Check that the fuel cock (if
equipped) is in the off position and
that there are no fuel leaks.
Shift the transmission into gear (for
models with a manual transmis-
sion).
Secure the motorcycle with
tie-downs or suitable straps that
are attached to solid parts of the
motorcycle, such as the frame or
upper front fork triple clamp (and
not, for example, to rubber-mount-
ed handlebars or turn signals, or
parts that could break). Choose
the location for the straps carefully
so the straps will not rub against
painted surfaces during transport.
The suspension should be com-
pressed somewhat by the
tie-downs, if possible, so that the
motorcycle will not bounce exces-
sively during transport.

Shift pedalThe shift pedal is located on the left
side of the motorcycle. To shift the
transmission to a higher gear, move the
shift pedal up. To shift to the transmis-
sion to a lower gear, move the the shift
pedal down. (See page 6-2.)
The shift rod is equipped with a shift
sensor, which is part of the quick shift
system. The shift sensor reads up and
down movement, as well as the
strength of the input force when the
shift pedal is moved.TIPTo prevent unintended shifts, QSS is programmed to ignore unclear input
signals. Therefore, be sure to shift us-
ing quick and sufficiently forceful in-
puts.

tand be lowered while the transmission
is in gear.
Periodically check this system via the
following procedure.TIP
This check is most reliable if per-
formed with a warmed-up engine.
