RIfthe EmergencyTensioning Devices,seat belt anchorages or seat beltretrac‐torshavebeen modified
Seat belts may be damaged in an accident,althoughthe damage may not be visible, e.g.duetosplinters ofglass.
Modified or damaged seat belts maytear orfail, e.g. in an accident.
Modified EmergencyTensioning Devices canaccidentally trigger orfailtofunction asintended.
Never modifythe seat belts, EmergencyTensioning Devices, seat belt ancho‐rages or seat beltretractors.
Makesurethatthe seat belts areundamaged, notwornand clean.
Always havethe seat beltscheckedimmediately after an accident at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Only use seat belts which havebeen approvedforyourvehiclebyMercedes-Benz.
\nWARNINGRisk of injuryor death fromdeployedpyrotechnic EmergencyTen‐sioning Devices
Pyrotechnic EmergencyTensioning Devicesthat havebeen deployed are no longer opera‐tional and are unabletoperformtheir inten‐ded protective function.
Therefore, havedeployedpyrotechnicEmergencyTensioning Devices immedi‐atelyreplaced at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Mercedes-Benzrecommendsthatyou havethevehicletowedtoaqualified specialistworkshopafter an accident.
NOTEDamagecausedbytrappingtheseat belt
If an unused seat belt is not fullyretracted, itmay become trapped inthe door or intheseat mechanism.
Always ensurethat an unused seat beltis fullyretracted.
Extending/retractingthe seat beltextender
The seat beltextenderforthe front seat helpsyoufastenyour seat belt. Whenthe door isclosed,the seat beltextenderextends.
Mercedes-AMGvehicles:observethe notes inthe Supplement. Otherwise,you mayfailtorec‐ognize dangers. The seat beltextender button isnotavailable in Mercedes-AMGvehicles.
You can alsoextendthe seat beltextender usingthe seat beltextender button.

Switch onthe ignition.
Press seat beltextender button1.The seat beltextenderextends.
The seat beltextenderretracts again inthefol‐lowing cases:
RThe seat belttongue is engaged inthe seatbelt buckle
RThe seat belttongue is not engaged intheseat belt buckle within 60 seconds
Ifyou press seat beltextender button1again inthis case,the seat beltextender willextend again.
RTherespective door is opened
RYoufoldthe seat backrestforwards
RNobody is sitting inthe front passenger seat
Ifyou press seat beltextender button1again inthis case,the seat beltextender willno longerextend.
The seat beltextender mustalways beretractedwhilethevehicle is in motion.
Fastening seat belts
Ifthe seat belt is pulledquickly or sharply,theseat beltretractor locks. The seat beltstrap can‐not be pulled out any further.
Always engage seat belttongue2oftheseat belt into seat belt buckle1ofthe cor‐responding seat.

Ifthe seat belttongue is engaged inthe seatbelt buckle ofthe unoccupied frontpassenger seat,the EmergencyTensioningDevice andthe side air bag may also deployintheevent of an accident along withothersystems.
Only one person should use each seatbelt at any one time.

Seat belt adjustment function
Vehicles with PRE-SAFE®:Ifthe front seat beltis not pulled tight acrossyour body,the seat beltadjustment may automatically apply a certaintighteningforce. Do not holdthe seat belt tightlywhile it is adjusting.
You can activate and deactivatethe seat beltadjustment function usingthe multimedia sys‐tem (→page 38).
Releasing seat belts
Presstherelease button inthe seat beltbuckle and guidethe seat belt back withtheseat belttongue.

Ifthe seat belt isreleased whilethevehicle isin motion,thechildrestraint system is nolonger correctly secured. Thechild seatsafetyfeature is deactivated andthe seatbelt is drawn in a bitbythe inertiareel.
It istherefore not possibletoengagethe seatbelt again.
Pullover andstopthevehicle safely assoon as possible, paying attentiontoroad and traffic conditions.
Activatethechild seat safetyfeatureagain and correctly securethechildrestraint system.
When enabled,the special seat beltretractorensuresthatthe seat belts ofthe frontpassenger seat andrear seats do not slackenoncethechildrestraint system is secured.
The seat belts onthefollowing seats are equip‐ped with a special seat beltretractor:
RFront passenger seat
RRear seats
Toinstall achildrestraint system:wheninstalling achildrestraint system, alwaysobservethe manufacturer's installation andoperating instructions aswell asthe informa‐tion inthis Operator's Manual.Pullthe seat belt smoothly fromthe seat beltoutlet.
Engagethe seat belttongue inthe seat beltbuckle.Toactivatethe special seat beltretrac‐tor:pullthe seat belt out fully and lettheinertiareelretract it again.Whenthe special seat beltretractor is activa‐ted,you should hear aratcheting sound.
Pushthechildrestraint system down untilthe seat belt sits tightly.Todeactivate the special seat beltretrac‐tor:presstherelease button ofthe seat beltbuckle.
Holdthe seat belttongue and guide backtothe seat belt outlet.
InstallingtheLATCH-type (ISOFIX)childrestraint system ontherear seat
InstallingtheLATCH-type (ISOFIX)childrestraint system ontherear seat
\nWARNINGRisk of injuryiftherearbenchseat/rear seat and seat backrestare not engaged
Iftherear benchseat/rear seat and seatbackrest are not engagedtheycouldfoldfor‐wards, e.g. when braking suddenly or intheevent of an accident.
RIfthis isthe case,thevehicle occupantwould beforced intothe seat beltbytherear benchseat/rear seat orbythe seatbackrest. The seat belt cannotprotect asintended and couldresult in additionalinjury.
