A tone and warning light are used to remind the driver to fasten the seat belt. If the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON without the driver’s seat belt being fastened, a warning light will come on and a tone willsound for approximately 6 seconds to remind you to fasten your seat belt. If the vehicle is driven with the seat belt stillunfastened, the warning light will blink and the tone will sound inte
rmittently until the
seat belt is fastened.
N00418300237
The front passenger seat
belt warning light is
located at shown in the illustration.
When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put inON, this indicator
normally comes on and
goes off a few seconds later. The light comes on when a person sits on thefront passenger seat bu
t does not fasten the
seat belt. It goes off when the seat belt is sub- sequently fastened.
Driver’s seat belt reminder/warning light
WA R N I N G In order to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in an
accident, always fas-
ten your own seat belt
. Do not allow any-
one to ride in your ve
hicle unless he or she
is also seated and fastening a seat belt. Children should additi
onally be restrained
in a secure child restraint system.NOTE
If the seat belt subse
quently remains unfas-
tened, the warning li
ght and the tone will
issue further warnings
each time the vehicle
starts moving from a stop.
Front passenger seat belt warn- ing light
WA R N I N G When a child booster se
at is used on the
front passenger seat, the front passenger seat belt warning ligh
t will not come on, if
the seat belt is not fastened when the booster seat is used
. Confirm that the
child is wearing the
seat belt properly.
Do not install any acce

5. Latch the tether strap hook (E) of the child restraint system to the anchor (F) as illus-trated below (5) and tighten the top tether strap so it is securely fastened. 6. Push and pull the chil
d restraint system in
all directions to en
sure it is firmly
secured.
N00407301595
With the exception of the driver, the seat belt in all other seating positions can be converted from normal Emergency Locking Retractor(ELR) mode, to Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode. This mean
s that when you pull
the seat belt fully out of the retractor, the retractor will switch to its ALR child restraint installation function.
Always use the ALR
child restraint instal
lation function when you
install a child restraint system using the seat belt. Children 12 years old and under should always be restrained in the rear seat, when- ever possible, although the front passenger seat belt can also be
converted to ALR mode.
WA R N I N GChild restraint system tether anchors are designed only to with
stand loads from cor-
rectly fitted child restraint systems. Underno circumstances are they to be used for adult seat belts, harnesses, or for attach- ing other items or eq
uipment to the vehi-
cle.
Installing a child restraint sys- tem using the seat belt (with emergency/automatic locking mechanism)
WA R N I N G When you install a child restraint system using the seat belt, al
ways make sure the
retractor has been switched to the ALRchild restraint installation function. The ALR function will keep the child restraint system tightly secured to the seat.Failure to convert the retractor to the ALR function may allow the child restraint system to move forward duringsudden braking
or an accide
nt, resulting
in serious injury or
death to the child or
other occupants. Never remove the buck
le (A) for the rear
center seat from the rubber belt (B). If thebuckle is detached from the rubber belt, the ALR mode may become deactivated and a child restraint system used in therear center seat position may not be secured, resulting in serious injury or death to a child using the child restraintsystem and/or othe
r occupants. Always
make sure that the buckle is passed under the rubber belt as shown in the illustrationbelow.

you are driving.
To ensure that the passenger’s seat occu- pant classification sensor system can sense correctly, observe the following instruc-tions. Failure to follow these instructions can adversely affect
the performance of
the passenger’s airbag system.• Adjust the seat to the correct position, and sit well back
against the seatback.
Refer to “Front seats” on page 4-2.• Do not recline the seatback more thannecessary.• Never have more than one person (adultor child) sitting

Advanced automobile manufacturing tech- niques permit you to operate your new vehi- cle without requiring
a long break-in period
of low-speed driving. However, you can add to the future perfor- mance and economy of your vehicle byobserving the followi
ng precautions during
the first 300 miles (500 km). Drive your vehicle at moderate speeds during the break-in period. Avoid revving the engine. Avoid rough driving such as sudden starts, sudden acceleration, prolonged high- speed driving and sudden braking. These would have a detrimen
tal effect on the
engine and also cause increased fuel and oil consumption, wh
ich could result in
malfunction of the engine components. Beparticularly careful to
avoid full accelera-
tion while in low shift position (low gears). Do not overload the ve
hicle. Stay within
the seating capacity. (Refer to “Cargo load precautions” on page 6-10.) Do not use this vehi
cle for trailer towing.

NOTE
Your vehicle is equippe
d with an electronic
immobilizer. To start the engine, the ID codewhich the F.A.S.T.-key sends must match the one registered to the immobilizer computer. (Refer to “Electronic immobilizer (Anti-theftstarting system)” on page 5-20)
Changing the operation mode
CAUTION When the engine is not running, put the oper- ation mode in OFF. Leaving the operationmode in ON or ACC for a long time when the engine is not r
unning may cause the bat-
tery to be discharged, making it impossibleto start the engine. When the battery is disconnected, the current operation mode is memorized. After recon- necting the battery, the memorized mode is selected auto
matically. Before disconnect-
ing the battery for repair or replacement, make sure to put the
operation mode in OFF.
Be careful if you are not sure which opera-tion mode the vehicle is
in when the battery
is run down. The operation mode cannot be changed from OFF to ACC or ON if the F.A.S.T.-key is not detected to be in the
vehicle. Refer to “Oper-
ating range for starting the engine and changing the operation mode” on page 5-11.
