display
This display indicates which traction
control system setting has been se-
lected: “1”, “2” or “OFF”. For more de-
tails on the TCS settings and on how to
select them, see page 3-22. Information
display
There are 3 information displays. Push
the select switch “ / ” to change
the selected information display.
The following items are shown in the
information displays: odometer
two tripmeters
fuel reserve tripmeter
elapsed time
air temperature
coolant temperature
average fuel consumption
instantaneous fuel consumption
TIPYou can select which items are shown
in each information display. See Set-
ting mode on page 3-12.Odometer an d tripmeters
The odometer shows the total distance
traveled by the vehicle.
The tripmeters “TRIP-1” and “TRIP-2”
show the distance traveled since they
were last set.
To reset a tripmeter, use the select
switch to display the tripmeter you
want to reset. Then push the “RESET”

3 Coolant temperature
This shows the temperature of the
coolant. The coolant temperature var-
ies with changes in the weather and
engine load.
If the message “Hi” flashes, stop the
vehicle then stop the engine and let it
cool. (See page 6-37.)
TIPThe selected information display can-
not be switched while the message
“Hi” is flashing.
NOTICE

Do not continue to operate the en-
g
ine if it is overheatin g.Averag e fuel consumption
This function calculates the average
fuel consumption (fuel economy) of the
vehicle since it was last reset. The av-
erage fuel consumption display can be
set to “km/L” or “L/100km”; or when
miles is selected “MPG” will be dis-
played. The “km/L” display shows the av-
erage distance that can be trav-
eled on 1.0 L of fuel.
The “L/100km” display shows the
average amount of fuel necessary
to travel 100 km.
The “MPG” display shows the av-
erage distance that can be trav-
eled on 1.0 Imp.gal of fuel. To reset the average fuel consumption
display, use the select switch to select
the information display that contains
the average fuel consumption display.
Push the “RESET” button briefly so
that the average fuel consumption dis-
play flashes, and then push the “RE-
SET” button again for 2 seconds while
the display is flashing.
TIPAfter resetting the average fuel con-
sumption display, “_ _._” will be shown
until the vehicle has traveled 1 km (0.6
mi).NOTICE

CoolantThe coolant level should be checked
regularly. In addition, the coolant must
be changed at the intervals specified in
the periodic maintenance chart.TIPIf genuine Yamaha coolant is not avail-
able, use an ethylene glycol antifreeze
containing corrosion inhibitors for alu-
minum engines and mix with distilled
water at a 1:1 ratio.
EAU20097
To check the coolant level
Since the coolant level varies with en-
gine temperature, check when the en-
gine is cold.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. 2. With the vehicle in an upright posi-
tion, look at the coolant level in the
reservoir.
3. If the coolant is at or below the minimum level mark, remove the
coolant reservoir cap. WARNING!
Remove only the coolant reser-
voir cap. Never attempt to re-
move the ra diator cap when the
en gine is hot.
[EWA15162]
4. Add coolant to the maximum level
mark. NOTICE: If coolant is not
availa ble, use d istilled water or
soft tap water instea d. Do not
use har d water or salt water
since it is harmful to the en gine.
If water has been used instead
of coolant, replace it with cool-
ant as soon as possi ble, other-
wise the coolin g system will not
b e protecte d a gainst frost an d
corrosion. If water has been
a dde d to the coolant, have a
Yamaha dealer check the anti-
freeze content of the coolant as
soon as possi ble, otherwise the
effectiveness of the coolant will
b e re duce d.
