{Warning
Leaving children in a vehicle with the
ignition key is dangerous and children or
others could be seriously injured or killed.
They could operate the power windows
or other controls or make the vehicle
move. The windows will function with
the keys in the ignition, and children or
others could be caught in the path of a
closing window. Do not leave children in
a vehicle with the ignition key.

124 Climate Controls
Do not drive the vehicle until all windows
are clear.
In defrost or defog mode, excessive air
conditioning use can cause the windows to
fog. If this happens, change the air delivery
mode to
Yand reduce the fan speed.
#:If equipped with air conditioning,
follow these steps to use the system. Turn
Ato the desired speed. The air
conditioning does not operate when the fan
control knob is in the off position. Press
#
to turn the air conditioning on and off.
When
#is pressed, an indicator light
comes on to show that the air conditioning
is on.
For quick cool down on hot days:
1. Open the windows to let hot air escape.
2. Press
M.
3. Press
#.
4. Select the coolest temperature.
5. Select the highest
Aspeed.
Using these settings together for long
periods of time may cause the air inside the
vehicle to become too dry. To prevent this
from happening, after the air in the vehicle
has cooled, turn the recirculation mode off.
M: This mode recirculates and helps to
quickly cool the air inside the vehicle. It can
be used to prevent outside air and odors
from entering the vehicle.
Press the button to turn the recirculation
mode on. An indicator light comes on to
show that the recirculation is on. Press the
button again to return to outside air mode.
Using the recirculation mode for extended
periods may cause the windows to fog.
If this happens, select the defrost mode.
Max
#is available when the air
conditioning is selected and the temperature
is set to the coolest setting while the
outside air temperature is warm. When Max
#is activated, the air inside the vehicle is
automatically recirculated, which helps to
quickly cool the vehicle. The recirculation
indicator will not be lit.
To allow outside air to enter in these
conditions, press the recirculation button
twice. The recirculation indicator will not
be lit.
MorL: If equipped, press to heat the
driver or passenger seat. See Heated Front
Seats 033.
Rear Window and Outside Mirror
Defogger
1:Press to turn the rear window and
outside mirror defogger on or off. An
indicator light comes on to show that the
feature is on.
The rear window defogger turns off after
about 15 minutes. It can also be turned off
by pressing
1again or by turning the
ignition off or to ACC/ACCESSORY. If turned
on again it runs for about five minutes
before turning off.
Do not drive the vehicle until all the
windows are clear.
If equipped with heated outside mirrors,
they turn on with the rear window defogger
and help to clear fog or frost from the
surface of the mirror. See Heated Mirrors
0 25.
Caution
Using a razor blade or sharp object on
the inside rear window can damage the
antenna or defogger. Repairs would not
be covered by the vehicle warranty. Do
not stick anything to the rear window.

158 Driving and Operating
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
On vehicles with RCTA, a triangle with an
arrow may display on the infotainment
display to warn of traffic coming from either
direction. This system detects objects
coming from up to 20 m (65 ft) from the left
or right side, behind the vehicle. When an
object is detected, three beeps sound from
the left or right side, depending on the
direction of the detected vehicle.
The Park Assist and RCTA symbols appear
and may cover an object when viewing the
infotainment display when an object is
detected by the RPA or RCTA system. To
turn the symbols on or off, seeVehicle
Personalization 093.
RCTA can be turned on or off through
vehicle personalization. See “Collision
Detection Systems” underVehicle
Personalization 093.
Park Assist
If equipped, Rear Park Assist (RPA) system, it
assists you with parking and avoiding
objects while in R (Reverse). RPA operates at
speeds less than 8 km/h (5 mph), and the
sensors on the rear bumper detect objects
up to 1.5 m (5 ft) behind the vehicle, and at least 30 cm (12 in) off the ground. The
distance objects can be detected may be
less during warmer or humid weather.
{Warning
The Park Assist system does not detect
children, pedestrians, bicyclists, animals,
or objects below the bumper or that are
too close or too far from the vehicle. It is
not available at speeds greater than
8 km/h (5 mph). To prevent injury, death,
or vehicle damage, even with Park Assist,
always check the area around the vehicle
and check all mirrors before backing.
How the System Works
RPA comes on automatically when the shift
lever is moved into R (Reverse).
An obstacle is indicated by audible beeps.
The interval between the beeps becomes
shorter as the vehicle gets closer to the
obstacle. When the distance is less than
30 cm (12 in) the beeping is a continuous
tone for five seconds.
Turning the System On and Off
The RPA system can be turned on and off
using the infotainment system controls. See
Vehicle Personalization
093.
When the System Does Not Seem to
Work Properly
This light may come on for the following
reasons:
.The sensors are not clean. Keep the
vehicle's rear bumper free of mud, dirt,
snow, ice, and slush. For cleaning
instructions, see Exterior Care0226.
.The Park Assist sensors are covered by
frost or ice. Frost or ice can form around
and behind the sensors and may not
always be seen; this can occur after
washing the vehicle in cold weather. The
light may not clear until the frost or ice
has melted.
