■ Warning lights
Warning lights inform the driver of malfunctions in any of the
vehicle’s systems. (  P. 395, 407)

: Vehicles without a smart key system
These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to the “O N”
position to indicate that a system check is being performed. Th ey
will turn off after the engine is started, or after a few secon ds. There
may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not come on, o r if
the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your To y o t a
dealer for details.
Vehicles with a smart key system
These lights turn on when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is
turned to IGNITION ON mode to indicate that a system check is
being performed. They will turn off after the engine is started , or
after a few seconds. There may be a malfunction in a system if a
light does not come on, or if the lights do not turn off. Have the vehi-
cle inspected by your Toyota dealer for details.

: The light flashes in yellow to indicate a malfunction. The light
flashes quickly in green to indicate that the steering lock has not
been released.

: The light comes on in yellow to indicate a malfunction. (Red)

■ Changing the display usi ng the “ODO/TRIP” switch
Each time the “ODO/TRIP” switch is pressed, the display changes as
follows.
Odometer Displays the total distance the vehicle has been driven.
Trip meter *1
Displays the distance the vehicle has been driven since the met er was
last reset. Trip meters A and B can be used to record and display different
distances independently.

: Pressing and holding the “ODO/TRIP” switch will reset the trip meter that
is currently displayed.*2

onds after a door is opened and closed if the engine switch is turned off.
(The lights turn off immediately if on the key is pressed after all the
doors are locked.)

the light switch off and then back to

an object is placed on the sensor, or any-
thing that blocks the sensor is affixed to
the windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight sys-
tem to malfunction.

■ Light reminder buzzer
Vehicles without a smart key system
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned to “LOCK” position and
the driver's door is opened with the key removed from the engin e switch
while the lights are turned on.
Vehicles with a smart key system
A buzzer sounds when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned o ff and
the driver's door is opened while the lights are turned on.
■ Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number
of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the
headlights do not interfere with other road users.
■ Battery-saving function
In the following conditions, the headlights and the other remai ning lights will
go off automatically after 20 minutes in order to prevent the v ehicle battery
from being discharged:
● The headlights and/or tail lights are on.
● The key is removed from the engine switch (vehicles without a s mart key
system) or the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned off (vehicl es with
a smart key system).
● The light switch is in or .
This function will be canceled in any of the following situations:
● When the engine switch is turned to the “ON” position (vehicles without a
smart key system) or the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned t o
IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with a smart key system)
● When the light switch is operated
● When the door is opened or closed
■ Customization that can be conf igured at your Toyota dealer

■ If no windshield washer fluid sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not blocked if there is washe r fluid in the
windshield washer fluid tank.
WARNING■ Caution regarding the use of washer fluid
When it is cold, do not use the washer fluid until the windshield becomes
warm. The fluid may freeze on the windshield and cause low visi bility. This
may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury. Washer/wiper dual opera-
tion The wipers will automatically
operate a couple of times after
the washer squirts.

When driving NOTICE■ When the windshield is dry
Do not use the wipers, as they may damage the windshield.
■ When the washer fluid tank is empty
Do not operate the switch continually as the washer fluid pump may over-
heat.
■ When a nozzle becomes blocked
In this case, contact your Toyota dealer.
Do not try to clear it with a pin or other object. The nozzle w ill be damaged.

When driving
Driving assist systems To help enhance driving safety and performance, the following sys-
tems operate automatically in response to various driving situa tions.
Be aware, however, that these systems are supplementary and
should not be relied upon too heavi ly when operating the vehicl e.
■ ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) Helps to prevent wheel lock when the brakes are applied suddenl y, o r i f
the brakes are applied while driving on a slippery road surface
■ Brake assist Generates an increased level of braking force after the brake pedal is
depressed when the system detects a panic stop situation
■ VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or turning
on slippery road surfaces
■ TRAC (Traction Control) Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spin-
ning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery road s.
The TRAC system is also equipped with the brake LSD function.
■ Hill-start assist control

When driving ■ Sounds and vibrations caused by the ABS, brake assist, TRAC and
VSC systems
● A sound may be heard from the engine compartment when the brake
pedal is depressed repeatedly, when the engine is started or ju st after the
vehicle begins to move. This sound does not indicate that a malfunction
has occurred in any of these systems.
● Any of the following conditions may occur when the above system s are
operating. None of these indicates that a malfunction has occur red.
• Vibrations may be felt through the vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard after the vehicle comes to a stop.
• The brake pedal may pulsate slightly after the ABS is activated.
• The brake pedal may move down slightly after the ABS is activa ted.
■ EPS operation sound
When the steering wheel is operated, a motor sound (whirring so und) may
be heard. This does not indicate a malfunction.
■ Automatic reactivation of TRAC and VSC systems
After turning the TRAC and VSC systems off, the systems will be automati-
cally reactivated in the following situations:
● Vehicles without a smart key system: When the engine switch is turned to
“LOCK” position
● Vehicles with a smart key system: When the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch is turned off
● If only the TRAC system is turned off, the TRAC will turn on when vehicle
speed is more than approximately 31 mph (50 km/h).
If both the TRAC and VSC systems are turned off, automatic reac tivation
will not occur when vehicle speed increases.
