NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the engine and its components
● Do not let the indicator needle of the tachometer enter the red zone, which
indicates the maximum engine speed.
● The engine may be overheating if the engine coolant temperature gauge is
in the red zone (H). In this case, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe
place, and check the engine after it has cooled completely. ( P. 557)
■ Vo l t m e t e r
When the voltmeter indicates 19 V or higher or 9 V or lower whi le the engine
is running, there may be a battery or charging system malfunction. Have the
vehicle inspected at your Toyota dealer.
■ Engine oil pressure gauge
When the value of the engine oil pressure gauge drops while the engine is
running, stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately and check the amount
of engine oil. ( P. 462)
When the oil pressure drops even though the engine oil amount h as not
decreased, or if the oil pressure does not increase when engine oil is
added, contact your Toyota dealer, as there may be a problem wi th the lubri-
cation system.

Items displayed can be switched by operating up and down.
■Front tire angle (if equipped)
Displays the direction of the front tires.
The tire direction is displayed in 3 stages for both left and r ight, in
accordance with the angle of the tire.
If a battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected, the disp lay may
be disabled temporarily. After driving the vehicle for a while, the display
will be enabled.
■
Tire inflation pressure
Displays inflation pressure of each tire
The inflation pre ssure of the spare tire will be displayed.
■Oil maintenance
Displays the remaining distance before the next maintenance is
required.
The settings of some features can be changed by using the meter
control switches.
■Setting procedure On the setting screen, choose the desired item using , and
then press .
• For functions that can be enabled or disabled, the function switchesbetween on and off each time is pressed.
• For functions that allow to select operation contents, display con-
tents, etc., the setting screen is displayed.
Select the desired setting by operating , and then press
.
To stop the selection, press to return to the previous screen.

Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
●Working from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicl e
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any di rt
and dust.
● Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
● For hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thoroughl y
with water.
● Wipe away any water.
● Wax the vehicle when the wate rproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the v ehicle
body is cool.
■ Automatic car washes
●Fold the mirrors back before washing the vehicle. Start washing from the
front of the vehicle. Make sure to extend the mirrors before dr iving.
● Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle su rface and
harm your vehicle’s paint.
● Rear spoiler (if equipped) may not be washable in some automati c car
washes. There may also be an increased risk of damage to vehicl e.
■ High pressure car washes
●Do not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close p roximity of
the windows.
● Before using the car wash, check that the fuel filler door on y our vehicle is
closed properly.
■ Wheels (Including surrounding parts)
●Remove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent.
● Wash detergent off with water immediately after use.
● To protect the paint from damage, make sure to observe the following pre-
cautions.
• Do not use acidic, alkaline or abrasive detergent
• Do not use hard brushes
• Do not use detergent on the wheels when they are hot, such as after driv-
ing or parking in hot weather
■ Bumpers and side moldings
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in
prime condition:

■To prevent paint deterioration an d corrosion on the body and compo-
nents (aluminum wheels etc.)
● Wash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on the paint surface
• If you see dead insects, insect droppings or bird droppings on the paint
• After driving in an area contaminated with soot, oily smoke, mine dust, iron powder or chemical substances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled in dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the pai nt surface
● If the paint is chipped or scratched, have it repaired immediat ely.
● To prevent the wheels from corroding, remove any dirt and store in a place
with low humidity when storing wheels.
■ Cleaning the exterior lights
● Wash carefully. Do not use organic substances or scrub with a h ard brush.
This may damage the surfaces of the lights.
● Do not apply wax on the surfaces of the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the lenses.
■ When using an automatic car wash (vehicles with rain-sensing wi nd-
shield wiper)
Turn off the wiper switch.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wipers may operate and th e wiper
blades may be damaged.
■ When using a high pressure car wash
Do not bring the nozzle tip close to boots (rubber or resin man ufactured
cover), connectors or the following parts. The parts may be damaged if they
come into contact with high-pressure water.

When trouble arises
7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If you think something is wrong
●Fluid leaks un der the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning a fter use is normal.)
● Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
● Engine coolant temperature gauge needle continually points high er
than normal
● Engine oil pressure gauge contin ually points lower than normal.
● Voltmeter continually points higher or lower than normal.
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the engine
● Engine missing, stumb ling or running roughly
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one s ide when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touch es
the floor
If you notice any of the followi ng symptoms, your vehicle proba -
bly needs adjustment or repair. Contact your Toyota dealer as
soon as possible.

When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punctured.
If a tire is punctured:

If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the engine switch off then turn it to IGNITION ON mode. Ch eck if the
tire pressure warning light comes on or flashes.
If the tire pressure wa rning light comes on
After the temperature of the tires has lowered sufficiently, ch eck the
inflation pressure of each tire and adjust them to the specifie d level.
If the warning light does not turn off even after several minut es have
elapsed, check that the inflation pressure of each tire is at t he specified
level and perform initialization. (P. 4 7 4 )
If the warning light does not turn off even after several minut es have
elapsed, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immed iately.
If the tire pressure warning light flashes for 1 minute then st ay on
There may be a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. Have
the vehicle inspected by you r Toyota dealer immediately.
■The tire pressure warning light may turn on due to natural caus es
The tire pressure warning light may turn on due to natural caus es such as
natural air leaks or tire inflation pressure changes caused by tempera-
ture. In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warn-
ing light (after a few minutes).
■When a tire is replace d with a spare tire
The spare tire is also equipped with the tire pressure warning valve and
transmitter. The tire pressure warning light will turn on if the tire inflation
pressure of the spare tire is low. If a tire goes flat, even th ough the flat tire
is replaced with the spare tire, the tire pressure warning light does not
turn off. Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adj ust the proper
tire inflation pressure. The tire pressure warning light will t urn off after a
few minutes.
