3-2. Combination Meter and Display
■Odometer
The odometer records the total distance the vehicle has been
driven.
■Tr i p m e t e r
The trip meter can record the to tal distance of two trips. One is
recorded in trip meter A, and the other is recorded in trip met er B.
For instance, trip meter A can re cord the distance from the point of
origin, and trip meter B can record the distance from where the fuel
tank is filled.
When trip meter A is selected, pressing the selector again with in
one second will change to trip meter B mode.
When trip meter A is selected, TRIP A will be displayed. When t rip
meter B is selected, TRI P B will be displayed.
The trip meter records the total distance the vehicle is driven until
the meter is again reset. Return it to “0.0” by depressing and hold-
ing the selector for one second or more. Use this meter to meas ure
trip distances and to com pute fuel consumption.
■Odometer, Trip Meter and Trip Meter Selector
When the ignition is switched to ACC or off, the odometer or trip meters can-
not be displayed, however, pressing the selector can inadverten tly switch the
trip meters or reset them duri ng an approximate ten-minute peri od in the fol-
lowing cases:
● After the ignition is switched to off from ON.
● After the driver’s door is opened.
■ Trip meter
●If TRIP A is reset using the trip meter when the function which synchronizes
(resets) the fuel economy monitor and the trip meter (TRIP A) i s on, the fuel
economy data resets in conjunction with TRIP A.
Refer to Fuel Economy Monitor on P. 221.
● Only the trip meters record tenths of miles (kilometers).
● The trip record will be erased when:
• The power supply is interrupted (blown fuse or the battery is discon-
nected).
• The vehicle is driven over 9999.9 mile (km).

3-2. Combination Meter and Display
■Current fuel economy mode
Current fuel economy will be calculated and displayed every 2 sec-
onds.
When you’ve slowed to about 3 mph (5 km/h), - - - mpg (- - - L/ 100
km) will be displayed.
■Average vehicle speed mode
Average vehicle speed will be cal culated and displayed every 10
seconds.
To clear the data being displayed, press the INFO button for mo re
than 1.5 seconds.
After pressing the IN FO button, - - - mph (- - - km/h) will be dis-
played for about 1 minute before the vehicle speed is recalculated
and displayed.
■ Distance-to-empty mode
●Even though the distance-to-empty display may indicate a suffic ient amount
of remaining driving distance before refueling is required, refuel as soon as
possible if the fuel level is very low or the low fuel warning light illuminates.
● The display may not change unless you add more than approximate ly 2.3
gal. (9 L, 1.9 Imp.gal.) of fuel.
● The distance-to-empty is the approximate remaining distance the vehicle
can be driven until all the graduation marks in the fuel gauge (indicating the
remaining fuel supply) disappear.
● If there is no past fuel economy information such as after firs t purchasing
your vehicle or the information is deleted when the battery cab les are dis-
connected, the actual distance-to empty/range may differ from t he amount
indicated.
■ Average fuel economy mode
If TRIP A is reset using the trip meter when the function which synchronizes
(resets) the fuel economy monitor and the trip meter (TRIP A) i s on, the dis-
played past data is reset.
This mode displays the current fuel economy
by calculating the amount of fuel consumption
and the distance traveled.
This mode displays the average vehicle speed
by calculating the distance and the time trav-
eled since connecting the battery or resetting
the data.

3-4. Switches and Controls
When the lights are turned on, the
lights-on indicator light in the com-
bination meter turns on.
■Auto-light control (if equipped)
When the headlight switch is in the AUTO position and the ignition
is switched ON, the light sensor s enses the surrounding lightness
or darkness and automatically turns the headlights, other exter ior
lights and dashboard illumination on or off.
■ Headlights
●If the light switch is left on, the lights will automatically switch off approxi-
mately 30 seconds after switching the ignition off.
The time setting can be changed.
Refer to Customizable Features on P. 555.
● To prevent discharging the battery, do not leave the lights on while the
engine is off unless safety requires them.
■ Auto-light control
●The headlights, other exterior lights and dashboard illuminatio n may not turn
off immediately even if the surrounding area becomes well-lit because the
light sensor determines that it is night time if the surrounding area is contin-
uously dark for several minutes such as inside long tunnels, tr affic jams
inside tunnels, or in indoor parking lots.
In this case, the lights turn off if the light switch is turned to the OFF position.
● If the headlight switch and the windshield wiper switch are in AUTO, and the
wipers are operated at low or high speed by the auto wiper cont rol for sev-
eral seconds, bad weather conditions are determined and the hea dlights
may be turned on.
● The dashboard illumination can be adjusted by rotating the knob in the
instrument cluster.
Also, the day/night mode can be changed by rotating the knob un til a beep
sound is heard.
To adjust the brightness of the dashboard illumination:
Refer to Dashboard Illumination on P. 169.
● The sensitivity of the auto-light control may be changed.
Refer to Customizable Features on P. 555.

