Passenger compartment air filter
All air entering the passenger compartmentthrough the climate control system intake is fil-tered.
Replacing the passenger compartment
filter
To maintain the high performance of the climatecontrol system, the filter must be replaced regu-larly. Follow Volvo's service schedule for recom-mended replacement intervals. When driving inareas with a lot of smog, dust, etc., the filter mayneed to be changed more frequently.
NOTE
There are two types of passenger compart-ment filters. Make sure that the correct filteris installed.

Air distribution
The climate system distributes incoming airthrough a number of vents in the passengercompartment.
Automatic and manual air distribution
When the auto-climate feature is on, air distribu-tion is regulated automatically. Air distribution canalso be controlled manually.
Adjustable air vents
Certain air vents in the vehicle are adjustable,which means they can be opened/closed and thedirection of the air flow from the vent can beadjusted.

Air distribution can be adjusted manually if nee-ded.

1.Open Climate view in the center display.
2. Tap one or more air distribution buttons toopen/close the airflow for that vent.

Opening, closing and directing airvents
Some of the air vents in the passenger compart-ment can be individually opened, closed anddirected.
Misting can be eliminated by directing the outerair vents towards the door windows.
Direct the outer air vents into the passengercompartment to maintain a comfortable tempera-ture in warm weather.

If all air distribution buttons are deselected in manual mode, the climate control system will revert to automatic mode.
Main airflow from defroster vents. Some airflow from other vents. Helps remove ice and condensation in cold and humid weather(blower speed should not be set too low).
Main airflow from dashboard vents. Some airflow from other vents. Provides effective cooling in warm weather.

Lock indication
When the vehicle is locked or unlocked, the turnsignals will flash to indicate that the vehicle hasbeen locked or unlocked correctly.
Exterior confirmation
Locking
The turn signals will flash once and the door
mirrors will fold in1 to confirm the vehicle islocked.
Unlocking
The turn signals will flash twice and the door
mirrors will fold out1 to confirm the vehicle isunlocked.
All doors, trunk lid and hood must be closed forconfirmation to be given. If only the driver's door
is closed when the vehicle is locked2, the vehiclewill be locked but the turn signals will only flashto indicate locking when all doors and the hoodand trunk lid have been closed.
Lock and alarm indicator
The locks and alarm indicator on the dashboard will dis-play the status of the locking system.
A long flash indicates that the vehicle is locked.When the vehicle is locked, this will be indicatedby short, pulsing flashes.
Other indicators
The home safe lighting and approach lightingfunctions also indicate when the vehicle is lockedor unlocked.
Lock button indicators
Front door
Lock buttons with indicator lights in front door.
Illuminated indicator lights in both front door lockbuttons indicate that all doors are locked. If anydoor is opened, the lights in both doors will goout.

Locking using the front door buttons
–Press the button (both front doors mustbe closed).
> All doors and the trunk lid will lock.
Locking using the rear door button *
Button with indicator light for locking/unlocking in reardoor.
The lock buttons in the rear doors only lock/unlock that particular door.
Unlocking the rear door
1. Pull the opening handle to unlock the reardoor.
2. Pull the opening handle again to open the

Unlocking the trunk lid from insidethe vehicle
The trunk lid can be unlocked from the insideusing a button on the dashboard.

Press the button on the dashboard.
> The trunk lid will unlock and can beopened from the outside by pressing therubberized pressure plate on the handle.
2.With the optional power trunk lid* -
Press and hold the button on the dash-board.
> The trunk lid will open.

–Press the button on the lower edge ofthe trunk lid to close and simultaneously lockboth the trunk lid and doors (all doors mustbe closed in order to lock).
> The trunk lid closes automatically – thetrunk lid and doors lock, and the alarm* isarmed.
NOTE
One of the vehicle's remote keys must bewithin range for locking and unlocking tobe possible.
When the keyless locking or closing* func-tions are used, three audible signals willsound if the key is not detected closeenough to the tailgate.
CAUTION
When operating the trunk lid manually, openand close it slowly. If you encounter resis-tance, do not use force. This could lead todamage and loss of function.
Interrupting closing
Interrupt closing by doing one of the following:
Press the button on the dashboard.
Press the button on the remote key.
Press the close button on the underside ofthe trunk lid.
Press the rubberized pressure plate on theunderside of the tailgate's outer handle.
Using a foot movement*.
The trunk lid will stop closing and return to itsfully open position. The trunk lid can then beopened or closed manually.
Pinch protection
If anything obstructs the tailgate with enoughforce to prevent it from closing, pinch protectionwill be activated.
When closing - the trunk lid will stop andthen return to its fully open position. A longaudible signal will sound.
WARNING
Be aware of the risk of serious injury whenoperating the trunk lid. Before closing, makesure that no one is in the path of the tailgatewho could be injured by its movement.
Always operate the trunk lid with caution.

Alarm
The alarm emits sound and light signals if any-one without a valid remote key attempts to breakinto the vehicle or interferes with the start batteryor alarm siren.
When armed, the alarm will be triggered if:
the hood, trunk lid or any door is opened.
a battery cable is disconnected.
the alarm siren is disconnected.
Alarm signals
The following occurs if the alarm is triggered:
A siren will sound for 30 seconds or until thealarm is turned off.
All turn signals will flash for 5 minutes oruntil the alarm is turned off.
If the reason the alarm was triggered is not recti-
fied, the alarm cycle will repeat up to 10 times20.
Alarm indicator
A red indicator light on the dashboard shows thestatus of the alarm:
Indicator off - the alarm is disarmed.
Indicator flashes once every two seconds -the alarm is armed.
The indicator flashes quickly after the alarmhas been disabled for up to 30 seconds oruntil the ignition is put in I mode – the alarmhas been triggered.
In the event of alarm system failure
If a problem is detected in the alarmsystem, a symbol and the messageAlarm system failure Servicerequired will appear in the instrumentpanel. Contact a workshop - an authorized Volvoworkshop is recommended.
NOTE
Do not attempt to repair or alter any of thecomponents in the alarm system yourself. Anysuch attempt could affect the terms and con-ditions of your insurance policy.
