For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always check for the following:  Before starting the vehicle, make certain that you and all passengers are seated andwearing their seat
belts properly (with
children in the rear seat, in appropriate restraints), and that all the doors and theliftgate are locked.
 Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while keeping good visibility,and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls. Check the instrument panel indicators and multi-information display
for any possible prob-
lem.  Similarly, the front
passenger seat should
also be moved as fa
r back as possible.
 Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance with all laws and
regulations.
Check these by selecting the defroster mode, and set the blower swit
ch on high. You should

shield, door windows)” on page 7-13 Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns. Look for stones, nails,glass, or other objects
stuck in the tread. Look
for any tread cuts or
sidewall cracks. Check
the wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires(including spare tire) for proper pressure.

pped with a tire pres-
sure monitoring system, there is a risk of damage to the tire inflation pressure sensorswhen the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, onl
y, be performed by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Have someone watch wh
ile you turn all the
exterior lights on and off. Also check the turn signal indicators and hi
gh-beam indicators on
the instrument panel. Check the ground under the vehicle after parking overnight, for
fuel, water, oil, or

Trailer lights and equipment must comply with federal, state,
and local regulations.
Check with your loca
l recreational vehicle
dealer for the requirements in your area, and use only equipment designed for your vehi- cle. Since lighting and wiring
vary by trailer type
and brand, you should have a qualified tech- nician install a suitable connector between thevehicle and the trailer.
Improper equipment or
installation can cause da
mage to your vehi-
cle’s electrical system
and affect your vehicle
warranty. Many states and Canadi
an provinces require
special outside mirrors when towing a trailer. Even if not required,
you should install spe-
cial mirrors if you ca
nnot clearly see behind
you, or if the trailer
creates a blind spot.
Ask your trailer sales or
rental agency if any
other items are recomm
ended or required for
your towing situation.
Towing a trailer requires a certain amount of experience. Before setting out for the open road, you’ll want to get to know your trailer. Acquaint
yourself with the feel of handling and braking with the added weight of the trailer. Alwayskeep in mind that the vehicle you are driving is now a good deal longer and not nearly as responsive as your vehicl
e is without a trailer.
Before you start, check the trailer hitch, safety chains, tires
and mirror adjustment.
Be sure your vehicle’s ti
res are inflated to the
cold inflation pressure listed in the manual. You’ll find these numbe
rs on the tire and
loading information placard at the sill of thedriver’s door. Refer to “Tire inflati
on pressures” on page
9-20. Stay at least twice as far behind the vehicle ahead as you would when driving your vehi- cle without a trailer.
This can help you avoid
situations that require
heavy braking and sud-
den turns.

WA R N I N G If you have a rear window open and you tow a trailer with
your vehicle, carbon
monoxide gas which
you cannot see or
smell could come into your vehicle. It can cause unconsciousness or death. Refer to“Exhaust system” on page 9-26. To maximize your safe
ty when towing a
trailer: Have your exhaust system inspected for leaks, and make necessary repairs beforestarting on your trip. Keep the rear windows closed.If exhaust does come into your vehicle through a window or
another opening,
drive with your front, main heating or cooling system on an
d with the blower on
any speed. This will
bring fresh, outside
air into your vehicle. Do not use recircula- tion because it only recirculates the air inside your vehicle. Refer to “Air selectionswitch” on page 7-9.

1. Park the vehicle on a safe, flat and level place. 2. Set the parking brake firmly.3. Move the selector
lever to the “P”
(PARK) position, and stop the engine. 4. Turn on the hazard warning lights and setup a warning sign, such as a warning tri- angle or flashing signal lamp, at an ade- quate distance from the vehicle, and haveall your passengers leave the vehicle. 5. Take out the tire repair kit. Make sure that the compressor switch isOFF.
6. Shake the tire sealant bottle well. 7. Take the valve cap (D) off the tire valve (E).
8. Unwind the bottle hose (F) from around the sealant bottle. 9. Pull out the compressor’s hose (G) from the bottom of the compressor and securely attach it to the valve (H) of the bottle byturning it clockwise until tight.
 Immediately wash clothes contaminated with tire sealant. The tire sealant may not beremoved from the clothes.NOTE
 Do not pull out an object, such as a nail or screw, that penetrat
es the punctured tire.

at the tire valve is
positioned away from the point where thetire touches the ground. If the valve is near the point where the tire touches the ground, the sealant may not enter the tire easily.  Check the tire sealant’
s expiration date regu-
larly, and be sure to
purchase a new one from
an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer before the expiration date.CAUTION
NOTE
 In cold conditions (w
hen the ambient tem-

