Available drive modes
WARNING
Keep in mind that the vehicle does not emit any engine noise when using the electricmotor and may therefore be difficult todetect for children, pedestrians, cyclists oranimals. This is particularly true at lowspeeds, e.g. in parking lots.
WARNING
Do not leave the vehicle in an unventilated area with a drive mode activated and thecombustion engine switched off. Theengine will start automatically if the chargelevel in the hybrid battery is low and theresulting exhaust gases can be very harm-ful to people and animals.
Hybrid
This is the default mode in which the elec- tric motor and combustion engine work together.
The vehicle starts in
Hybrid mode. The control
system uses both the electric motor and the gasoline engine – separately or in tandem –and adapts utilization with regard to perform-ance, fuel consumption and comfort. At highspeeds, ground clearance is automatically lowered 7
to reduce air resistance. Driving capacity on the electric motor alone is deter- mined by factors such as the hybrid battery'scharge level, the need for heat or cooling inthe passenger compartment, etc. If there is sufficient charge in the battery, it is possible to drive solely on electric power.When the accelerator pedal is pressed, onlythe electric motor will be activated until thebattery reaches a certain charge level. Abovethis level, the current in the battery cannotsupply the power requested by the acceleratorpedal and the combustion engine will start. When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, the combustion engine will start more fre-quently to save the remaining current in thebattery. Charge the hybrid battery from a120-240 volt outlet using a charging cable, or activate
Charge in Function view to reset the
option of only using the electric motor. This drive mode is designed for low energy consumption with a mix between the electricmotor and gasoline engine, without compro-mising on climate comfort or driving experi-ence. When faster acceleration is requestedby the driver, the electric driveline will be uti-lized to help provide maximum additionalpower. The vehicle also monitors the driving condi- tions and automatically engages all-wheeldrive if necessary. All-wheel drive and extra electric power are always available regardlessof the battery's charging status.
Information in the instrument panel
When driving in Hybrid mode, a hybrid gauge will be displayed in the instrument panel. Thegauge will indicate the amount of electricalcurrent required when the driver depressesthe accelerator pedal. The marker between thelightning and the drop shows how much cur-rent is available.

Pure
Uses the electric motor only, with the low- est possible energy consumption and car-bon dioxide emissions.
This drive mode prioritizes the use of the hybrid battery. Ground clearance is lowered 7
to reduce air resistance and certain climate system functions are reduced to provide thelongest possible driving distance using onlyelectricity.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid bat-
tery is sufficiently charged. Even in Puremode, the combustion engine will start if the charge level in the battery gets too low. Thecombustion engine will also start
if the vehicle's speed goes above125 km/h (78 mph)
if the driver requests more power than theelectric motor can provide
if factors such as cold weather affect thesystem or components.
This drive mode is adapted for the longestpossible driving distance with electric propul-sion and is primarily intended for use in city driving.
Pure helps provide the lowest possi-
ble consumption even when the hybrid battery is fully discharged. ECO climate is activated tocontrol the climate in the passenger compart-ment, and in slippery road conditions slightly more wheel spin may be permitted before all-wheel drive is automatically activated.
ECO Climate
In Pure mode, ECO climate is automatically
activated in the passenger compartment to help reduce energy consumption.
NOTE
When the Pure drive mode is activated,
settings for certain climate system and electricity consuming functions arereduced. Some of these settings can bereset manually, but full functionality will only be restored by leaving
Pure mode or
adapting the Individual drive mode to full
climate system functionality.
If condensation forms on the windows, tap the max defroster button, which will function nor-mally.
Off Road
Prioritizes the vehicle's ability to traverse difficult terrain or poor roads.
In this mode, ground clearance 7
is high, steer-
ing is light, and all-wheel drive and HillDescent Control are activated. This drive mode is only available at low speeds, up to 40 km/h (25 mph). If this speed is exceeded,
Off Road mode will be cancelled
and Constant AWD mode will be activated
instead. All-wheel drive requires both the combustion and electric motor to be in continuous opera-tion, which results in higher fuel consumption. In
Off Road mode, a compass will be dis-
played between the speedometer and the tachometer in the instrument panel. The per-missible speed range will be shown in thespeedometer.

Individual
Customizes drive mode to personal prefer- ences.
Select one of the drive modes as a basis andadjust the settings to achieve your preferreddriving characteristics. These settings will bestored in your driver profile. Individual drive mode is only available if it has been activated in the center display.

Using the electric or combustion engine
An advanced control system determines the distance that the vehicle can be driven on thecombustion engine, electric motor, or both atthe same time. Its primary function is to use the motor/engine and the current available in the hybrid batteryas efficiently as possible based on the charac-teristics of the various drive modes and thepower output requested by the driver bypressing the accelerator pedal. In certain cases, temporary limitations in the system or mandatory functions to help main- tain a low overall emissions level may result in greater use of the combustion engine.

Economical driving
Drive economically and more environmentally conscious by thinking ahead and avoidingrapid starts and stops.
Adapt your driving style and speed to the cur- rent traffic conditions. To help achieve the greatest distance with the lowest fuel consumption with Twin Engine,observe the following:
Charge
Charge the vehicle regularly by plugging it into an electrical outlet. Make it a habit toalways begin trips with the hybrid batteryfully charged.
Locate charging stations along your route.
If possible, choose parking spots withcharging stations.
NOTE
Charge the vehicle from the electricity grid as often as possible!
Preconditioning
Whenever possible, precondition the vehi- cle before driving by connecting thecharging cable to an electrical outlet.
Avoid parking the vehicle somewherewhere the interior will become too hot ortoo cold while the vehicle is parked. If pos- sible, park the vehicle in a climate-con-trolled garage.
During a short drive after passenger com-partment preconditioning, turn off thepassenger compartment fan or the airconditioning in a hot climate.
If preconditioning is not possible when itis cold outside, use seat and steeringwheel heating first. Avoid heating theentire passenger compartment to reducethe amount of current being taken fromthe hybrid battery.

