ughout Europe
If th eav ailable fuel is not su1ciently low in sul-
phur, this can produce unpleasant odours.
The recommended octane number foryo ur vehi-
cle can be found on the information label in the
fuel /ller 0ap (/ page 171).
E 350, E 450 4MA
E 350, E 450 4MA TIC:
TIC: only refuel using super
unleaded petrol wi that least 98 RON if you wish
to achie vemaximum engine output. Alternativel y,
yo u can also refuel using premium-g rade unlea-
ded petrol with at least 95 RON.
All models: All models: as atemp orary measure, if there com-
mended fuel is not available, you may also refuel
wi th regular unleaded petrol with an octane num-
ber of at least 91 RON.This may reduce engine
output and increase fuel consumption.

Only add cleaning additives recommen-
ded byMercedes-Benz tothe fuel. Mercedes-Benz
recommends that you use brand-
name fuels with additives.
In some countries, the fuel available may not ha ve
su1cient additives. Residue could build up in the
fuel injection system as a result. In this case, in
consultation with a Mercedes-Benz service
centre, mix the fuel with the cleaning additive rec-
