● In the following situations, the engine will automatically restart if the engine
is stopped by the Stop & Start system. (To enable stopping the engine by
Stop & Start system, drive the vehicle.)
• The air conditioning system is turned on.
• Vehicles with automatic air conditioning system: is turned on.
• The steering wheel is being operated.
• Vehicles with automatic transmission: The shift lever is shifted to a posi-
tion other than D, S or P.
• Vehicles with manual transmission: The shift lever is shifted to a position
other than N
• The driver’s seat belt is unfastened.
• The driver’s door is opened.
• The accelerator pedal is depressed.
• The Stop & Start cancel switch is pressed.
• The vehicle starts to roll on an incline.
Vehicles with automatic transmission: The engine may be stopped by Stop &
Start system automatically without driving the vehicle if the idling stop time is
set to “Long”. ( P. 382)
● In the following situations, the engine may automatically restart if the engine
is stopped by the Stop & Start system. (To enable stopping the engine by
Stop & Start system, drive the vehicle.)
• The brake pedal is pumped or strongly depressed.
• The air conditioning system is being used.
• The battery is not sufficiently charged.
Vehicles with automatic transmission: The engine may be stopped by Stop &
Start system automatically without driving the vehicle if the idling stop time is
set to “Long”. ( P. 382)
■ Hood
● If the hood is opened while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start sys-
tem, the engine will stall and will not be able to be restarted by the automatic
engine start function. In this case, restart the engine using the normal
engine starting procedure. ( P. 266, 269)
● Even if the hood is closed after the engine is started with the hood open, the
Stop & Start system will not operate. Close the hood, turn the engine switch to
the “LOCK” position (vehicles without smart entry & start system) or off (vehi-
cles with smart entry & start system), wait 30 seconds or more, and then start
the engine.

■ If an odor comes from the air conditioning system while the engine is
stopped by the Stop & Start system
Vehicles with manual air conditioning system:
If the idling stop time is set to “Long”, change the setting to “Normal”. If an
odor occurs even when “Normal” is selected, press the Stop & Start cancel
switch to deactivate the Stop & Start system.
Vehicles with automatic air conditioning system:
Press the Stop & Start cancel switch to deactivate the Stop & Start system.
■ Changing the idling stop time with the air conditioning system on
The length of time the Stop & Start system will operate when the air condition-
ing system is on can be changed by performing the following operation. (The
length of time the Stop & Start system will operate when the air conditioning
system is off cannot be changed.)
Use the meter control switches to select while the vehicle is stopped
and press , and select and press .
Select “Normal” or “Long”, and then press .
■ The Stop & Start system protection function
● When an excessively loud sound is being projected by the audio system,
the audio system may be automatically cut off in order to reduce battery
consumption. If this occurs, turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position
(vehicles without smart entry & start sy stem) or off (vehicles with smart entry
& start system), wait for 3 seconds or longer and then turn it to the “ACC” or
“ON” position (vehicles without smart entry & start system), or ACCES-
SORY mode or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart entry & start sys-
tem) to re-enable the audio system.
● The audio system may not be activated when the battery terminals are dis-
connected and then reconnected. If this occurs, turn the engine switch to
the “LOCK” position (vehicles without smart entry & start system) or off
(vehicles with smart entry & start system), and then repeat the following
operation twice to activate the audio system normally.
• Turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (vehicles without smart entry
& start system), or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart entry & start
system), and then to the “LOCK” position (vehicles without smart entry &
start system) or off (vehicles with smart entry & start system).

“Battery charging”
• The battery charge amount may be low.
 Engine stop is temporarily prohibited
to prioritize charging of the battery, but
if the engine is operated for a short
while, engine stop is allowed.
• A refresh charge may be occurring, such
as when the battery is undergoing a peri-
odic recharge, for a while after the battery
terminals have been disconnected and
reconnected, for a while after the battery
has been replaced, etc.
 After a refresh charge of approximately
5 to 60 minutes completes, the system
can be operated.
• The engine may have been started with
the hood opened.
 Close the hood, turn the engine switch
to the “LOCK” position (vehicles with-
out smart entry & start system) or off
(vehicles with smart entry & start sys-
tem), wait 30 seconds or more, and
then start the engine.
If the message is displayed continuously (60
minutes or more), the battery may have
deteriorated. Contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
“For brake
system”
• The vehicle is being driven in a high alti-
tude area.
• The brake booster vacuum is low.
 When the brake booster vacuum
reaches a predetermined level, the
system will be enabled.
“Driver seat belt
unbuckled”The driver seat belt is not fastened.
“Non-dedicated
battery”
A non-dedicated battery for the Stop & Start
system may have been installed.
 The Stop & Start system does not
operate. Have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer.

Winter driving tips
●Use fluids that are appropriate to the prevailing outside tempera-
tures.
• Engine oil
• Engine coolant
• Washer fluid
● Have a service technician inspect the condition of the battery.
● Have the vehicle fitted with four snow tires or purchase a set of tire
chains for the rear tires.
Ensure that all tires are the same size and brand, and that chains match
the size of the tires.
Perform the following according to the driving conditions:
● Do not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is frozen.
Pour warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe away
the water immediately to prevent it from freezing.
● To ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan,
remove any snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in
front of the windshield.
● Check for and remove any excess ice or snow that may have accu-
mulated on the exterior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassis, around the
tires or on the brakes.
● Remove any snow or mud from the bottom of your shoes before
getting in the vehicle.
Carry out the necessary preparations and inspections before
driving the vehicle in winter. Always drive the vehicle in a man-
ner appropriate to the prevailing weather conditions.

Audio system

■Using cellular phones
Interference may be heard through the audio system’s speakers if a cellular
phone is being used inside or close to the vehicle while the audio system is
operating.
NOTICE
■ To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the audio system on longer than necessary with the engine
stopped.
■ To avoid damaging the audio system
Take care not to spill drinks or other fluids over the audio system.

■EON (Enhanced Other Network) system (for traffic announcement func-
tion) (type B only)
If the RDS station (with EON data) you are listening to is not broadcasting a
traffic information program and the audio system is in the TA (traffic
announcement) mode, the radio will be switched automatically to a station
broadcasting a traffic information program in the EON AF list when traffic
information begins.
■ When the battery is disconnected
Stations presets are erased.
■ Reception sensitivity
● Maintaining perfect radio reception at all times is difficult due to the continu-
ally changing position of the antenna, differences in signal strength and sur-
rounding objects, such as trains, transmitters, etc.
● The radio antenna is mounted on the roof. The antenna can be removed
from the base by turning it.
NOTICE
■ To prevent damage, remove the antenna in the following cases
● The antenna will touch the ceiling of a garage.
● A cover will be put on the roof.
● When driving through an automatic car wash.
● Any other cases where there is a risk of touching surrounding parts.

■Conditions affecting operation
● The Bluetooth® audio/phone may not operate normally in the following situ-
ations:
• The portable player does not support Bluetooth®
• The cellular phone is located outside the service area
• The Bluetooth® device is switched off
• The Bluetooth® device has a low battery
• The Bluetooth® device is not connected to the system
• The Bluetooth® device is behind the seat or in the glove box or console
box, or metal material covers or touches the device
● This system is not guaranteed to operate with all Bluetooth® devices.

Be sure to initialize the system to prevent personal data from being improp-
