a flashing warning symbol will be displayed on the windshield.
NOTE

Switching target vehicles with driver support
At certain speeds, vehicles with automatic transmissions and the driver support func- tions Adaptive Cruise Control * and Pilot
Assist * can switch target vehicles.
Switching target vehicles
If the target vehicle ahead turns suddenly, there may be stationary traffic ahead.
When driver support is actively following another vehicle at speeds under 30 km/h
(20 mph) and switches targets from a movingvehicle to a stationary vehicle, driver supportwill brake for the stationary vehicle.

Automatic transmission
The driver support functions can follow another vehicle at speeds from a standstill upto 200 km/h (125 mph). Pilot Assist can provide steering assistance from near-stationary speeds up to 140 km/h(87 mph). The lowest speed that can be set is 30 km/h (20 mph). When following another vehicle,ACC can monitor that vehicle's speed andslow your own vehicle down to a standstill,but it is not possible to set speeds lower than30 km/h (20 mph).

Setting time interval to the vehicle ahead The time interval to the vehicle ahead can be set for the functions Adaptive Cruise Control *,
Pilot Assist * and Distance Alert *.
Different time intervals to the vehicle ahead can be selectedand are shown in the instru-ment panel as 1–5 horizontalbars. The more bars, thelonger the time interval. Onebar represents an interval of
approx. 1 second to the vehicle ahead. 5 barsrepresents approx. 3 seconds.
NOTE
When the symbol in the instrument panel shows a vehicle and a steering wheel, PilotAssist follows a vehicle ahead at a presettime interval. When only a steering wheel is shown, there is no vehicle ahead within a reasona-ble distance.
NOTE
When the symbol in the instrument panel shows two vehicles, ACC is following thevehicle ahead at a preset time interval. When only one vehicle is shown, there is no vehicle ahead within a reasonable dis-tance.

Park Assist front, rear and sides *
Park Assist behaves differently depending on which part of the vehicle is approaching anobstacle.
Front camera
The warning signal has a continuous tone when the obstacle is less than approx. 30 cm (1 ft) from thevehicle.
The Park Assist system's front sensors are automatically activated when the engine isstarted. They are active at speedsbelow 10 km/h (6 mph). The distance monitored extends approx. 80 cm (2.5 ft) in front of the vehicle.
NOTE
The Park Assist system is deactivated when the parking brake is used or when P
is selected on vehicles with automatictransmission.
CAUTION
When installing auxiliary lights: Make sure these do not obscure the sensors – theauxiliary lights could be perceived as anobstacle.

The warning signal has a continuous tone when the obstacle is less than approx. 30 cm (1 ft) from thevehicle.
The rear sensors will be activated if the vehicle begins rolling backward or if reverse gear isengaged. The distance monitored extends approx. 1.5 meters (5 ft) behind the vehicle. The Park Assist system's rear sensors will be automatically deactivated if the vehicle isbacking up with a trailer connected to thevehicle's electrical system.
NOTE
When reversing with e.g. a trailer or bike carrier on the trailer hitch – without Volvooriginal trailer cables – the Parking Assistsystem may have to be turned off manuallyto prevent the sensors from reacting tothese.

Charging the hybrid battery
In addition to the conventional fuel tank, your vehicle is also equipped with a rechargeablelithium-ion hybrid battery.

The hybrid battery can be recharged using the charging cable stored in a storage space in thecargo compartment.
WARNING
The hybrid electrical system in your vehicle uses high voltage electrical current. Anydamage to this system or to the hybrid bat-tery may result in the danger of overheat-ing, fire, or serious injury. If the vehicle isinvolved in a collision or subjected to flood-ing, fire, etc., have it inspected by a trainedand qualified Volvo service technician. Priorto this inspection, the vehicle should beparked outdoors at a safe distance fromany building or potentially flammable mate-rials.
The hybrid battery's charging time depends on the charging current used.
NOTE
The capacity of the hybrid battery dimin- ishes somewhat with age and use, whichcould result in increased use of the gaso-line engine and consequently, slightlyhigher fuel consumption.
WARNING
If the hybrid battery needs to be replaced, this may only be done by a Volvo retailer orauthorized Volvo workshop.

Charging status is indicated in three ways:
The indicator lights in the charging module (the unit connected to the wall outlet).
Indicator light in the vehicle's chargingsocket.

The start battery is charged while the hybridbattery is charging and stops charging whenthe hybrid battery is fully charged. If the hybrid battery's temperature is below -10 ºC (14 ºF) or above 40 ºC (104 ºF), some
of the vehicle's functions may be reduced ornot available at all. The electric motor cannot be used if the bat- tery's temperature is too low or too high. If thePURE drive mode is selected, the gasolineengine will start.
Charging using the gasoline engine
The vehicle generates electrical current to charge the battery, e.g. when the driver lightly presses the brakepedal or when engine braking is used on down-grades.
The vehicle can also generate current to the hybrid battery to charge it. The hybrid battery can also be recharged by lightly depressing the brake pedal, i.e.during light braking. This converts thevehicle's kinetic energy to electricalenergy, which is used to charge the hybridbattery.
In gear position
B, the electric motor
brakes the vehicle when the acceleratorpedal is released and the hybrid battery isrecharged at the same time.
The combustion engine can also helprecharge the hybrid battery.

CAUTION
When starting in cold weather, the automatic transmission may shift up atslightly higher engine speeds than nor-mal until the automatic transmissionfluid reaches normal operating tem-perature.
Do not race a cold engine immediatelyafter starting. This could prevent fluidsfrom properly lubricating vital compo-nents in the engine before it hasreached the proper operating tempera-ture.
The engine should be idling when thegear selector is moved. Never acceler-ate until the gear is fully engaged.Accelerating rapidly before a gear isproperly engaged could lead to harderwear of components.
To help prevent the transmission oilfrom overheating, select
P or N when
idling at a standstill for prolonged peri-ods of time.
NOTE
With a cold start, idling speed may be con- siderably higher than normal for certainengine types. This is done to get the emis-sions system up to normal operating tem-perature as quickly as possible, which min-imizes exhaust emissions and protects theenvironment.

Switching off the vehicle
The vehicle can be switched off using the start knob in the tunnel console.
Start knob in the tunnel console.
To switch off the vehicle:
–Turn the start knob clockwise and release to switch off the vehicle. The control willautomatically return to the original posi-tion.
If the vehicle rolls:
–Turn clockwise and hold the knob until the vehicle switches off.
