For XP560D:
This model is equipped with adjustable
suspension. The spring preload and re-
bound damping force can be adjusted.
Sprin g preloa d
Turn the adjusting ring in direction (a)
to increase the spring preload.
Turn the adjusting ring in direction (b)
to decrease the spring preload.
 Align the appropriate notch in the
adjusting ring with the position in-
dicator on the shock absorber.
 Use the special wrench included
in the tool kit to make the adjust-

Turn the adjusting screw in direction (a)
to increase the rebound damping
force.
Turn the adjusting screw in direction (b)
to decrease the rebound damping
force.
To set the rebound damping force, turn
the adjuster in direction (a) until it
stops, and then count the turns in di-

lubrication will keep your vehicle in the
safest and most efficient condition
possible. Safety is an obligation of the
vehicle owner/operator. The most im-
portant points of vehicle inspection,
adjustment, and lubrication are ex-
plained on the following pages.
The intervals given in the periodic
maintenance charts should be simply
considered as a general guide under
normal riding conditions. However, de-
pending on the weather, terrain, geo-
graphical location, and individual use,
the maintenance intervals may need to
be shortened.

equipment. Maintenance, replace-
ment, or repair of the emission control
devices and systems may be per-
formed by any repair establishment or
individual that is certified (if applicable).
Yamaha dealers are trained and
equipped to perform these particular
services.

TIPAir filters
 The engine air filter uses a disposable oil-coated paper element. This element cannot be cleaned with compressed air,
doing so will only damage it.
 If you often ride in the rain or in dusty areas, have the engine air filter and V-belt air filter elements serviced more fre-
quently.
Hydraulic brake service  Regularly check the brake fluid levels in the reservoirs, and refill as necessary.
 Replace the internal components of the brake master cylinders and calipers, and change the brake fluid every 2 years.

then install and tighten the oil filler

component, and since valve clearance
changes with use, they must be
checked and adjusted at the intervals
specified in the periodic maintenance
chart. Unadjusted valves can result in
improper air-fuel mixture, engine
noise, and eventually engine damage.
To prevent this from occurring, have
your Yamaha dealer check and adjust
the valve clearance at regular intervals.TIPThis service must be performed when

Trou bleshootin gAlthough your Yamaha received a thor-
ough inspection before shipment from
the factory, trouble may occur during
operation. Any problem in the fuel,
compression, or ignition systems, for
example, can cause poor starting and
loss of power.
The following troubleshooting chart
represents a quick and easy procedure
for checking these vital systems your-
self. However, should your vehicle re-
quire any repair, take it to an
authorized Yamaha dealer whose
skilled technicians have the necessary
tools, experience, and know-how to
properly service your Yamaha vehicle.
Be sure to use only genuine Yamaha
replacement parts. Although imitation
parts may look similar to genuine parts,
they are often inferior in quality, have a
shorter service life, and can lead to an
expensive repair bill later on.

the smart key system does not work.  Is the smart key turned on? (See

 Is the smart key being used in a lo-
cation with strong radio waves or
other electromagnetic noise? (See
page 3-1.)
 Are you using the smart key that is
registered to the vehicle?
 Is the vehicle battery discharged?
When the vehicle battery is dis-
charged, the smart key system will
not operate. Please have the vehi-
cle battery charged or replaced.

after checking the above items, have a
Yamaha dealer check the smart key
system.
