1. Park the vehicle in the shade whenever possible. Parking in the hot sun makes the vehicle interior extremely hot which thenrequires more time to cool. If it is neces- sary to park in the sun, open the windows for the first few minutes of air condition-ing to expel the hot air. 2. Afterwards, keep the windows closed when the air conditioner is in use. Theentry of outside air through open windows will reduce cooling efficiency.
Defrosting or defogging (wind- shield, door windows)

window glass and fog it
up.

3. When running the air conditioner, make sure the air intake, which is located infront of the windshield, is free of obstruc- tions such as leaves. Leaves collected in the air-intake chamber may reduce airflow and plug the water drains.
If the air conditioner seem

be a refrigerant leak.

The air conditioner should be operated for at least five minutes each week, even in cold weather. This includes the quick defrostingmode. Operating the

1. Park the vehicle on a safe, flat and level place. 2. Set the parking brake firmly.3. Move the selector
lever to the “P”
(PARK) position, and stop the engine. 4. Turn on the hazard warning lights and setup a warning sign, such as a warning tri- angle or flashing signal lamp, at an ade- quate distance from the vehicle, and haveall your passengers leave the vehicle. 5. Take out the tire repair kit. Make sure that the compressor switch isOFF.
6. Shake the tire sealant bottle well. 7. Take the valve cap (D) off the tire valve (E).
8. Unwind the bottle hose (F) from around the sealant bottle. 9. Pull out the compressor’s hose (G) from the bottom of the compressor and securely attach it to the valve (H) of the bottle byturning it clockwise until tight.
 Immediately wash clothes contaminated with tire sealant. The tire sealant may not beremoved from the clothes.NOTE
 Do not pull out an object, such as a nail or screw, that penetrat
es the punctured tire.

at the tire valve is
positioned away from the point where thetire touches the ground. If the valve is near the point where the tire touches the ground, the sealant may not enter the tire easily.  Check the tire sealant’

larly, and be sure to
purchase a new one from

17. After driving for 10 minutes or 3 miles (5
km), park the vehicl
e in a safe place.
Remove the air compressor from the stowed position. Check the tire pressureusing the air pressure gauge on the com- pressor. If the tire pressure has not dropped, the emergency repair procedureis complete. Proceed to step 19. If the tire pressure is insufficient, inflate the tire to the specified pressure again anddrive the vehicle carefully without exceeding a speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). Before driving, make sure that the com-pressor is stowed.
18. After driving for 10 minutes or 3 miles (5
km) again, check the tire pressure usingthe air pressure gauge on the compressor. If the tire pressure has not dropped, the emergency repair procedure is complete.Before driving, make sure that the com- pressor is stowed. You must still not exceed a speed of 50 mph (80 km/h).Observe local speed limits.

become longer than in

If this hap- pens, inflate the tire to the specified pressure once more, drive for approximately 10 min-utes or 3 miles (5 km), then check the tire pressure again. If the tire pressure has again dropped below the specified level, stop driv-ing the vehicle and contact an authorized Mitsubishi Moto

the converter. Normally, the catalyti
c converter does not
require maintenance. However, it is important to keep the engine properly tuned for the con- verter to continue to work properly. To reduce the possibili
ty of catalytic con-
verter damage:  Use UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY of the type of recommended in the “Fuelselection”.
 Do not drive with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of gas could damagethe catalytic converter.  Do not try to start the engine by pushing or towing the vehicle. If the battery isweak or run down, use jumper cables to properly start the engine.  Do not idle the engine with any spark plug wires disconnected or removed, such as when performing
diagnosti
c tests.
 Do not idle the engine
for a long time if it
is idling roughly or otherwise obviously malfunctioning. To prevent the catalytic converter from being damaged from unburned gas, do not race the engine when turning off the igni-tion switch.  Stop driving the vehicle if you think the performance is noticeably low, or theengine has a malfunction such as with the ignition, etc. If you are not able to stop driving immediately,
slow down and drive
for only a short time. Have your vehicle checked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice as soon
as possible.
 In unusual situations involving major engine problems, a burning odor mayindicate severe a
nd abnormal catalytic
converter overheating. If this occurs, stop in a safe place, shut
the engine off and let
the vehicle cool. Once the engine is cool, immediately take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your
choice for service.

Check the fluid level in the reservoir. The fluid level must be between the “MAX” and “MIN” marks on the reservoir. The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads, but this
does not indicate any
abnormality.If the fluid level falls se
aled tight in a short
length of time, it indi
cates leaks from the
brake system.If this occurs, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
Use the recommended brake fluid conform- ing to DOT 3 or DOT 4. The reservoir cap must be tightly sealed to keep dirt and waterout.

The condition of the battery is very important for quick starting and to keep the vehicle’s electrical system working properly. Check thebattery regularly. If battery performance is suspect, have the battery and charging system tested by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. The electrolyte level
must be between the
limits shown on the outside
of the battery. Fill
it with distilled water
as needed. The inside of
the battery is divided into several compart- ments. Take the cap off of each compartment and fill to the mark.

nk cap closed to keep
the brake fluid from evaporating.
Battery
NOTE
 After replacing the battery, the electronic control system data for the automatic trans-axle, etc., will be erased. As a result, shifting may be rough. Shifting will become smoother after severalchanges in speed.
