SONAR SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
WARNING
Listed below are the system limitations for
the sonar function. Failure to operate the
vehicle in accordance with these system
limitations could result in serious injury or
death.
∙ Inclement weather or ultrasonic sources such as an automatic car wash, a truck’s
compressed-air brakes or a pneumatic
drill may affect the function of the sys-
tem, including reduced performance or a
false activation.
∙ The system is not designed to prevent contact with small or moving objects.
∙ The system will not detect small objects below the bumper, and may not detect
objects close to the bumper or on the
ground. ∙ The system may not detect the following
objects:
– Fluffy objects such as snow, cloth, cotton, grass or wool.
– Thin objects such as rope, wire or chain.
– Wedge-shaped objects.
∙ If your vehicle sustains damage to the bumper fascia, leaving it misaligned or
bent, the sensing zone may be altered
causing inaccurate measurement of ob-
jects or false alarms.
CAUTION
Excessive noise (such as audio system vol-
ume or an open vehicle window) will inter-
fere with the tone and it may not be heard.
System temporarily unavailable
When the amber markers are displayed at the
corners of the vehicle icon and the function
cannot be activated from the Camera setting
menu (the setting items are grayed out), the
sonar system may be malfunctioning.
SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
CAUTION
Keep the surface of the sonar sensors (lo-
cated on the front and rear bumper fascia)
free from accumulations of snow, ice and
dirt. Do not scratch the surface of the sonar
sensors when cleaning. If the sensors are
covered, the accuracy of the sonar function
will be diminished.

Please observe the following precautions:
WARNING
∙ Spinning the front wheels on slipperysurfaces may cause the AWD warning
message to display and the AWD system
to automatically switch from the AWD to
the 2WD mode. This could reduce the
traction. Be especially careful when tow-
ing a trailer (AWD models).
∙ Drive carefully when off the road and avoid dangerous areas. Every person
who drives or rides in this vehicle should
be seated with their seat belt fastened.
This will keep you and your passengers in
position when driving over rough terrain.
∙ Do not drive across steep slopes. Instead drive either straight up or straight down
the slopes. Off-road vehicles can tip over
sideways much more easily than they can
forward or backward.
∙ Many hills are too steep for any vehicle. If you drive up them, you may stall. If you
drive down them, you may not be able to
control your speed. If you drive across
them, you may roll over. ∙ Do not shift gears while driving on down-
hill grades as this could cause loss of con-
trol of the vehicle.
∙ Stay alert when driving to the top of a hill. At the top there could be a drop-off
or other hazard that could cause an
accident.
∙ If your engine stalls or you cannot make it to the top of a steep hill, never attempt to
turn around. Your vehicle could tip or roll
over. Always back straight down in R
(Reverse) gear and apply brakes to con-
trol your speed.
∙ Heavy braking going down a hill could cause your brakes to overheat and fade,
resulting in loss of control and an acci-
dent. Apply brakes lightly and use a low
gear to control your speed.
∙ Unsecured cargo can be thrown around when driving over rough terrain. Prop-
erly secure all cargo so it will not be
thrown forward and cause injury to you
or your passengers.
∙ Secure heavy loads in the cargo area as far forward and as low as possible. Do not
equip the vehicle with tires larger than
specified in this manual. This could cause
your vehicle to roll over. ∙ Do not grip the inside or spokes of the
steering wheel when driving off-road.
The steering wheel could move suddenly
and injure your hands. Instead drive with
your fingers and thumbs on the outside of
the rim.
∙ Before operating the vehicle, ensure that the driver and all passengers have their
seat belts fastened.
∙ Always drive with the floor mats in place as the floor may become hot.
∙ Lower your speed when encountering strong crosswinds. With a higher center
of gravity, your INFINITI is more affected
by strong side winds. Slower speeds en-
sure better vehicle control.
∙ Do not drive beyond the performance ca- pability of the tires, even with AWD
engaged.
∙ For AWD equipped vehicles, do not at- tempt to raise two wheels off the ground
and shift the transmission to any drive or
reverse position with the engine running.
Doing so may result in drivetrain damage
or unexpected vehicle movement which
could result in serious vehicle damage or
personal injury.

∙ Do not attempt to test an AWD equippedvehicle on a 2-wheel dynamometer (such
as the dynamometers used by some
states for emissions testing), or similar
equipment even if the other two wheels
are raised off the ground. Make sure you
inform test facility personnel that your
vehicle is equipped with AWD before it is
placed on a dynamometer. Using the
wrong test equipment may result in
drivetrain damage or unexpected vehicle
movement which could result in serious
vehicle damage or personal injury.
∙ When a wheel is off the ground due to an unlevel surface, do not spin the wheel
excessively.
∙ Accelerating quickly, sharp steering ma- neuvers or sudden braking may cause loss
of control.
∙ If at all possible, avoid sharp turning ma- neuvers, particularly at high speeds. Your
INFINITI vehicle has a higher center of
gravity than a passenger car. The vehicle
is not designed for cornering at the same
speeds as passenger cars. Failure to op-
erate this vehicle correctly could result in
loss of control and/or a rollover accident. ∙ Always use tires of the same type, size,
brand, construction (bias, bias-belted, or
radial), and tread pattern on all four
wheels. Install tire chains on the front
wheels when driving on slippery roads
and drive carefully.
∙ Be sure to check the brakes immediately after driving in mud or water. For addi-
tional information, refer to “Brake pre-
cautions” in this section.
∙ Avoid parking your vehicle on steep hills. If you get out of the vehicle and it rolls
forward, backward or sideways, you
could be injured.
∙ Whenever you drive off-road through sand, mud or water as deep as the wheel
hub, more frequent maintenance may be
required. For additional information, re-
fer to “Maintenance under severe oper-
ating conditions” in the “Maintenance

