Activating and deactivating the air
quality sensor*
The air quality sensor is part of the fully automa-ted Interior Air Quality System (IAQS).
The air quality sensor can be switched on or off.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view in the centerdisplay.
2.Tap Climate.
3.Select Air Quality Sensor to activate/deac-tivate the air quality sensor.

Passenger compartment air filter
All air entering the passenger compartmentthrough the climate control system intake is fil-tered.
Replacing the passenger compartment
filter
To maintain the high performance of the climatecontrol system, the filter must be replaced regu-larly. Follow Volvo's service schedule for recom-mended replacement intervals. When driving inareas with a lot of smog, dust, etc., the filter mayneed to be changed more frequently.
NOTE
There are two types of passenger compart-ment filters. Make sure that the correct filteris installed.

Air distribution
The climate system distributes incoming airthrough a number of vents in the passengercompartment.
Automatic and manual air distribution
When the auto-climate feature is on, air distribu-tion is regulated automatically. Air distribution canalso be controlled manually.
Adjustable air vents
Certain air vents in the vehicle are adjustable,which means they can be opened/closed and thedirection of the air flow from the vent can beadjusted.

Foot movement tailgate operation*
To make it easier to operate the tailgate whenyour hands are full, it can be opened and closedby moving your foot in a forward kicking motionunder the rear bumper.
The sensor is located to the left of center under the rearbumper18.
One of the vehicle's remote keys must be withinrange behind the vehicle (approx. 1 meter (3feet)) for opening and closing to be possible. Thisapplies even if the vehicle is unlocked in order toprevent the trunk lid from inadvertently openinge.g. at a car wash.
Foot movement operation
Kicking motion within the sensor's activation area.
–Make one slow forward kicking motion withyour foot under the left section of the rearbumper. Take a step back. Do not touch thebumper.
>A brief audible signal will be heard whenopening or closing is activated - the tail-gate will open/close.
If the tailgate is open, it will close19 whenthe foot motion sensor is activated.
If several opening attempts have been madewithout the remote key in range behind the vehi-cle, foot movement operation will not be availablefor a short period of time.
Do not keep your foot under the vehicle in a kick-ing motion. This may prevent activation.
Interrupting opening or closing with a foot
movement
–Make one slow forward kicking motion whilethe tailgate is opening or closing to stop itsmovement.
The remote key does not need to be within rangeof the vehicle to interrupt opening or closing.
If the tailgate stops near the closed position, itwill open the next time it is activated.
NOTE
There is a risk of reduced or lost function ifthere are large amounts of snow, ice, dirt, etc.on the rear bumper. Make sure to keep thebumper clean.
NOTE
Please note that the system could be inadver-tently activated in a car wash or similar if theremote key is within range.
Vehicle with skid plate accessory *
If the vehicle is equipped with skid plate, the sen-sor is located towards the left corner of thebumper.

To activate opening and closing using a footmovement on a vehicle with skid plate, make akicking motion from the side of the vehicle. Oneof the vehicle's remote keys must be within range(approx. 1 meter (3 feet)) for opening and closingto be possible.

Private Locking
The tailgate can be locked using the privatelocking function to prevent it from being opened,e.g. when the vehicle is left at a workshop orwith a valet.
The function button for privatelocking is located in the centerdisplay's Function view.Depending on the current sta-tus of the lock, PrivateLocking Unlocked or PrivateLocking Locked will be dis-played.

Driver support systems
The vehicle is equipped with a number of driversupport systems that can provide the driver withactive or passive assistance in various situations.
The systems can, for example, help the driver:
maintain a set speed
maintain a set time interval to the vehicleahead
help prevent a collision by warning the driverand applying the brakes
park the vehicle.
Some of the systems are standard and others areoptions. This also varies from market to market.

Speed-dependent steering wheelresistance
Speed-dependent power steering increases thesteering wheel resistance in pace with the vehi-cle's speed to give the driver an enhanced feel-ing of control and stability.
Steering may feel stiffer on highways. Whenparking and at low speeds, it will be easier tomove the steering wheel.
NOTE
In some situations, the power steering maybecome too hot and require temporary cool-ing – during such time the power steering willwork at reduced output and the steeringwheel may feel more difficult to move.
In parallel with the temporarily reduced steer-ing assistance, the driver display shows amessage as well as a STEERING WHEELsymbol.
WARNING
While the power steering is working atreduced power, the driver support functionsand systems with steering assistance are notavailable.
In such a situation, the driver display showsthe Power steering failure message, com-bined with a STEERING WHEEL symbol.

