Trip computer
The vehicle's trip computer registers data while driving such as mileage, fuel consump-tion and average speed.
To help promote fuel-efficient driving, data is recorded on both current and average fuelconsumption. Data from the trip computer canbe displayed in the instrument panel.
Example of trip computer information in the instru- ment panel. The illustration is generic - details mayvary according to vehicle model.
The trip computer includes the following gauges:
Trip odometer
Odometer
Current fuel consumption
Distance to empty tank
Distance to discharged battery
Tourist - alternative speedometer
Unit standards for distance, speed, etc. can bechanged via system settings in the center dis-play.
Trip odometerThere are two trip odometers: TM and TA. TM can be reset manually and TA is reset automatically if the vehicle is not used for fourhours. During a drive, the trip odometer registers data on:
Mileage
Driving time
Average speed
Average fuel consumption
The readings since the trip odometer's lastreset are displayed.
OdometerThe odometer records the vehicle's total mile-age. This reading cannot be reset.
Current fuel consumptionThis gauge shows the vehicle's fuel consump-tion at that moment. The reading is updatedabout once a second.

Distance to empty tankThe trip computer calculates the dis- tance that can be driven on the fuelremaining in the tank.
This calculation is based on average fuel con- sumption during the last 30 km (20 miles)and the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. When the gauge displays "----", there is not enough fuel remaining to calculate the remain-ing mileage. Refuel as soon as possible.
NOTE
The information will change based on your driving style.
An economical driving style will generally increase how far you can drive on a certainamount of fuel.
Distance to discharged batteryThis gauge shows the approximatedistance that can be driven with theremaining current in the hybrid bat-tery.
This calculation is based on average consump- tion with a normally loaded vehicle in normaldriving conditions, and takes into accountwhether the air conditioning is on or off. Changing drive modes from
Hybrid to Puremay increase the calculated distance because
Pure mode has reduced climate control set-
tings (ECO Climate). When the gauge displays "----", there is little charge remaining in the battery and electricmotor range cannot be reliably calculated.
NOTE
The information will change based on your driving style.
An economical driving style will generally increase how far you can drive on a certainamount of fuel.
Starting values for fully charged hybrid battery
Because it is difficult to predict driving style and other factors that affect the range of elec-tric motors, Volvo uses a starting value whenthe vehicle is fully charged. This starting valueprovides an "up to" amount instead of a pre-diction on the range of the electric current inthe motor. The difference in starting value between
Hybrid and Pure is because the
vehicle is permitted to use more current from the hybrid battery in
Pure mode, and because
the vehicle switches to ECO Climate.
Mileage when using electric motor
To achieve the longest possible mileage when using the electric motor, the driver of an elec-tric vehicle also needs to think about conserv- ing electricity. The more electricity consumers(stereo, heated windows/mirrors/seats, verycold air from climate control system, etc.) thatare active, the shorter the potential mileage.
NOTE
In addition to high electrical consumption in the passenger compartment, rapidacceleration, sudden braking, high speeds, heavy loads, low ambient temperaturesand driving up hills can reduce possibledriving distance.
Tourist - alternative speedometerThe alternative digital speedometer makes it easier to drive in countries where speed limitsigns are shown in a different measurementunit than the one shown in the vehicle'sgauges. When used, the digital speed is displayed in the opposite unit to that shown in the analogspeedometer. If
mph is used in the analog
speedometer, the equivalent speed in km/h
will be shown in the digital speedometer.

DRIVER SUPPORT
* Option/accessory.301
Deactivation of the Auto-hold brake function
In certain situations, auto-hold will be deacti- vated when the vehicle is at a standstill andthe function will go into standby mode. Thismeans that the brakes will be released and thevehicle could begin to roll. The driver mustactively apply the brakes to keep the vehiclestationary. This can occur if:
the driver depresses the brake pedal
the parking brake is applied
the gear selector is moved to the
P, N or R
positions
the driver puts the function in standby mode.
Auto Activate Parking BrakeIn certain situations, the parking brake will beapplied to keep the vehicle at a standstill. This occurs if the function is keeping the vehi- cle stationary using the brakes and:
the driver opens the door or unbuckleshis/her seat belt
the function has kept the vehicle at astandstill for more than approx. 5 minutes
the brakes overheat
the driver switches off the engine man-ually.

General information about Twin Engine Twin Engine vehicles are driven just like any other vehicle, but certain functions differ froma vehicle powered exclusively by gasoline. The electric motor powers the vehicle primar-ily at low speeds; the gasoline engine is usedat higher speeds or during more active driv-ing.
The instrument panel displays Twin Engine- specific information - charging information, selected drive mode, distance to dischargedbattery and hybrid battery charge level. Different drive modes can be selected while driving, e.g. electric power only or, if morepower is needed, a combination of electric andgasoline power. The vehicle calculates a com-bination of driveability, driving experience, environmental impact and fuel economy forthe selected drive mode. In order to function optimally, the hybrid bat- tery (and its electrical drive systems) and thegasoline engine (and its drive systems) mustbe at the correct operating temperature. Bat-tery capacity can be considerably reduced ifthe battery is too cold or too hot. Precondi-tioning prepares the vehicle's drive systemsand passenger compartment before driving tohelp reduce both wear and energy consump-tion. It also helps increase the hybrid battery'srange. The hybrid battery which powers the electricmotor is recharged using the charging cable. Itcan also be recharged during light braking andthrough engine braking in gear position
B. The
combustion engine can also help recharge thehybrid battery.
Important
No electrical current
Keep in mind that if there is no electrical cur- rent to the vehicle, i.e. the ignition is switchedoff or the start battery is discharged, certainfunctions such as brakes, power steering, etc.will not work.
WARNING
If the vehicle does not have electrical cur- rent and both the electric motor and thegasoline engine are switched off, thebrakes cannot be used to stop the vehicle.
Towing not permitted
Never tow a Twin Engine vehicle behind another vehicle, as this could damage theelectric motor.
Exterior engine noise
Because there is no sound from the engine when only the electric motor is running, thevehicle is equipped with artificial exteriorbackground noise. This sound is intended tohelp warn children, pedestrians, cyclists, ani- mals, etc. outside the vehicle of the vehicle'sapproach.
High-voltage electrical current
WARNING
A number of electrical components in Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid vehicles use high-voltage current and can be extremely dan-gerous if handled incorrectly. These com-ponents and any orange wiring in the vehi-cle may only be handled by trained andqualified Volvo service technicians.
Do not touch anything that is not clearly described in this Owner's Manual.

For more information go towww.P65Warnings.ca.gov/passenger-vehicle.
The hybrid battery can be recharged using the charging cable stored in a storage space in thetrunk.
WARNING
The hybrid electrical system in your vehicle uses high voltage electrical current. Anydamage to this system or to the hybrid bat-tery may result in the danger of overheat-ing, fire, or serious injury. If the vehicle isinvolved in a collision or subjected to flood-ing, fire, etc., have it inspected by a trainedand qualified Volvo service technician. Priorto this inspection, the vehicle should beparked outdoors at a safe distance fromany building or potentially flammable mate-rials.
The hybrid battery's charging time depends on the charging current used.
NOTE
The capacity of the hybrid battery dimin- ishes somewhat with age and use, whichcould result in increased use of the gaso-line engine and consequently, slightlyhigher fuel consumption.
WARNING
If the hybrid battery needs to be replaced, this may only be done by a Volvo retailer orauthorized Volvo workshop.