3-12. Tire Pressure Monitoring System
In the following cases, system initialization must be performed so that
the system operates normally. • A tire pressure is adjusted.
• Tire rotation is performed.
• A tire or wheel is replaced.
• The battery is replaced or completely drained.
• The tire pressure m onitoring system warning light is illuminated.
■Initialization method
Park the car in a safe place and firmly apply the parking brake.
Let the tires cool, then adjust the tire pressure of all four (4) tires
to the specified pressure indicated on the tire pressure label
located on the door jamb of t he driver’s door (door open).
Refer to Tires on P. 553.
Switch the ignition ON.
While the vehicle is parked,
press and hold the tire pres-
sure monitoring system set
switch and verify that the tire
pressure monitoring system
warning light in the combina-
tion meter flashes twice and
a beep sound is heard once.

NOTICE
If the system initialization is performed without adjusting the tire pres-
sure, the system cannot detect th e normal tire pressure and it may not
illuminate the tire pre ssure monitoring system warning light ev en if a tire
pressure is low, or it may illuminate the light even if the pre ssures are
normal.
Adjust the tire pressure on all four tires and initialize the s ystem when
the warning light is turned on. If the warning light turns on f or a reason
other than a flat tire, the tire pressure of all four tires may have
decreased naturally.
The system initialization will not be performed if the switch i s pressed
while the vehicle is being driven.

4-1. Climate Control System
Operating Tips
• Operate the climate control system with the engine running.
• To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not leave the fan
control dial on for a long perio d of time with the ignition switched
ON when the engine is not running.
• Clear all obstructions such as l eaves, snow and ice from the hood
and the air inlet in t he cowl grille to imp rove the system efficiency.
• Use the climate control system to defog the windows and dehumi d-
ify the air.
• The recirculate mode should be used when driving through tunne ls
or while in a traffic jam, or when you would like to shut off o utside
air for quick cooling of the interior.
• Use the outside air position for ventilation or windshield defrosting.
• If the vehicle has been parked in direct sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows to let warm air escape, then run the climate con-
trol system.
• Run the air conditioner about 10 minutes at least once a month to
keep internal parts lubricated.
• Have the air conditioner checke d before the weather gets hot. Lack
of refrigerant may make the ai r conditioner less efficient.
The refrigerant specifications
are indicated on a label
attached to the inside of the
engine compartment. Check
the label before refilling the
refrigerant. If the wrong type of
refrigerant is used, it could
result in a serious malfunction
of the air conditioner.
For details, consult your Toyota
dealer.

Interior Features
Operating Tips for Audio System
Do not spill any liquid on the audio
system.
●To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not leave the audio system
on for a long period of time when the engine is not running.
● If a cellular phone or CB radio is used in or near the vehicle, it could cause
noise to occur from the audio system, however, this does not in dicate that
the system has been damaged.
WARNING
■ Always adjust the audio wh ile the vehicle is stopped
Do not adjust the audio control switches while driving the vehi cle. Adjusting
the audio while driving the vehicle is dangerous as it could di stract your
attention from the vehicle operation which could lead to a seri ous accident.
Even if the audio control switches are equipped on the steering wheel, learn
to use the switches without looking down at them so that you ca n keep your
maximum attention on the road while driving the vehicle.
NOTICE
For the purposes of safe driving, adjust the audio volume to a level that
allows you to hear sounds outside of the vehicle including car horns and
particularly emergency vehicle sirens.
