Engine coolant temperature
gauge
This gauge shows the temperature
of the engine coolant when the igni-
tion switch or ENGINE START/STOP
button is ON.
If the gauge pointer moves beyond
the normal range area toward the “H”
position, it indicates overheating that
may damage the engine.
Do not continue driving with an over-
heated engine. If your vehicle over-
heats, refer to “If the engine over-
heats” in chapter 6.
Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge indicates the approx-
imate amount of fuel remaining in the

WARNING - Hot radiator
Never remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. The
engine coolant is under pres-
sure and could cause severe
burns. Wait until the engine is
cool before adding coolant to
the reservoir.

Wiper mode (if equipped)
This indicator displays which wiper
speed is selected using the wiper
control.
You can activate or deactivate
Wiper/Lights Display function from
the User Settings mode in the cluster
LCD display.
Engine Overheated
This warning message illuminates
when the engine coolant tempera-
ture is above 248°F (120°C). This
means that the engine is overheated
and may be damaged.
If your vehicle is overheated, refer to
“Overheating” in chapter 6.
Shift to P (for smart key system
and Intelligent VariableTransmission)
This warning message illuminates if you try to turn off the engine with-
out the shift lever in P (Park) posi-
tion.
At this time, the ENGINE START/STOP button turns to the
ACC position (If you press the
ENGINE START/STOP button
once more, it will turn to the ON
position).
Low key battery (for smart key
system)
This warning message illuminates if the battery of the smart key is
discharged when the ENGINE
START/STOP button changes to
the OFF position.
Press brake pedal to start engine
(for smart key system andIntelligent Variable Transmission)
This warning message illuminates if the ENGINE START/STOP but-
ton changes to the ACC position
twice by pressing the button
repeatedly without depressing the
brake pedal.

If the warning light stays on while the
engine is running, there may be seri-
ous engine damage. In this case,
1. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is
safe to do so.
2. Turn off the engine and check the oil level. If the oil level is low, fill the
engine oil to the proper level.
3. Start the engine again. If the warn- ing light stays on after the engine
is started, turn the engine off
immediately. In this case, have
your vehicle inspected by an

Low Tire PressureWarning Light
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button to
the ON position.
- It illuminates for approximately 3seconds and then goes off.
When one or more of your tires are significantly underinflated.
❈ For more details, refer to “Tire
Pressure Monitoring System
(TPMS)” in chapter 6. This warning light remains on after
blinking for approximately 70 seconds
or repeats blinking on and off at inter-
vals of approximately 3 seconds:
When there is a malfunction with
the TPMS.
In this case, have your vehicle
inspected by an authorized Kia
dealer as soon as possible.
❈ For more details, refer to “Tire
Pressure Monitoring System
(TPMS)” in chapter 6.
The TPMS cannot alert you to severe
and sudden tire damage caused by
external factors.
If you notice any vehicle instability,
immediately take your foot off the
accelerator pedal, apply the brakes
gradually with light force, and slowly
move to a safe position off the road.
WARNING
- Low tire pressure
Significantly low tire pressure makes the vehicle unstable
and can contribute to loss of
vehicle control and increased
braking distances.
Continued driving on tires with low tire pressure can cause the
tires to overheat and fail, which
may cause an accident.

