Immo bilizer system
This vehicle is equipped with an immo-
bilizer system to help prevent theft by
re-registering codes in the standard
keys. This system consists of the fol-
lowing:
 a code re-registering key
 two standard keys
 a transponder (in each key)
 an immobilizer unit (on the vehicle)
 an ECU (on the vehicle)
 a system indicator light (page 3-5)
A bout the keys
The code re-registering key acts like a
master key. It is used to register codes
in each standard key. Store the code
re-registering key in a safe place. Use
a standard key for daily operation.
When key replacement or re-register-
ing is necessary, bring the vehicle and
the master key along with any remain-
ing standard keys to a Yamaha dealer
to have them re-registered.
TIP
 Keep the standard keys as well as
keys of other immobilizer systems
away from the code re-registering
key. 
Keep other immobilizer system
keys away from the main switch
as they may cause signal interfer-
ence.
NOTICE

DEALER IMMEDIATELY IF IT IS
LOST! If the co de re-re gisterin g key
is lost, the existin g stan dar d keys
can still be used to start the vehicle.
However, re gisterin g a new stan-
d ar d key is impossi ble. If all keys
have been lost or damag ed , the en-
tire immo bilizer system must be re-
placed . Therefore, han dle the keys
carefully.  Do not su bmerse in water.
 Do not expose to hi gh tempera-
tures.
 Do not place near mag nets.
 Do not place near items that
transmit electrical sig nals.
 Do not han dle rou ghly.
 Do not grin d or alter.
 Do not disassem ble.
 Do not put two keys of any im-
mo bilizer system on the same
key rin g.

To unlock the steering
From the “LOCK” position, push the
key and turn it to “OFF”.

all other electrical systems are off. The
key can be removed.
The steering must be locked before the

3 immobilizer system is enabled. After 24
hours have passed, the indicator light
will stop flashing, however the immobi-
lizer system is still enabled.
TIP
When the vehicle is turned on, this light
should come on for a few seconds and
then go off. If the light does not come
on, or if the light remains on, have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.
Transpon der interference
If the immobilizer system indicator light
flashes in the pattern, slowly 5 times
then quickly 2 times, this could be
caused by transponder interference. If
this occurs, try the following. 1. Make sure there are no other im- mobilizer keys close to the main
switch.
2. Use the code re-registering key to start the engine.
3. If the engine starts, turn it off, and try starting the engine with the
standard keys.
4. If one or both of the standard keys do not start the engine, take the
vehicle and all 3 keys to a Yamaha
dealer to have the standard keys
re-registered.

Cruise control system
This model is equipped with a cruise
control system designed to maintain a
set cruising speed.
The cruise control system operates
only when riding in 3rd gear at speeds
between about 50 km/h (31 mi/h) and
160 km/h (100 mi/h), 4th or 5th gear at
speeds between about 50 km/h (31
mi/h) and 180 km/h (112 mi/h), or 6th
gear at speeds between about 55 km/h
(34 mi/h) and 180 km/h (112 mi/h).

hill, the cruise control system
may not b e able to maintain the
set cruisin g speed .
 To prevent acci dentally activat-
in g the cruise control system,
turn it off when not in use. Make
sure that the cruise control sys-
tem ind icator light “ ” is off.

Replacin g the fuses
The fuse boxes and individual fuses
are located under panel A. (See page
6-7.)
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.1. Turn the key to “OFF” and turn off the electrical circuit in question.
