WARNING
■Caution regarding interference with electronic devices
●People with implantable cardiac pacemakers, cardiac resynchroni-zation therapy-pacemakers or
implantable cardioverter defibrilla- tors should maintain a reasonable distance between themselves and
the smart entry & start system antennas. ( →P.109) The radio waves may affect the
operation of such devices. If neces- sary, the entry function can be dis-abled. Ask any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer for details, such as the frequency of
radio waves and timing of the emit- ted radio waves. Then, consult your doctor to see if you should disable
the entry function.
●Users of any electrical medical
device other than implantable car- diac pacemakers, cardiac resyn-chronization therapy-pacemakers
or implantable cardioverter defibril- lators should consult the manufac-turer of the device for information
about its operation under the influ- ence of radio waves.Radio waves could have unex-
pected effects on the operation of such medical devices.

4-3. Operating the lights and wipers
Driving
4 Temporary operation
When “AUTO” is selected, the wipers
will operate automatically when the
sensor detects falling rain. The system
automatically adjusts wiper timing in
accordance with rain volume and vehi-
cle speed.
When “AUTO” is selected, the sen-
sor sensitivity can be adjusted as
follows by turning the switch ring.
5 Increases the rain-sensing wind-
shield wiper sensitivity
6 Decreases the rain-sensing
windshield wiper sensitivity
7 Washer/wiper dual oper-
ation
Pulling the lever operates the wipers
and washer.
Wipers will automatically operate a cou-
ple of times after the washer squirts.
■The windshield wiper and washer can be operated when
The engine switch is in ON.
■Effects of vehicle speed on wiper operation
Vehicle speed affects the Intermittent
wiper interval.
■Raindrop sensor
●The raindrop sensor judges the
amount of raindrops. An optical sensor is adopted. It may not operate properly when sunlight
from the rising or setting of the sun intermittently strikes the windshield, or if bugs etc. are present on the wind-
shield.
●If the wiper is turned to AUTO mode
while the engine switch is in ON, the wipers will operate once to show that AUTO mode is activated.
●If the temperature of the raindrop sen-sor is 85°C (185°F) or higher, or -15°C
(5°F) or lower, automatic operation may not occur. In this case, operate
the wipers in any mode other than AUTO mode.
■If no windshield washer fluid sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not blocked if there is washer fluid in the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

4-5. Using the driving support systems
*: If equipped
The system can detect the following (The detectable objects differs
depending on the function.):
PCS (Pre-Collision System)*
The pre-collision system uses a radar sensor and front camera to
detect objects (→P.160) in front of the vehicle. When the system
determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with an object is
high, a warning operates to urge the driver to take evasive action
and the potential brake pressure is increased to help the driver
avoid the collision. If the system determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision with an object is extremely high, the brakes are
automatically applied to help avoid the collision or help reduce the
impact of the collision.
The pre-collision system can be disabled/enabled and the warning
timing can be changed. (→P.164)

WARNING
●Although this system is designed to help avoid a collision or help reduce
the impact of the collision, its effec- tiveness may change according to various conditions, therefore the
system may not always be able to achieve the same level of perfor-mance.
Read the following conditions care- fully. Do not overly rely on this sys-tem and always drive carefully.
• Conditions under which the system may operate even if there is no pos-
sibility of a collision: →P. 1 6 7
• Conditions under which the system
may not operate properly: →P. 1 6 9
●Do not attempt to test the operation
of the pre-collision system yourself. Depending on the objects used for testing (dummies, cardboard
objects imitating detectable objects, etc.), the system may not operate properly, possibly leading to an
accident.
■Pre-collision braking
●When the pre-collision braking function is operating, a large amount of braking force will be
applied.
●If the vehicle is stopped by the
operation of the pre-collision brak- ing function, the pre-collision brak-ing function operation will be
canceled after approximately 2 sec- onds. Depress the brake pedal as necessary.
●The pre-collision braking function may not operate if certain opera-tions are performed by the driver. If
the accelerator pedal is being depressed strongly or the steering wheel is being turned, the system
may determine that the driver is tak- ing evasive action and possibly pre-vent the pre-collision braking
function from operating.
●In some situations, while the pre-
collision braking function is operat- ing, operation of the function may be canceled if the accelerator pedal
is depressed strongly or the steer- ing wheel is turned and the system determines that the driver is taking
evasive action.
●If the brake pedal is being
depressed, the system may deter- mine that the driver is taking eva-sive action and possibly delay the
operation timing of the pre-collision braking function.
■Emergency steering assist (for region A)
●As emergency steering assist oper-
ation will be canceled when the sys- tem determines that lane departure prevention function has been com-
pleted.
●Emergency steering assist may not
operate or may be cancel in the fol- lowing cases as the system may determine the driver is taking
actions.
• If the accelerator pedal is being
depressed strongly, the steering wheel is being operated sharply, the brake pedal is being depressed
or the turn signal lever is being operated. In this case, the system may determine that the driver is tak-
ing evasive action and the emer- gency steering assist may not operate.

“Pre-Collision System OFF”
■Changing the pre-collision
warning timing
The pre-collision warning timing
can be changed on ( →P.361) of
the multi-information display.
The warning timing setting is retained
when the engine switch is turned off.
However, if the pre-collision system is
disabled and re-enabled, the operation
timing will return to the default setting
(middle).
For region A: If the pre-collision
warning timing is changed, emer-
gency steering assist timing will
also be changed accordingly.
If late is selected, emergency steer-
ing assist would not operate in case
of an emergency.

2 Middle
This is the default setting.

■Operational conditions for each pre-collision function
The pre-collision system is enabled and the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with a detected object is high. The system may not operate in the following situations:
• If a battery terminal has been disconnected and reconnected and then the vehicle has not been driven for a certain amount of time
• If the shift lever is in R
• When the VSC OFF indicator is illuminated (only the pre-collision warning function will be operational)
The operation speeds and operation cancellation for each function is listed below.

5-1. Using the air conditioning system and defogger
Interior features
• It is recommended that the air condi-
tioning system be set to outside air mode prior to turning the vehicle off.• The start timing of the blower may be
delayed for a short period of time immediately after the air conditioning system is started in automatic mode.
●When parking, the system automati-cally switches to outside air mode to
encourage better air circulation throughout the vehicle, helping to reduce odors that occur when starting
the vehicle.
■Air conditioning filter
→ P. 2 9 3
■Customization
Some functions can be customized.
( →P.361)
1Press the automatic mode
switch.
2 Adjust the temperature setting.
3 To stop the operation, press the
off switch.
If the fan speed setting or air flow
modes are operated, the automatic
mode indicator goes off. However,
automatic mode for functions other
than that operated is maintained.
■Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and the ambient conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until warm or cool air is ready to flow immediately after the automatic mode
switch pressed.
To turn on the “DUAL” mode, per-
form any of the following proce-
dures:
z Press the “DUAL” switch.
z Adjust the front passenger’s side
temperature setting.
The indicator on the “DUAL” switch
comes on when the “DUAL” mode is
on.
Pressing the “DUAL” switch when in
“DUAL” mode will disable “DUAL”
mode, and the temperature setting for
the front passenger’s side will become
linked to the driver’s side.
WARNING
■To prevent the windshield from fogging up
Do not use the windshield defogger switch during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The differ-
ence between the temperature of the outside air and that of the windshield can cause the outer surface of the
windshield to fog up, blocking your vision.
■When the outside rear view mir-ror defoggers are operating
Do not touch the outside rear view
mirror surfaces, as they can become very hot and burn you.
NOTICE
■To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditioning sys-
tem on longer than necessary when the engine is off.
