Under the Hood (P 618)
●Check engine oil, engine coolant, and windshield washer
fluid. Add when necessary.
●Check brake fluid and clutch* fluid.●Check the battery condition monthly.
aPull the hood release handle under the corner of the
dashboard.
bLocate the hood latch lever, push it to the side, and then
raise the hood. Once you have raised the hood slightly, you
can release the lever.
cWhen finished, close the hood and make sure it is firmly
locked in place.
Lights (P 635)
●Inspect all lights regularly.
Wiper Blades (P 643)
●Replace blades if they leave streaks
across the windshield.
Tires (P 646)
●Inspect tires and wheels regularly.●Check tire pressures regularly.●Install snow tires for winter
driving.

ENGINE START/STOP Button Operating Range
You can start the engine wh en the remote is inside
the vehicle.
If the battery of the remote is getting low, the engine
may not start when you push the ENGINE START/
STOP button. If the engine do es not start, refer to
the following link. 2 If the Remote Battery is Weak P. 676
The engine may also run if the remote is close to the
door or window, even if it is outside the vehicle.
ON mode:
The ENGINE START/STOP button is red when the
engine is running.

1. Remove the 20 A FR ACC SOCKET and 10 A
ACC fuses. These fuses are located in the
interior fuse box.

2.Remove the 10 A BACK UP fuse. This fuse is
located in the engine compartment fuse
box.
2 Engine Compartment Fuse Box P. 6923.Store the fuses in a safe place so you do not
lose them.
u Make sure to reinstall the fuses before
you start driving your vehicle.
4. Push the ENGINE START/STOP button
without depressing the clutch pedal.
u The ENGINE START/STOP button
blinks.
5. Touch the center of the ENGINE START/
STOP button with the H logo on the
remote while the ENGINE START/STOP
button is blinking.
u The ENGINE START/STOP button stop
blinking, then stays on.
6. Put the transmission into neutral.
7. Push the ENGINE START/STOP button
once without depressing the clutch pedal.
u Make sure the steering wheel does not

1. Make sure the parkin g brake is applied.
u The parking brake indicator (red) comes
on for 30 seconds when you pull up the
electric parking brake switch.
2. Check that the transmission is in neutral.
Then depress the brake pedal with your
right foot, and the clutch pedal with your
left foot.
u The clutch pedal must be fully depressed
to start the engine.
3. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button
without depressing the accelerator pedal.

You can turn the engine off when the vehicle is completely stopped.
1. Put the transmission into

• If the transmission is in neutral, press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
• If the transmission is in any gear other than neutral, depress the clutch pedal, then
press the ENGINE START/STOP button.

3. With the parking brake applied, release the brake pedal and gently depress the
accelerator pedal.
u Make sure the parking brake indicator (red) goes off.
■Hill start assist system
Hill start assist keeps the brake engaged br iefly to help prevent the vehicle from
rolling on inclines as you move your fo ot from the brake pedal to the accelerator.
Put the transmission into
(D, (S* or (L* when facing uphill, or (R when facing
downhill, then release the brake pedal.
Depress the clutch pedal, a nd put the transmission into
(1 when facing uphill, or (R
when facing downhill, then release the brake pedal.

The engine stops when th e transmission is taken out
of
( P before the ENGINE START/STOP button is
pressed. Follow the step 1 when starting to drive.
You can also release the parking brake by pressing
the electric parking brake sw itch while depressing the
brake pedal.
When facing downhill, you can start your vehicle
more smoothly by manually releasing it with the
electric parking brake switch than by releasing it with
the accelerator pedal.

1 Hill start assist system
Hill start assist may not prevent the vehicle from
rolling downhill on a very st eep or slippery slope, and
does not operate on small inclines.
Hill start assist is not a replacement for the parking
brake.
Hill start assist will operate even when VSA ® is
switched off.
