Emergency braking
In an emergency, the parking brake can be activated when the vehicle is moving by pull-ing and holding up the control. The brakingprocess is canceled when the control isreleased or if the accelerator pedal isdepressed.
NOTE
In case of emergency braking at high speeds, a signal sounds during the brakeprocedure.
Deactivating the parking brake
Deactivating manually
1. Depress the brake pedal firmly.2. Press the control.
> The parking brake will release and thesymbol in the instrument panel will go out.
Deactivating automatically
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Depress the brake pedal firmly. Move the gear selector to D or R and press the
accelerator pedal.
> The parking brake will release and the symbol in the instrument panel will go out.
NOTE
For automatic deactivation to be possible, the driver's seat belt must be buckled orthe driver's door closed.

Parking on a hillAlways use the parking brake when parking on a hill.
WARNING
Always apply the parking brake when park- ing on an incline. Selecting a gear or put-ting the automatic transmission in P may
not be sufficient to keep the vehicle sta-tionary in all situations.
If the vehicle is pointing uphill:
Turn the front wheels so they are pointing away from
the curb.
If the vehicle is pointing downhill:
Turn the front wheels so they are pointingtoward
the curb.
Heavy load uphill
Heavy loads, such as a trailer, could cause the vehicle to roll backward when the parkingbrake is released automatically on steep uphillgradients. To help avoid this, pull the controlupward while you are driving away. Releasethe control when the vehicle gains traction.

Parking brake malfunction
If you are unable to deactivate or activate the parking brake after several attempts, contactan authorized Volvo workshop.
A audible warning signal will sound if the park- ing brake is activated while the vehicle isbeing driven. If the vehicle must be parked before the prob- lem is rectified, turn the wheels as when park-ing on an incline and put the gear selector inP .
Low battery charge levelIf the battery charge level is too low, it will notbe possible to activate or deactivate the park-ing brake. Connect an auxiliary battery to thevehicle if the battery is discharged.
Replacing brake padsDue to the design of the electric parkingbrake, the rear brake pads must be replacedby a workshop. An authorized Volvo workshopis recommended.

Auto-hold brakes
With the Auto-hold brake function, the driver can release the brake pedal and the brakeswill remain applied, for example, when thevehicle has stopped at a traffic light or inter-section.
When the vehicle stops, the brakes are acti- vated automatically. The function can useeither the normal brakes or the parking brakesto keep the vehicle stationary and works onflat surfaces or hills. If the driver has their seatbelt fastened or if the driver's door is closed,the brakes will disengage automatically whenthe vehicle starts driving.
NOTE
When braking to a stop on an uphill or downhill gradient, depress the brake pedalwith slightly more force than usual beforereleasing to ensure that the vehicle cannotmove at all.

the vehicle has been stationary for a pro- longed period of time (5-10 minutes)

Gear selector positions
Park - P
Gear selector and P position overview
Park is activated using the P button located
next to the gear selector. In P mode, the transmission is mechanically
locked.Select P when the vehicle is parked or when
starting the engine. The vehicle must be sta- tionary when Park is selected. To move to another gear from Park, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition inmode II.
When parking – apply the parking brake before shifting to Park.
WARNING
Always apply the parking brake when park- ing on an incline. Selecting a gear or put-ting the automatic transmission in P may
not be sufficient to keep the vehicle sta-tionary in all situations.
NOTE
The gear selector must be in position P in
order to lock the vehicle and set the alarm.

D or R
is selected.
if the driver unbuckles the seat belt and opens the driver's door while the vehicle isrunning with the gear selector in a gearother than
P.
To park a vehicle with an unbuckled seat beltand open door – end P mode by shifting to R
or D again.
The system will not automatically shift to P if
the ignition is switched off while the gearselector is in the neutral position (N). This is tomake it possible to wash the vehicle in anautomatic car wash in which the vehicle ispulled forward on rolling wheels.
Reverse - R
Select R when backing up. The vehicle must
be stationary when Reverse is selected.
Neutral - N
No gear is selected and the engine can be started. Apply the parking brake if the vehicleis stationary with the gear selector in N.
To move the gear selector from N to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed andthe ignition in mode II.
D drive mode
D is the normal driving gear position. The
transmission shifts up or down automatically depending on acceleration and speed. The vehicle must be stationary when the gear selector is moved from R to D.

Starting and stopping the combustion engine in Twin Enginevehicles An advanced control system determines the distance that the vehicle can be driven on thecombustion engine, electric motor, or both atthe same time. When driving on only theelectric motor, the vehicle may automaticallystart the combustion engine due to outsidecircumstances, e.g. low ambient tempera-tures. This is completely normal. The com-bustion engine will also always start whenthe hybrid battery is nearly fully discharged.
Climate settings at low temperaturesAt low ambient temperatures, the combustion engine will sometimes start automatically tohelp achieve the desired passenger compart-ment temperature and air quality. The amountof time the combustion engine is running canbe affected by lowering the temperature

Using the electric motor in hot or cold
weather
At very low or high ambient temperatures, the electric motor's driving range and power maybe reduced and affect how often the combus-tion engine automatically starts.
Emission control systemTo help ensure that the emission control sys-tem is as energy-efficient as possible, thecombustion engine will run for several minutesafter it is started. The amount of time the com-bustion engine needs to be used variesdepending on the temperature of the three-way catalytic converter.

