■If “Shift Is in N Release Accelerator Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift lever is in N. Release the accelerator pedal and shift the shift lever to
D or R.
■If “Depress Brake when Vehicle Is Stopped Hybrid System May Overheat”
is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerato r pedal is depressed to maintain the
vehicle position when stopped on a upward slope, etc.
If this continues, the hybrid system may overheat.
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
■If “Power Turned Off to Save Battery” is displayed
This message is displayed when the power was cut off due to the automatic
power off function.
The next time the hybrid system is star ted, increase the engine speed slightly
and maintain it at that speed for approximately 5 minutes to recharge the 12-
volt battery.
■If “A New Key has been Registered Contact Your Dealer for Details” is dis-
played
This message will be displayed each time the driver's door is opened when the
doors are unlocked from the outside fo r approximately one week after a new
electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you ha ve not had a new electronic key regis-
tered, ask your Lexus dealer to check if an unknown electronic key (other than
those in your possession) has been registered.
■When “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displayed
The following systems may be malfunct ioning. Have the vehicle inspected by
your Lexus dealer immediately.
●The LED headlight system
●The automatic headlight leveling system
●Automatic High Beam
●AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) (if equipped)

Pull out the spare tire and stand it
against the bumper.
Fully depress the secondary latch and remove the holding bracket
from the hoist assembly .
Tilt the bracket and pass it
through the wheel opening. Then
remove the hoist assembly .6

■When storing the spare tire
Be careful not to catch fingers or other body parts between the spare tire and the body
of the vehicle.

Remove the center wheel ornament by pushing from the reverse side.
Be careful not to lose the wheel ornament.
Stand the tire against the bumper
with the inner surface facing toward
you. Pass the hoist assembly and
holding bracket through the
wheel opening.
Fully depress the secondary latch and install the bracket to the
hoist assembly .

■Stowing the flat tire
Failure to follow steps listed under stow ing the tire may result in damage to
the spare tire carrier and loss of the ti re, which could result in serious injury
or death.

Lay the tire on the ground with the
outer surface (valve stem) facing up.
Before raising the tire, make sure
that the hoist assembly is perpendic-
ular to the wheel opening. (Try to
place the tire directly beneath the
vehicle, near where the wire cable is
hanging from.)
Using the jack handle and adapter socket, tighten the tire clamp bolt by turn-
ing it clockwise until the tire is in the correct position and two clicks are heard
as the jack handle skips.
Confirm it is not loose after tighten-
ing:
Push and pull the tire
Try rotating
Visually check to ensure tire is not
hung on surrounding parts.
If looseness or misassembly exists,
repeat steps
to .
Repeat step , any time the tire is lowered or disturbed.
Stow the jack and all tools.

NOTICE
■Be careful when driving over bumps with the compact spare tire installed on the vehi-
cle
When driving with the compact spare tire installed, the vehicle height will be different
than when driving with standard tires. Be careful when driving over uneven road sur-
faces, etc.
■Driving with tire chains and the compact spare tire
Do not fit tire chains to the compact spare tire.
Tire chains may damage the vehicle body and adversely affect driving performance.
■When replacing the tires
When removing or fitting the wheels, tires or the tire pressure warning valve and trans-
mitter, contact your Lexus dealer as the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter
may be damaged if not handled correctly.
■When stowing the flat tire (RX450hL)
●Ensure that there is no object caught between the tire and the vehicle underbody.
●Securely tighten the spare tire clamp bolt to hold the spare wheel carrier by the hook.
●Stow the flat tire in the spare tire location. Failure to do so may cause damage to the
spare tire carrier. Proper storage reduces the possibilit y of injury in a collision or
during sudden braking.
●Have the flat tire repaired and the spare tire replaced with it as soon as possible.
■Proper storage of the spare tire (RX450hL)
●If the spare tire clamp bolt is turned withou t a tire on the hoist assembly, the wire cable
may not be able to be lowered. If the wire cable cannot be lowered, contact your
Lexus dealer.
●If the hoist assembly is slanted when stowing a
tire, the hoist assembly may become stuck in
the wheel opening and the tire may not be
raised properly, causing damage to the wheel
or the wire cable.

■Unlocking the door
Use the mechanical key (P. 133) in order to perform the following opera-
tions:
Insert the mechanical key while
pulling on the driver’s door han-
dle.
Unlocking the door.
Turning the key rearward unlocks the
driver’s door. Turning the key again
unlocks the other doors.
Remove the key, return the handle, and then pull the handle again.
If the electronic key does not operate properly
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted
( P. 160) or the electronic key ca nnot be used because the battery is
depleted, the smart access system wi th push-button start and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors can be opened and
the hybrid system can be started by following the procedure below.

■Locking the doorWith the door open, push down
the inside lock button.
Close the door.
■Key linked functions
Ensure that the shift lever is in P and depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the power switch.
When the electronic key is detected, a
buzzer sounds and the power switch will
turn to ON mode.
When the smart access system with
push-button start is deactivated in cus-
tomization setting, the power switch will
turn to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that is shown on the multi-
information display.
Press the power switch shortly and firmly.
In the event that the hybrid system still cannot be operated, contact your Lexus
dealer.

If you have a set of jumper (or booster) cables and a second vehicle with a 12-volt
battery, you can jump start your vehicle by following the steps below.
Confirm that the electronic key is
being carried.
When connecting the jumper (or
booster) cables, depe nding on the situa-
tion, the alarm may activate and doors
locked. (
P. 87)
Open the hood ( P. 595) and fuse
box cover.
Open the exclusive jump starting
terminal cover.
If the 12-volt battery is discharged
The following procedures may be used to start the hybrid system if the vehi-
cle’s 12-volt battery is discharged.
You can also call your Lexus deal er or a qualified repair shop.
