This indicator light comes on when the transmis-
sion is in the reverse position.EBU29924Coolant temperature warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the engine
overheats. When this occurs, stop the engine as
soon as it is safe to do so and allow it to cool for
10 minutes.
The electrical circuit of the warning light can be
checked by turning the key to “ ” (on). The
warning light should come on for a few seconds,
and then go off.
If the warning light does not come on initially when
the key is turned to “ ” (on), or if the warning
light remains on, have a Yamaha dealer check the
vehicle.TIPThe radiator fan is automatically switched on or
off according to the coolant temperature in the
radiator.
 If the engine overheats, see page 9-57 for fur-
ther instructions.
NOTICEECB00011The engine may overheat if the ATV is over-
loaded. In this case, reduce the load to spec-
ification.
 Start the engine after making sure that the
warning light is out. Continuous use while
the warning light is on may cause damage to
the engine. EBU29933Fuel level warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the fuel level
drops below approximately 2.9 L (0.77 US gal,
0.64 Imp.gal). When this occurs, refuel as soon as
possible.
The electrical circuit of the warning light can be
checked by setting the engine stop switch to “ ”
and turning the key to “ ” (on). The warning light
should come on for a few seconds, and then go
off.
If the warning light does not come on initially when
the key is turned to “ ” (on), or if the warning
light remains on, have a Yamaha dealer check the
electrical circuit.

follow the inspection and maintenance procedures and schedules described in the Owner’s Manual.

ment damage. Do not operate the vehicle if you find any problem. If a problem cannot be corrected
by the procedures provided in this manual, have the vehicle inspected by a Yamaha dealer. Before using this vehicle, check the following points:

Check that there is no free play in the brake le-
ver. If there is free play, have a Yamaha dealer
check the brake system. 
Check for correct brake pedal height. (See page
9-35.) If the pedal height is incorrect, have a
Yamaha dealer adjust it.
 Check the operation of the lever and pedal.
They should move smoothly and there should
be a firm feeling when the brakes are applied. If
not, have a Yamaha dealer check the brake sys-
tem.
Brake fluid level
Check the brake fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.
(See page 9-31.)
Brake fluid leakage
Check to see if any brake fluid is leaking out of the
pipe joints or brake fluid reservoirs. Apply the
brakes firmly for one minute. If there is any leak-
age, have a Yamaha dealer check the brake sys-

The transmission is in neutral.
 The clutch is disengaged with the transmission
in gear. However, it is recommended to shift
into neutral before starting the engine. 4. Completely close the throttle lever and start

a higher quality than specified. In addition,
do not use oils labeled “ENERGY CONSERV-
ING II” or higher.
 Make sure that no foreign material enters the
crankcase.
17. Start the engine, and then let it idle for several
minutes while checking it for oil leakage. If oil
is leaking, immediately turn the engine off and
check for the cause.
