higher than normal. Take care wh en overhead height is limited.
■To avoid damage to the vehicle
●Normal mode will be switched to automatically even if the vehicle is started off in low
mode. Take care when overhead height is limited.
●Do not select the low mode when driving on bumpy roads, as the underbody of the
vehicle may contact the road surface.
●When traveling on bumpy roads or throug h water, or when towing, turn off easy
access mode.
■Avoid rapid changes to the vehicle height

A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In the following situations,
oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be refilled in between oil
maintenance intervals.
●When the engine is new, for example directly after purchasing the vehicle or after
replacing the engine
●If low quality oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used
●When driving at high engine speeds or with a heavy load, when towing, or when driving
while accelerating or decelerating frequently

Maintenance and care
Your Lexus is equipped with a tire pressure warning system that uses tire pres-
sure warning valves and transmitters to detect low tire inflation pressure before
serious problems arise.
●If the tire pressure drops below a predet ermined level, the driver is warned by
a screen display and a warning light. ( P. 526)
●The tire pressure detected by the
tire pressure warning system can be
displayed on the multi-information
display. ( P. 96)
◆Installing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
When replacing tires or wheels, tire pr essure warning valves and transmitters
must also be installed.
When new tire pressure wa rning valves and transmitters are installed, new ID
codes must be registered in the tire pressure warning computer and the tire
pressure warning system must be initia lized. Have tire pressure warning valve
and transmitter ID codes registered by your Lexus dealer. ( P. 492)
◆Initializing the tire pressure warning system
■The tire pressure warning system must be initialized in the following circum-
stances:
●When rotating the tires in above situation.
●When the set tire pressure has been changed before towing. ( P. 569)
When the tire pressure warning system is initialized, the current tire inflation
pressure is set as the benchmark pressure.

When trouble arises
7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If your vehicle needs to be towed
If towing is necessary, we recommend having your vehicle towed by your
Lexus dealer or commercial towing se rvice, using a wheel-lift type truck or
flatbed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all state/provincial and
local laws.
If towing your vehicle with a wheel-lift type truck, use a towing dolly.
( P. 519, 517)
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■When towing the vehicle
■While towing
●When towing using cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive
stress on the towing hooks, cables or chai ns. The towing hooks, cables or chains may
become damaged, broken debris may hit people and cause serious damage.
●Make sure to disable all functions of the vehicle height control of the electronically
modulated air suspension. Otherwise, the vehicle height may change and part of
your body may be caught under the vehicle, possibly causing injury. ( P. 305)
●Do not turn the engine switch off.
There is a possibility that the steering wheel is locked and cannot be operated.
Be sure to transport the vehicle with all four
wheels raised off the ground. If the vehicle is
towed with the tires contacting the ground, the
drivetrain or related parts may be damaged,
the vehicle may fly off the truck.

The following may indicate a problem with your transmission. Contact your
Lexus dealer or commercial to wing service before towing.
●The engine is running but the vehicle does not move.
●The vehicle makes an abnormal sound.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type truck
●Do not tow the vehicle from the rear when the engine switch is off. The steering lock
mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front wheels straight.
●When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground cleara nce for towing at the oppo-
site end of the raised vehicle. Without ad equate clearance, the vehicle could be dam-
aged while being towed.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle wh en towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.
■To prevent damage to the ve hicle during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the suspension components.
■Recreational towing (behind motor home, etc.)
Situations when it is necessary to contact dealers before towing
Never dinghy tow your vehicle to prevent caus-
ing serious damage to the four-wheel drive sys-
tem and transmission. ( P. 210)

If your vehicle is transported by a flat-
bed truck, it should be tied down at the
locations shown in the illustration.
If you use chains or cables to tie down
your vehicle, the angles shaded in black
must be 45.
If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be temporarily
towed using cables or chains secured to the emergency towing hooks. This\
should only be attempted on hard su rfaced roads for at most 50 miles (80 km)
at under 18 mph (30 km/h).
A driver must be in the vehicle to st eer and operate the brakes. The vehicle’s
wheels, drive train, axles, steering an d brakes must be in good condition.
Using a flatbed truck
NOTICE
■Using a flatbed truck
●Do not overly tighten the tie downs or the vehicle may be damaged.
●Make sure to disable all functions of the vehicle height control of the electronically
modulated air suspension. Otherwise, the vehicle height may change and the vehicle
may be damaged. ( P. 305)
