VEHICLE ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. Examples of modifica
tions to your vehicle
that can cause damage or performance prob- lems include the following: Failure to use
Mitsubishi Motors genuine
parts Failure to use required fuel and fluids Failure to use proper
size tires and wheels
Modification of the fuel, intake, exhaust, emission, suspension, engine, drive train or electrical wiring systems Modification of any onboard com- puter/control module, including repro- gramming, or replacing/adding chips toany onboard computer/control module

The installation of ac
cessories, optional
parts, etc., shoul
d only be performed
within the limits prescribed by law, and inaccordance with the
guidelines and warn-
ings contained within the documents accompanying this vehicle.Only Mitsubishi Motors approved acces- sories should be fitted to your vehicle. Improper installation of electrical parts could cause a fire. Re
fer to the “Modifica-
tion/alterations to the electrical or fuel systems” section with
in this owner’s man-
ual. Using a cellular phone or radio set inside the vehicle without an
external antenna
may cause electrical system interference, which could lead to unsafe vehicle opera- tion. Tires and wheels whic
h do not meet spec-
ifications must not be used.
Refer to the “Specifi
cations” section for
information regarding wheel and tiresizes.
Due to the large number of accessory and replacement parts provided by different man- ufacturers in the market, it is not always pos- sible for an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer to check whether the attachment or installation of non-Mitsubishi Motors genu- ine parts affects the driving safety of yourvehicle.
Installation of accessories
CAUTION Before any electrical or electronic accesso- ries are installed, cons
ult an authorized Mit-
subishi Motors dealer.
Your vehicle is equi
pped with a diagnosis
connector (data link c
onnector) for checking
and servicing the elec
tronic control system.
Mitsubishi Motors does not recommend con- necting a device other than the Scan Tool for inspections and servic
e to this connector
because an unexpected
problem could result.
In addition, malfuncti
ons caused by connect-
ing a device other than the Scan Tool maynot be covere
d under warranty.
CAUTION
WA R N I N GWhile driving, do not use a cellular phone in a way that hinders safe driving. Any-thing, including cellu
lar phone usage, that
distracts you from the safe operation of your vehicle increases you
r risk of an acci-
dent. Refer to and follow al
l state and local laws
in your area regarding cellular phoneusage while driving.

N00419201315
The curtain airbags are contained in the front pillar, the rear pillar and the side sections of the roof. The curtain airbag is designed to inflate only on the side of the ve
hicle that is impacted,
even with no passenger in the seat. Also, when the airbag control unit detects rollover of the vehicle, the curtain airbags will deploy.Curtain airbag system
WA R N I N G The side airbags and
curtain airbags can
cause serious injury
or death to anyone
too close to the airb
ag when it deploys. To
reduce the risk of in
jury from a deploying
side airbag or curtai
n airbag, dr
iver and
front passenger must be properlyrestrained and seated well back, upright, and in the middle of
the seat. Do not lean
against the door.WA R N I N G In order to reduce the risk of injury from a deploying side airb
ag, do not allow any
second row seat passengers to hold onto the back of either front seat. Special careshould be taken with children.
Do not place any objects around the area where the side airbags deploy. Suchobjects can interfere with proper side air-bag deployment, and
cause injury during
deployment of the side airbag. Do not place stickers, labels or additional trim on the back of either front seat. They can interfere with proper side airbagdeployment. Do not attach a microphone (A) or any other object around the part where the curtain airbag (B) depl
oys, such as on the
windshield, side door glass or front andrear pillars and roof
side rail. When the
curtain airbag inflates
, the microphone or
other object may be
hurled with great
force or the curtain airbag may not inflate correctly, resulting in death or serious injury.WA R N I N G

For information on operations for vehicles equipped with the Free-hand Advanced Secu-rity Transmitter (F.A.S.T.-key), refer to “Free-hand Advanced Se
curity Transmitter
(F.A.S.T.-key): Electronic immobilizer (Anti-theft starting system)” on page 5-29. [Except for vehicles equipped with the Free- hand Advanced Security Transmitter (F.A.S.T.-key)]The electronic immobilize
r is designed to sig-
nificantly reduce the
possibility of vehicle
theft. The purpose of the system is to immo- bilize the vehicle if
an invalid start is
attempted. A valid st
art attempt can only be
achieved (subject to ce
rtain conditions) using
a key “registered” to the immobilizer system. All of the keys provided with your new vehi-cle have been program
med to the vehicle’s
electronics.
• Do not leave where it may be exposed to heat caused by
direct sunlight, such as on
top of the dashboard. • Do not take the remote control transmitter apart. • Do not excessively be
nd the key or subject
it to strong impacts. • Keep the remote control transmitter dry. • Keep away from magnetic objects such as key rings. • Keep away from devi
ces that produce mag-
netism, such as audio systems, computers and televisions. • Keep away from devices that emit strong electromagneti
c waves, such as cellular
phones, wireless devices and high fre- quency equipment (i
ncluding medical
devices). • Do not clean with
ultrasonic cleaners.
• Do not leave the key where it may be exposed to high temperature or high humid- ity.
If you lose your key, to prevent the theft of the vehicle immediatel
y contact an autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. If you notify an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer of the key number, they canmake a new key. The key number is stamped on the key number plate. Keep the key num- ber plate in a safe pl
ace separate from the
key itself.NOTE
No keys other than those registered in advance can be used
to start the engine.
Refer to “Electronic immobilizer (Anti-theftstarting system)” on page 5-4. Refer to “Free-hand
Advanced Security
Transmitter (F.A.S.T.-key): “Electronicimmobilizer (Anti-thef
t starting system)” on
page 5-29. When the theft-alarm is in the system opera- tional status, the alarm operates if a door or liftgate is opened after using the key, thedoor lock knob or the power door lock switch to unlock the vehicle. The system does not enter the preparation status if the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation was not used to lockthe vehicle.
Electronic immobilizer (Anti-theft starting system)
CAUTION Do not make any altera
tions or additions to
the immobilizer system.
Alterations or addi-
tions could cause failur
e of the immobilizer.
NOTE
NOTE
In the following cases, the vehicle may not be able to recognize
the registered ID code
from the key. This mean
s the engine will not
start even when the key is turned to the “START” position.

a location with strong
electromagnetic
waves or noise
Use the emergency key to lock and unlock the driver’s door in such circumstances.Refer to “To operate
without using the
F.A.S.T.-key” on page 5-29. The F.A.S.T.-key is constantly performing reception opera
tions in its communication
with the vehicle. This means that the batteryis always running down, regardless of how often the F.A.S.T.-key is used. The battery life is approximately
1 to 3 years, depending
on the usage conditions. Since the F.A.S.T.-key is constantly perform- ing reception operati
ons, the reception of
strong electrom
agnetic waves
can accelerate
the running down of the ba
ttery. Do not place
near to electrical appliances such as televi- sions or computers.NOTE