Keep in mind that the vehicle does not emit any engine noise when using the electricmotor and may therefore be difficult todetect for children, pedestrians, cyclists oranimals. This is particularly true at lowspeeds, e.g. in parking lots.

Leveling control settings *
Turn off leveling control before lifting the vehicle with a jack to help avoid problemswith the pneumatic suspension.
Center display settings
Disable Leveling Control
In certain situations, this function must be turned off, e.g. before the vehicle is raised using a jack *. The level difference caused by
raising the vehicle with a jack could cause problems with the pneumatic suspension. Turning off the function in the center display:1. Tap

Economical driving
Drive economically and more environmentally conscious by thinking ahead and avoidingrapid starts and stops.
Adapt your driving style and speed to the cur- rent traffic conditions. To help achieve the greatest distance with the lowest fuel consumption with Twin Engine,observe the following:
Charge
Charge the vehicle regularly by plugging it into an electrical outlet. Make it a habit toalways begin trips with the hybrid batteryfully charged.
Locate charging stations along your route.
If possible, choose parking spots withcharging stations.
NOTE
Charge the vehicle from the electricity grid as often as possible!
Preconditioning
Whenever possible, precondition the vehi- cle before driving by connecting thecharging cable to an electrical outlet.
Avoid parking the vehicle somewherewhere the interior will become too hot ortoo cold while the vehicle is parked. If pos- sible, park the vehicle in a climate-con-trolled garage.
During a short drive after passenger com-partment preconditioning, turn off thepassenger compartment fan or the airconditioning in a hot climate.
If preconditioning is not possible when itis cold outside, use seat and steeringwheel heating first. Avoid heating theentire passenger compartment to reducethe amount of current being taken fromthe hybrid battery.

Remove the cover by pressing on the mark with a finger while folding out theopposite side/corner.
> The cover turns along its center line and
can then be removed. 3. Screw the towing eyelet into place as far
as possible.Fasten the eyelet securing by, for example, inserting a lug wrench * through it and
using this as a lever.
CAUTION
It is important that the towing eye is screwed in securely as far as possible.
Removing the towing eyelet–Unscrew the towing eyelet after use and return it to its storage location in the foamblock. Replace the cover on the bumper.

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehicle with a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assis- tance. In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can be used to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed towtruck.
CAUTION
Note that vehicles with Twin Engine must always be towed raised with all wheels onthe tow truck.
For vehicles equipped with leveling con- trol *: If the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic
suspension, this feature must be turned off before the vehicle is lifted onto a tow truck.Turning off the function in the center display. 1. Tap

The vehicle's location and ground clearance determine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or ifthe ground clearance under the vehicle isinsufficient, attempting to pull it up may resultin damage. In this case, the vehicle should

Removing a wheel Wheel changes must always be carried out correctly. The following instructions showhow to remove a wheel and what is impor-tant to keep in mind.
CAUTION
When not in use, the jack
* should be
kept in its storage compartment under the cargo compartment floor.
The jack provided with your vehicle isintended to be used only in temporarysituations such as changing wheels inthe event of a flat tire. Only the jackthat came with your particular modelshould be used to lift the vehicle. If thevehicle needs to be lifted more fre-quently or for a prolonged period, usinga garage jack or hoist is recommended.Always follow this device's instructionsfor use.
WARNING
Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (
P) position.
Block the wheels standing on theground, use rigid wooden blocks orlarge stones.
Check that the jack is not damaged,the threads are properly lubricated andit is free from dirt.
Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface and that it is uprightand not leaning.
The jack must correctly engage in thejack attachment.
No objects should be placed betweenthe base of the jack and the ground, orbetween the jack and the attachmentbar on the vehicle.
Never let anyone remain in the vehiclewhen it is raised on a jack.
If a tire must be changed near passingtraffic, make sure all passengers moveto a safe location.
Use a jack intended for the vehiclewhen changing a tire. For any otherjob, use stands to support the vehicle.
Never crawl under or allow any part ofyour body to be extended under a vehi-cle supported by a jack. 1. Turn on the vehicle's hazard warning
flashers if a wheel change must be per-formed in an area with traffic.
2. Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in P, or first gear if the vehicle has
a manual transmission. For vehicles with
Leveling Control* : If the
vehicle is equipped with pneumatic sus- pension, this must be switched off before the vehicle is lifted with the jack *.
3. Take out the jack *, lug wrench * and tool for
removing the plastic covers, which are stowed in the foam block.
Tool for removing the plastic covers on the wheel bolts.
4. Place chocks in front of and behind the wheels that are still on the ground. For example, use heavy wooden blocks orlarge stones.
