3877-2. Steps to take in an emergency
7
When trouble arises
coolant is unavailable.
6Start the engine and turn the air
conditioning system on to check
that the radiator cooling fan oper-
ates and to check for coolant leaks
from the radiator or hoses.
The fan operates when the air conditioning
system is turned on immediately after a
cold start. Confirm that the fan is operating
by checking the fan sound and air flow. If it
is difficult to check these, turn the air con-
ditioning system on and off repeatedly.
(The fan may not operate in freezing tem-
peratures.)
7If the fan is not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and
contact your Lexus dealer.
If the fan is operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the
nearest Lexus dealer.
8
Check if “Engine Coolant Temp
High Stop in a Safe Place See
Owner’s Manual” is shown on the
multi-information display.
If the message does not disappear:
Stop the engine and contact your
Lexus dealer.
If the message is not displayed:
Have the vehicle inspected at the
nearest Lexus dealer.
WARNING
■To prevent an accident or injury when
inspecting under the hood of your
vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious
injury such as burns.
●If steam is seen coming from under the
hood, do not open the hood until the
steam has subsided. The engine com-
partment may be very hot.
●Keep hands and clothing (especially a
tie, a scarf or a muffler) away from the
fan and belts. Failure to do so may
cause the hands or clothing to be
caught, resulting in serious injury.
●Do not loosen the coolant reservoir
cap while the engine and radiator are
hot.
High temperature steam or coolant
could spray out.
NOTICE
■When adding engine coolant
Add coolant slowly after the engine has
cooled down sufficiently. Adding cool
coolant to a hot engine too quickly can
cause damage to the engine.
■To prevent damage to the cooling sys-
tem
Observe the following precautions:
●Avoid contaminating the coolant with
foreign matter (such as sand or dust,
etc.).
●Do not use any coolant additive.
3928-1. Specifications
■Oil capacity (Drain and refill [Ref-
erence*])
*: The engine oil capacity is a reference quantity to be used when changing the
engine oil. Warm up and turn off the
engine, wait more than 5 minutes, and
check the oil level on the dipstick.
■Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in
your Lexus vehicle. Use Lexus
approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil”
or equivalent to satisfy the following
grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: API SN/RC multigrade
engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-16
SAE 0W-16 is the best choice for good
fuel economy and good starting in cold
weather.
If SAE 0W-16 is not available, SAE
0W-20 oil may be used. However, it
must be replaced with SAE 0W-16 at
the next oil change.
Outside temperature Oil viscosity (0W-16 is explained here
as an example):
• The 0W in 0W-16 indicates the
characteristic of the oil which allows
cold startability. Oils with a lower
value before the W allow for easier
starting of the engine in cold
weather.
• The 16 in 0W-16 indicates the vis- cosity characteristic of the oil when
the oil is at high temperature. An oil
with a higher viscosity (one with a
higher value) may be better suited if
the vehicle is operated at high
speeds, or under extreme load con-
ditions.
How to read oil container label:
API registered marks is added to some
oil containers to help you select the oil
you should use.

If you lose your mechanical keys,
new genuine mechanical keys can
be made by your Lexus dealer.
( P.379)
If you lose your electronic keys, the
risk of vehicle theft increases signifi-
cantly. Contact your Lexus dealer
immediately. ( P.379)
Is the electronic key battery weak or
depleted? ( P.341)
Is the engine switch in ON?
When locking the doors, turn the engine
switch off. ( P.152)
Is the electronic key left inside the
vehicle?
When locking the doors, make sure that
you have the electronic key on your per-
son.
The function may not operate prop-
erly due to the condition of the radio
wave. ( P.115)
Is the child-protector lock set?
The rear door cannot be opened
from inside the vehicle when the
lock is set. Open the rear door from
outside and then unlock the child-
protector lock. ( P.101)
Did you press the engine switch
while firmly depressing the brake
pedal? ( P.152)
Is the shift lever in P? ( P.155)
Is the electronic key anywhere
detectable inside the vehicle?
( P.114)
Is the steering wheel unlocked?
( P.152)
Is the electronic key battery weak or
depleted?
In this case, the engine can be
started in a temporary way.
( P.381)
Is the battery discharged?
( P.382)
Is the engine switch in ON?
If you have a problem, check the
following before contacting your
Lexus dealer.
The doors cannot be locked,
unlocked, opened or closed
You lose your keys
The doors cannot be locked or
unlocked
The rear door cannot be opened
If you think something is wrong
The engine does not start
The shift lever cannot be shifted
from P even if you depress the
brake pedal
435What to do if... (Troubleshooting)
If you cannot release the shift lever
by depressing the brake pedal with
the engine switch in ON (P.157)
It is locked automatically to prevent
theft of the vehicle. ( P.152)
Is the window lock switch pressed?
The power window except for the
one at the driver’s seat cannot be
operated if the window lock switch
is pressed. ( P.136)
The auto power off function will be
operated if the vehicle is left in ACC
or ON (the engine is not running)
for a period of time. ( P.154)
The seat belt reminder light is flash-
ing
Are the driver and the front passen-
ger wearing the seat belts?
( P.362)
The parking brake indicator is on
Is the parking brake released?
( P.160)
Depending on the situation, other types of warning buzzer may also
sound. (
P.358, 367)
Did anyone inside the vehicle open
a door during setting the alarm?
The sensor detects it and the alarm
sounds. ( P.64)
To stop the alarm, turn the engine switch to
ON or start the engine.
Is the message displayed on the
multi-information display?
Check the message on the multi-
information display. ( P.367)
When a warning light turns on or a
warning message is displayed, refer
to P.358, 367.
Vehicles without spare tire: Slow
down the vehicle, drive with extra
caution, and take your vehicle to the
nearest Lexus dealer or authorized
tire dealer as soon as possible to
have the tire replaced. ( P.377)
The steering wheel cannot be
turned after the engine is
stopped
The windows do not open or
close by operating the power
window switches
The engine switch is turned off
automatically
A warning buzzer sounds during
drivingAn alarm is activated and the
horn sounds
A warning buzzer sounds when
leaving the vehicle