10. Install the bottle onto the compressor. 11. Securely attach the bottle hose (F) to the
tire valve (E).
12. Pull out the compressor’s power cord (K),
insert the plug on the cord into the 12 Vpower outlet (L), and then turn the igni- tion switch or the operation mode to the ACC position. (Refer to “12 V power out-let” on page 5-221.) Turn ON the compressor switch (M) and inject all of the tire sealant and inflate thetire to the specified pressure. (Refer to “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-20.) If there is a gap between the tire andwheel, push the tread area toward the cen- ter of the wheel to close the gap before running the compressor.
NOTE
 When installing the bottle, align the projec- tion (I) on the bottle with the indentation (J) in the compressor.
CAUTION If the bottle hose is not attached securely, the tire sealant will leak out from the tire valveand the tire may not inflate to the specifiedpressure.
WA R N I N G Do not place your hand or fingers between the tire and wheel while inflating the tire. Your hand or fingers may become caughtbetween the tire and wheel.CAUTION The supplied compressor is designed only for inflation of
your vehicle tires.
The compressor is designed to run on a vehi- cle’s 12 V power supply.
Do not connect it to
any other power source. The compressor is not waterproof. If you use it in rain, make sure wa
ter does not get on it.

time with age even when they are not being used. It is recommended that tires over 6 years generally
be replaced even if
damage is not obvious.
CAUTION While the compact spare tire is stowed, the inflation pressure shoul
d be checked at least
once a month to assure that it remains at therecommended inflation pressure. See the tire and loading information placard attached to the driver’s door sill. Refer to “Tire and load-ing information placard” on page 11-3. Driving with an imprope
rly inflated tire can
cause an accident. If
you have no choice but
to drive with an under-inflated tire, keep your speed down and av
oid sudden steering
or braking, if possible. Inflate the tire to the correct pressure as soon as possible. Refer to “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-20. The compact spare tire should be used only temporarily. While th
e compact spare tire is
being used, the tire pr
essure monitoring sys-
tem will not function pr
operly. Have the tire
replaced or repaired at an authorized Mit-subishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice as soon as possible. Do not go over 50 mph (80 km/h) when driv- ing with the compact spare tire. Avoid sudden starting and braking when driving with the
compact spare tire.
Do not drive through automatic car washes and over obstacles that
could possibly dam-
age the underside of your vehicle. Becausethe compact spare tire is smaller than the original tire, there is less clearance between the ground and your vehicle.

1. Open the liftgate and use the bar to remove the cover (A) over the tire hangermounting bolt.
2. With the wheel nut wrench, loosen the tire hanger mounting bolt by
turning it coun-
terclockwise.
3. Lift up the section of the tire hanger (B) that is marked with the arrow in the illus-tration and remove it from the hook (C). Then lower it and remove the tire.
 Because the compact spare tire is designed only for your vehicle, do not use it on anyother vehicle. Do not put the compact spare tire on a differ- ent wheel, and do not put standard tires,snow tires, wheel covers
or trim rings on the
compact spare wheel. Otherwise, you could damage these parts or other parts on yourvehicle. Do not use tire chains with your compact spare tire. Using a chain could cause damage to your vehicle and loss of the chains.

CAUTION
CAUTION While checking the tire hanger, carefully loosen the tire hange
r mounting bolt. Loos-
ening it too much could pull out the hook and cause the compact spare tire to drop.
CAUTION When hooking or unhooking the tire hanger, be sure to hold the tire hanger firmly to pre- vent it from dropping on your foot.

5. Remove the wheel nuts with the wheel nut wrench, then take the wheel off.
6. Clean out any mud, etc. on the hub sur- face (F), hub bolts (G)
or in the installa-
tion holes (H) in the wheel, and then mount the spare tire.
7. Turn the wheel nut clockwise by hand to initially tighten them. Temporarily tighten the wheel nuts byhand until the flange parts of the wheel nuts make light contact with the wheel and the wheel
is not loose.
WA R N I N GStop jacking up the ve
hicle as soon as the
tire is raised off the ground. It is danger-ous to raise the ve
hicle any higher.
Do not get under your vehicle while using the jack. Do not bump the raised
vehicle or leave it
sitting on the jack for a long time. Bothare very dangerous. Do not use a jack except the one that came with your vehicle. The jack should not be used for any pur- pose other than to change a tire. No one should be
in your vehicle when
using the jack. Do not start or run
the engine while your
vehicle is on the jack. Do not turn the raised wheel. The tires that are still on the ground could turn and make your vehicle fall off the jack.CAUTION Handle the wheel carefully when changing the tire, to avoid scratching the wheel sur-face.
WA R N I N G Mount the wheel with the valve stem (I) facing outward. If you cannot see the valve stem (I), you
have installed the
wheel backwards. Operating the vehicle with the spare wheel installed backwards can cause vehicledamage and result
in an ac
cident.