NOTE
The greater the vehicles' speed, thegreater the distance between them for aset time interval.
Only use the time intervals permitted bylocal traffic regulations.
The set time interval is also used by theAdaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assistfunctions.
WARNING
Only use a time interval suitable for thecurrent traffic conditions.
The driver should be aware that shorttime intervals give them limited time toreact and act to any unforeseen trafficsituation.

Distance Alert functionality may be reduced incertain situations.
WARNING
The radar sensor has a limited field ofvision. In some situations, it may detect avehicle later than expected or not detectother vehicles at all.
The radar sensor cannot cover all drivingsituations and traffic, weather and roadconditions.
The driver is responsible for maintaining asafe distance and speed and must inter-vene if the various driver support systemsdo not maintain a suitable speed or suita-ble distance to the vehicle ahead.
Maintenance of radar sensor componentsmay only be performed by a trained andqualified Volvo technician.
Strong sunlight, reflections from the roadsurface, strong lighting contrasts or usingsunglasses may make the warning light inthe windshield difficult to see. Poorweather or winding roads can affect theradar sensor's capacity to detect vehiclesahead.
A vehicle's size (e.g., a motorcycle) canalso affect the radar sensor's capacity todetect another vehicle. This may result inthe warning light illuminating at a shorter

distance than the one that has been setor not illuminating at all.
High speeds may also result in the warn-ing light illuminating at a shorter distancethan the one that has been set due tolimitations in the radar sensor's range.

Adaptive Cruise Control*
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC37) helps thedriver maintain a constant speed with a set timeinterval to the vehicle ahead.
Adaptive Cruise Control helps provide a morerelaxed driving experience on long trips on high-ways or long, straight roads with even trafficflows.
The camera/radar sensor measures the distance to thevehicle ahead38.
The driver sets a speed and a time interval to thevehicle ahead. If the camera/radar sensor detectsa slower-moving vehicle ahead, your vehicle'sspeed will be automatically adapted according tothe set time interval to that vehicle. When there
are no longer slower-moving vehicles ahead, thevehicle will return to the set speed.
WARNING
The Adaptive Cruise Control function issupplementary driver support intended tofacilitate driving and help make it safer –it cannot handle all situations in all traffic,weather and road conditions.
The driver is advised to read all sectionsin the Owner's Manual about this functionto learn of its limitations, which the drivermust be aware of before using the func-tion (see the link list at the end of thisarticle).
Adaptive Cruise Control is not a substi-tute for the driver's attention and judg-ment. The driver is always responsible forensuring the vehicle is driven in a safemanner, at the appropriate speed, with anappropriate distance to other vehicles,and in accordance with current trafficrules and regulations.

Adaptive Cruise Control regulates speed byaccelerating and braking. It is normal for thebrakes to emit a slight sound when they arebeing used to adjust speed.
Adaptive Cruise Control always attempts to regu-late speed smoothly. The driver must apply thebrakes in situations requiring immediate braking.For example, when there are great differences inspeed between vehicles or if the vehicle aheadbrakes suddenly. Due to limitations in the radarsensor, braking may occur unexpectedly or not atall.
Adaptive Cruise Control is designed to follow avehicle ahead in the same lane and maintain atime interval to that vehicle set by the driver. If theradar sensor does not detect a vehicle ahead, itwill instead maintain the speed set by the driver.This will also happen if the speed of the vehicleahead exceeds the set speed for your vehicle.
Adaptive Cruise Control can follow anothervehicle at speeds from a standstill up to200 km/h (125 mph).
WARNING
Adaptive Cruise Control is not a collisionavoidance system. The driver is alwaysresponsible and must intervene if the sys-tem fails to detect a vehicle ahead.
Adaptive Cruise Control does not brakefor people or animals and does not brakefor small vehicles, such as bikes andmotorcycles. Similarly, it does not brakefor low trailers, oncoming, slow-moving orstationary vehicles and objects.
Do not use Adaptive Cruise Control indemanding situations, such as in city traf-fic, at intersections, on slippery surfaces,with a lot of water or slush on the road, inheavy rain/snow, in poor visibility, onwinding roads, or on on/off ramps.
CAUTION
Maintenance of Adaptive Cruise Control com-ponents may only be performed by a work-shop – an authorized Volvo workshop is rec-ommended.

Adaptive Cruise Control utilizes approx. 40% ofthe vehicle's braking capacity. If a situationrequires more braking force than the AdaptiveCruise Control can provide, and if the driver doesnot apply the brakes, a warning light and audible
warning signal will be activated to alert the driverthat immediate action is required.
WARNING
Adaptive Cruise Control only issues a warningfor vehicles detected by its radar unit – thus, awarning may come after a delay or not at all.
Never wait for a warning. Apply thebrakes when necessary.