Air conditioning
Kia Air Conditioning Systems are
filled with R-1234yf refrigerant.
1. Start the engine. Push the air con-
ditioning button.
2. Set the mode to the position.
3. Set the air intake control to the recirculated air position. However,
prolonged operation in the recircu-
lated air position will excessively
dry the air. In this case, change the
air position.
4. Adjust the fan speed control and temperature control to maintain
maximum comfort.
The refrigerant system should only be serviced by trained and certified
technicians to ensure proper and
safe operation.
The refrigerant system should be serviced in a well-ventilated place.
The air conditioning evaporator (cooling coil) shall never be
repaired or replaced with one
removed from a used or salvaged
vehicle and new replacement MAC
evaporators should be certified
(and labeled) as meeting SAE
Standard J2842.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
When opening the windows in humid
weather, air conditioning may create
water droplets inside the vehicle.
Since excessive water droplets may
cause damage to electrical equip-
ment, air conditioning should only be
used with the windows closed.
Air conditioning system operation tips
If the vehicle has been parked in
direct sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time
to let the hot air inside the vehicle
escape.
To help reduce moisture inside of the windows on rainy or humid
days, decrease the humidity inside
the vehicle by operating the air
conditioning system.
During air conditioning system operation, you may occasionally
notice a slight change in engine
speed as the air conditioning com-
pressor cycles. This is a normal
system operation characteristic.
Use the air conditioning system every month for a few minutes to
ensure maximum system perform-
ance.
When using the air conditioning system, you may notice clear water
dripping (or even puddling) on the
ground under the passenger side
of the vehicle. This is a normal
operating characteristic of the sys-
tem.CAUTION - Excessive A/C
While using the air conditioningsystem, monitor the tempera-ture gauge closely while drivingup hills or in heavy traffic whenoutside temperatures are high.Air conditioning system opera-tion may cause engine over-heating and potential enginedamage. Continue to use theblower fan but turn the air con-ditioning system off if the tem-perature gauge indicates engineoverheating.

tem.
If you operate air conditioner excessively, the difference between
the temperature of the outside air
and that of the windshield could
cause the outer surface of the
windshield to fog up, causing loss
of visibility. In this case, set the
mode selection knob or button to
the position and fan speed
control to the lower speed.CAUTION
When using the air condition- ing system, monitor the tem-perature gauge closely whiledriving up hills or in heavy traf-fic when outside temperaturesare high. Air conditioning sys-tem operation may causeengine overheating. Continueto use the blower fan but turnthe air conditioning system offif the temperature gauge indi-cates engine overheating.

When you intend to park or stop

accelerator pedal for a long
period of time. It may overheat
the engine or exhaust system

Securely store items in your
vehicle. When you make a sud-
den stop or turn the steering
wheel rapidly, loose objects
may drop on the floor and could
interfere with the operation of
the foot pedals, possibly caus-
ing an accident.WARNING- Driving while intoxicated
Do not drive while intoxicated.
Drinking and driving is danger-
ous. Even a small amount of
alcohol will affect your reflexes,
perceptions and judgment.
Driving while under the influ-
ence of drugs is as dangerous
as or more dangerous than driv-
ing drunk.
WARNING- Proper footwear
Always wear appropriate shoes
when operating your vehicle.
Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski
boots, sandals, etc.) may inter-
fere with your ability to use the
brake and accelerator pedals.

Good driving practices
Never take the vehicle out of gear
and coast down a hill. This is
extremely hazardous. Always leave
the vehicle in gear.
Don't "ride" the brakes. This can cause them to overheat and mal-
function. Instead, when you are
driving down a long hill, shift to a
lower gear. When you do this,
engine braking will help slow down
the vehicle.
Slow down before shifting to a lower gear. This will help avoid
over-revving the engine, which can
cause damage.
Slow down when you encounter cross winds. This gives you much
better control of your vehicle.
Be sure the vehicle is completely stopped before you attempt to shift
into R (Reverse). The transmission
can be damaged if you do not.WARNING
Exercise extreme cautionwhen driving on a slippery
surface. Be especially careful
when braking, accelerating or
shifting gears. On a slippery
surface, an abrupt change in
vehicle speed can cause the
drive wheels to lose traction
and the vehicle to lose con-
trol.
Always buckle-up! In a colli- sion, an unbelted occupant is
significantly more likely to be
seriously injured or killed
than a properly belted occu-
pant.
Never exceed posted speed limits.
Avoid high speeds when cor- nering or turning. High speed
cornering and turning
increases the risk of vehicle
rollover due to loss of vehicle
control. Rollover accidents
are extremely violent and
unpredictable.
