WARNING
Never try to open, remove or repair any components in the OWS system. Thiscould cause the system to malfunction.Maintenance or repairs should only becarried out by an a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician.
The front passenger's seat should notbe modified in any way. This couldreduce pressure on the seat cushion, which might interfere with the OWSsystem's function.

Volvo recommends that children always be properly restrained in appropriate child restraints in the rear seats.Do not assume that the passenger's side front airbag is dis-abled unless the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lampis lit. Make sure the child restraint is properly installed. Ifthere is any doubt as to the status of the passenger's sidefront airbag, move the child restraint to the rear seat.
The OWS is designed to enable (may inflate) the passenger's side front airbag in the eventof a collision anytime the system senses that aperson of adult size is sitting properly in thefront passenger's seat. The PASSENGER AIR-BAG OFF indicator lamp will be off andremain off. If a person of adult size is sitting in the front passenger's seat, but the PASSENGER AIR- BAG OFF indicator lamp is on, it is possiblethat the person isn't sitting properly in theseat. If this happens:
Turn the vehicle off and ask the person toplace the backrest in an upright position.
Have the person sit upright in the seat, centered on the seat cushion, with theperson's legs comfortably extended.
Restart the vehicle and have the personremain in this position for about twominutes. This will allow the system todetect that person and enable the pas-senger's frontal airbag.
If the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indica-tor lamp remains on even after this, theperson should be advised to ride in therear seat.
This indicates limitations in OWS classifica-tion capability. It does not indicate OWS mal-function.ModificationsIf you are considering modifying your vehiclein any way to accommodate a disability, forexample by altering or adapting the driver's orfront passenger's seat(s) and/or airbag sys-tems, please contact Volvo at: In the United StatesVolvo Car USA, LLCCustomer Care Center

Inflatable curtain The inflatable curtain, Inflatable Curtain (IC), helps to prevent the driver and passengersfrom striking their heads on the inside of thevehicle during a collision.
The inflatable curtains are installed along both sides of the inside of the roof and help protectoccupants in the vehicle's outer seats. IC
AIRBAG is embossed on the panels.
A collision of a sufficiently violent force willtrigger the sensors and the inflatable curtainwill inflate.
WARNING
Volvo recommends contacting an author- ized Volvo workshop for repair. Incorrectlyperformed repairs to the inflatable curtainsystem could impair function and lead toserious injury.
WARNING
Never hang or attach heavy objects in the handle in the ceiling. The hooks are onlyintended for lightweight garments (not forhard objects such as umbrellas). Never screw or mount anything to the vehi- cle's headlining, door pillars or side panels. This could impair the intended protectiveproperties. Volvo recommends only usingVolvo original parts that are approved forplacement in these areas.
WARNING
If objects are loaded higher than the upper edge of the side windows, leave a 10 cm(4 in.) space between the objects and thewindow. Objects placed closer to thiscould impede the function of the inflatablecurtain concealed inside the headlining.
WARNING
The inflatable curtain is a supplement to the seat belt. Always wear your seat belt.

Fuel gauge The fuel gauge in the instrument panel shows the fuel level in the tank.
The illustration is generic - details may vary accord- ing to vehicle model.
The beige area in the fuel gauge indicates the amount of fuel left in the tank. When the fuel level is low and it is time to refuel, the fuel pump symbol will illuminate with an amber-colored light. The trip computer also indicates the approximate distance drivenon the fuel remaining in the tank.

Hybrid gauge In Hybrid and Pure drive modes, the instru- ment panel will display a hybrid gauge, whichcan help the driver achieve optimal drivingeconomy.
The hybrid gauge shows the ratio between the electric motor's current power consumptionand the remaining available power. This infor-mation is shown in various ways.
Symbols in the hybrid gaugeIndicates the current available powerfrom the electric motor. A solid sym-bol indicates that the electric motoris being used.
A hollow symbol indicates that the electric motor is not being used.
Indicates the power level when the internal combustion engine starts. Asolid symbol indicates that the inter-nal combustion engine is being used.
Indicates the power level when the internal combustion engine will start.A hollow symbol indicates that theinternal combustion engine is not
being used.
Indicates that the hybrid battery is being charged, e.g. by lightly press-ing the brake pedal.
Driver-requested powerThe hybrid gauge displays the amount of power requested (utilized) by the driverthrough pressure on the accelerator pedal. Thehigher the reading on the scale, the morepower utilized in the current gear. The markbetween the lightning symbol and the dropsymbol indicates the point at which the com-bustion engine will start.

The vehicle has been started, but is stationary and no power is being requested.
The electric motor cannot supply the requested power and the internal combustion engine will start.
The vehicle is generating current to recharge the bat- tery, e.g. during light braking or engine braking on adownslope.

Hybrid battery gauge
The hybrid battery gauge shows how much current is left in the hybrid battery.
The current in the hybrid battery is used to power the electric motor, but can also be usedto heat or cool the vehicle. The trip computercalculates an approximate driving distancewith the remaining current in the hybrid bat-tery.

Date and time The clock is displayed in both the instrument panel and the center display.
Location of clock
Certain messages and other information may obscure the clock in the instrument panel. In the center display, the clock is located on the upper right-hand side in the status bar.
Settings for date and time–Select SettingsSystemDate and
Time in the center display's Top view to
change settings for time and date format. Adjust the date and time by tapping the up or down arrows on the touchscreen.
Automatic time for vehicles with GPS
When the vehicle is equipped with a naviga- tion system, Auto Time is also available. The time zone will then be automatically set to the vehicle's location. In some navigation systems, the current location must also be set to deter- mine the correct time zone. If
Auto Time is
not selected, the time and date can be adjusted using the up and down arrows on thetouchscreen.
Daylight savings time
In some countries, the Auto Daylight Saving
Time setting can be selected to automatically
change to daylight savings time. For other countries, the
Daylight Saving Time setting
can be selected manually.

Ambient temperature sensor
The ambient temperature is shown in the instrument panel.
The sensor detects the temperature outside the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been stationary, the sensor reading may be higher than the actual tem- perature.
When the ambient temperature isbetween –5 °C and +2 °C (23 °F
and 36 °F), a snowflake symbol will
illuminate to alert the driver of the
risk of slippery conditions. The symbol is also temporarily lit in the head- up display * if the vehicle is equipped with one.
Change the measurement standard for the temperature sensor etc. via system settings in the center display's Top view.
