WARNING:
. Radio waves couldadversely affectelectric
medical equipment. Thosewhouseapace-
maker should contact theelectric medical
equipment manufacturer forthe possible
influences beforeuse.
. The Intelligent Keytransmits radiowaves
when thebuttons arepushed. Theradio
waves mayaffect aircraft navigation and
communication systems.Donot operate the
Intelligent Keywhile onanairplane. Make
sure thebuttons arenot operated uninten-
tionally whentheunit isstored during a
flight.
The Intelligent Key system canoperate allthe door
(including theback door) locksusing theremote
controller functionorpushing therequest switchon
the vehicle without takingthekey outfrom apocket or
purse. Theoperating environment and/orconditions
may affect theIntelligent Key system operation. Be
sure toread thefollowing beforeusingthe
Intelligent Key system.
CAUTION:
. Besure tocarry theIntelligent Keywith you
when operating thevehicle.
. Never leavetheIntelligent Keyinthe vehicle
when youleave thevehicle.
The Intelligent Key isalways communicating withthe
vehicle asitreceives radiowaves. TheIntelligent Key
system transmits weakradiowaves. Environmental
conditions mayinterfere withtheoperation ofthe
Intelligent Key system underthefollowing operating
conditions.
. When operating nearalocation wherestrong
radio waves aretransmitted, suchasaTV tower,
power station andbroadcasting station.
. When inpossession ofwireless equipment, such
as acellular telephone, transceiver, andCBradio.
. When theIntelligent Key isin contact withor
covered bymetallic materials.
. When anytype ofradio wave remote controlis
used nearby .
. When theIntelligent Key isplaced nearanelectric
appliance suchasapersonal computer.
. When thevehicle isparked nearaparking meter.
In such cases, correct theoperating conditions before
using theIntelligent Key function oruse themechanical
key .
Although thelifeofthe battery variesdepending onthe
operating conditions, thebattery's lifeisapproximately
2 years. Ifthe battery isdischarged, replaceitwith a
new one.
For information regardingreplacement ofabattery ,see
ªIntelligent Key batteryº (P.8-20) . Since
theIntelligent Key iscontinuously receivingradio
waves, ifthe key isleft near equipment whichtransmits
strong radiowaves, suchassignals fromaTV and
personal computer, thebattery lifemay become
shorter.
Because thesteering wheelislocked electrically ,
unlocking thesteering wheelwiththeignition switchin
the ªLOCKº position isimpossible whenthevehicle
battery iscompletely discharged. Payspecial attention
that thevehicle batteryisnot completely discharged.
As many as4Intelligent Keys can beused withone
vehicle. Forinformation aboutthepurchase anduseof
additional IntelligentKeys, contact aNISSAN dealer.
CAUTION:
. Do not allow theIntelligent Key,which
contains electrical components, tocome
into contact withwater orsalt water. This
could affect thesystem function.
. Donot drop theIntelligent Key.
. Do not strike theIntelligent Keysharply
against another object.
. Donot change ormodify theIntelligent Key.
. Wetting maydamage theIntelligent Key.If
the Intelligent Keygets wet,immediately
wipe untilitis completely dry.
. Ifthe outside temperature isbelow

. Donot place theIntelligent Keynear equip-
ment thatproduces amagnetic field,suchas

ters.
If an Intelligent Key islost orstolen, NISSAN
recommends erasingtheIDcode ofthat Intelligent
K ey from thevehicle. Thismayprevent theunauthor-
ized useofthe Intelligent Key tooperate thevehicle.
For information regardingtheerasing procedure,
contact aNISSAN dealer.

tion mode. Ifthe fluid temperature becomestoohigh
(for example, whenclimbing steepgrades inhigh
temperature withheavy loads, suchaswhen towing a
trailer) ,engine powerand,under someconditions,
vehicle speedwillbedecreased automatically to
reduce thechance oftransmission damage.Vehicle

be shifted tothe selected drivingposition.
If the vehicle isdriven underextreme conditions,
such asexcessive wheelspinning andsubse-

activated. Thiswilloccur evenifall electrical
circuits arefunctioning properly.Inthis case,
place theignition switchinthe ªOFFº position
and wait for10seconds. Thenturntheignition
switch backtothe ªONº position. Thevehicle
should returntoits normal operating condition.
If itdoes notreturn toits normal operating
condition, haveaNISSAN dealercheckthe
transmission andrepair itifnecessary.
WARNING:
When thefail-safe operation occurs,vehicle
speed maybegradually reduced.Thereduced
speed maybelower thanother traffic,which
could increase thechance ofacollision. Be
especially carefulwhendriving. Ifnecessary, pull
to the side ofthe road atasafe place andallow
the transmission toreturn tonormal operation,
or have itrepaired ifnecessary.