Factors the driver cannot control
There are several outside conditions that affect range to varying degrees: the current traffic situation
driving short distances
topography
ambient temperature and headwinds
road conditions and road surface.
The table shows the approximate relationshipbetween ambient temperature and drivingrange with normal climate settings and withclimate settings turned off. Up to a certain limit, warmer ambient temper- atures increase the electric motor's drivingrange.

Tires are perishable goods. After a few years, they will begin to harden and their frictionproperties will gradually deteriorate. Alwaysreplace tires with the freshest tires possible.This is particularly important for snow tires. Aseries of numbers is imprinted on the sidewallof the tire. The last four digits in the series isthe Department of Transportation (DOT)stamp and indicates the week and year thetire was manufactured. The tire in the illustra-tion has 0717 as the last four digits, whichmeans it was manufactured week 7 of 2017.
Tire ageTires degrade over time, even when they arenot being used. It is recommended that tiresgenerally be replaced after 6 years of normalservice. Heat caused by hot climates, frequenthigh loading conditions or Ultra Violet (U.V.)exposure can accelerate the aging process. The temporary spare

should also be replaced
at 6-year intervals, even if it has never been used. A tire with e.g., visible cracks or discol-oration should be replaced immediately.
Tire economy
Maintain correct tire pressure.
Avoid fast starts, hard braking and tirescreeching.
Tire wear increases with speed.
Correct front wheel alignment is veryimportant.
Unbalanced wheels impair tire economyand driving comfort.
Tires must maintain the same direction ofrotation throughout their lifetime.
When replacing tires, the tires with themost tread should be mounted on the rearwheels to reduce the chance of oversteerduring hard braking.
Hitting curbs or potholes can damage thetires and/or wheels permanently.
Tire rotationYour vehicle has no required tire rotation. Driv-ing style, tire pressure, climate and road con-ditions affect how quickly the tires age andexhibit signs of wear. Maintaining the correcttire pressure helps keep tread wear evenly dis-tributed. To help prevent differences in tread depth and wear patterns forming on the tires, the frontand rear wheels should be rotated, i.e. thefront tires moved to the rear and the rear tiresmoved to the front. Ideally, tire rotation shouldbe done the first time after approximately5000 km (ca 3100 miles) and thereafter at10,000 km (approx. 6200 miles) intervals. If you have any questions regarding tread depth, Volvo recommends consulting an authorized Volvo workshop. If significant dif-ferences in wear (> 1 mm difference in treaddepth) between the tires have already occur-red, the least worn tires should always bemounted on the rear wheels. A front-wheelskid (understeer) is usually easier to controlthan a rear-wheel skid (oversteer). If the frontwheels skid, the vehicle will continue in astraight line instead of the rear wheels skid-ding to the side, which could cause you tocompletely lose control of the vehicle. It istherefore important that the rear wheels neverlose grip before the front wheels.
Storing wheels and tiresWhen storing complete wheels (tires mountedon rims), they should be suspended off thefloor or placed on their sides on the floor. Tires not mounted on rims should be stored on their sides or standing upright, but should notbe suspended.
CAUTION
Tires should preferably be stored in a cool, dry, dark place, and should never be storedin close proximity to solvents, gasoline,oils, etc.

Uniform Tire Quality GradingALL PASSENGER VEHICLE TIRES MUST CONFORM TO FEDERAL SAFETYREQUIREMENTS IN ADDITION TO THESEGRADES .
Quality grades can be found, where applica- ble, on the tire sidewall between the treadshoulder and maximum section width. Forexample: Treadwear 200 Traction AA Temperature A
TREADWEARThe treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate of the tire when testedunder controlled conditions on a specifiedgovernment test course. For example, a tiregraded 150 would wear one and one half (1 ½)times as well on the government course as atire graded 100. The relative performance oftires depends upon the actual conditions oftheir use, however, and many depart signifi-cantly from the norm due to variation in drivinghabits, maintenance practices and differencesin road characteristics and climate.
TRACTIONThe traction grades, from highest to lowest,are AA, A, B, and C, as measured under con-trolled conditions on specified governmenttest surfaces of asphalt and concrete. A tiremarked C may have poor traction perform-ance.
WARNING
The traction grade assigned to this tire is based on braking (straight-ahead) tractiontests and is not a measure of cornering(turning) traction.
TEMPERATUREThe temperature grades are A (the highest), B, and C, representing the tire's resistance to thegeneration of heat and its ability to dissipateheat when tested under controlled conditionson a specified indoor laboratory test wheel.Sustained high temperature can cause thematerial of the tire to degenerate and reducetire life, and excessive temperature can lead tosudden tire failure. The grade C correspondsto a minimum level of performance that allpassenger vehicle tires must meet under theFederal Motor Safety Standard No. 109.Grades B and A represent higher levels of per-formance on the laboratory test wheel thanthe minimum required by law.
WARNING
The temperature grade for this tire is estab- lished for a tire that is properly inflated andnot overloaded. Excessive speed, under-inflation, or excessive loading, either sepa-rately or in combination, can cause heatbuildup and tire failure.