∙ This vehicle is not designed for off-road (rough road) use. Do not drive on sandy or
muddy roads that tires may get stuck in.
∙ For AWD equipped vehicles, do not at- tempt to raise two wheels off the ground
and shift the transmission to any D
(Drive) or R (Reverse) position with the
engine running. Doing so may result in
drivetrain damage or unexpected vehicle
movement which could result in serious
vehicle damage or personal injury.

your vehicle when acceleration is required for
a lane change. Depress the brake pedal when
deceleration is required to maintain a safe
distance to the vehicle ahead due to its sud-
den braking or if a vehicle cuts in. Always stay
alert when using the ICC system.
ICC (Vehicle-to-vehicle distance
control) mode
In the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control
mode, the ICC system automatically main-
tains a selected distance from the vehicle
traveling in front of you according to that
vehicle’s speed (up to the set speed), or at the
set speed when the road ahead is clear.
The system is intended to enhance the opera-
tion of the vehicle when following a vehicle
traveling in the same lane and direction.
If the radar sensor detects a slower moving
vehicle ahead, the system will reduce the ve-
hicle speed so that your vehicle follows the
vehicle in front at the selected distance.
The system automatically controls the
throttle and applies the brakes (up to ap-
proximately 40% of vehicle braking power) if
necessary. The detection range of the sensor
is approximately 650 ft (200 m) ahead.Preview Function
The ICC system with the Preview Function
identifies the need to apply emergency brak-
ing by sensing a vehicle ahead in the same
lane, and the distance and relative speed
from it. The system applies the brake pre-
pressure before the driver depresses the
brake pedal and helps improve brake re-
sponse by reducing pedal free play.
∙ This system will not operate when the vehicle is moving at approximately
20 mph (32 km/h) or less.
∙ The pre-pressure function ceases when the following conditions are met:
– When the driver depresses the accel- erator pedal or the brake pedal.
– If the driver does not operate the ac- celerator or brake pedal within ap-
proximately 1 second. ∙ The sensor will not detect:
– Pedestrians or objects in the roadway
– Oncoming vehicles in the same lane
– Motorcycles traveling offset in thetravel lane as illustrated

∙ This system is only an aid to assist brak-ing operation and is not a collision warn-
ing or avoidance device. It is the driver’s
responsibility to stay alert, drive safely
and be in control of the vehicle at all

∙ The system may not detect the vehicle infront of you in certain road or weather
conditions. To avoid accidents, never use
the ICC system under the following
conditions:
– On roads where the traffic is heavy or there are sharp curves
– On slippery road surfaces such as on ice or snow, etc.
– During bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.)
– When rain, snow or dirt adheres to the bumper around the distance sensor
– On steep downhill roads (the vehicle may go beyond the set vehicle speed
and frequent braking may result in
overheating the brakes)
– On repeated uphill and downhill roads
– When traffic conditions make it diffi- cult to keep a proper distance be-
tween vehicles because of frequent
acceleration or deceleration
– Interference by other radar sources.
∙ Do not use the ICC system if you are tow- ing a trailer. The system may not detect a
vehicle ahead. ∙ In some road or traffic conditions, a ve-
hicle or object can unexpectedly come
into the sensor detection zone and cause
automatic braking. Always stay alert and
avoid using the ICC system where not
recommended in this warning section.
The radar sensor will not detect the following
objects: ∙ Stationary and slow moving vehicles
∙ Pedestrians or objects in the roadway
∙ Oncoming vehicles in the same lane
∙ Motorcycles traveling offset in the travel lane
The following are some conditions in which
the sensor cannot properly detect a vehicle
ahead and the system may not operate prop-
erly: ∙ When snow or road spray from traveling vehicles reduces the sensor’s detection.
∙ When excessively heavy baggage is loaded in the rear seat or the cargo area
of your vehicle.
The ICC system is designed to automatically
check the sensor’s operation within the limi-
tations of the system. The detection zone of the ICC sensor is lim-
ited. A vehicle ahead must be in the detection
zone for the vehicle-to-vehicle distance de-
tection mode to maintain the selected dis-
tance from the vehicle ahead.
A vehicle ahead may move outside of the
detection zone due to its position within the
same lane of travel. Motorcycles may not be
detected in the same lane ahead if they are
traveling offset from the centerline of the
lane. A vehicle that is entering the lane ahead
may not be detected until the vehicle has
completely moved into the lane.
If this occurs, the ICC system may warn you
by blinking the system indicator and sound-
ing the chime. The driver may have to manu-
ally control the proper distance away from
the vehicle traveling ahead.

WARNING
Failure to follow the warnings and instruc-
tions for proper use of the DCA system
could result in serious injury or death.
∙ DCA helps maintain a distance to the ve-hicle in front under certain conditions. It
is not a collision avoidance system. Fail-
ure to apply the brakes could result in an
accident.
∙ Always drive carefully and attentively when using the DCA system. Read and
understand the Owner’s Manual thor-
oughly before using the DCA system. Do
not use the DCA system except in appro-
priate road and traffic conditions.
∙ If the vehicle ahead comes to a stop, the vehicle decelerates to a standstill within
the limitations of the system. The system
will cancel once it judges that the vehicle
has come to a standstill with a warning
chime. To prevent the vehicle from mov-
ing, the driver must depress the brake
pedal.
∙ The DCA system will not apply brake control while the driver’s foot is on the
accelerator pedal. The DCA system brakes and moves the ac-
celerator pedal upward according to the dis-
tance from and the relative speed of the ve-
hicle ahead to help assist the driver to
maintain a following distance.
DCA SYSTEM OPERATION
Always pay attention to the operation of the
vehicle and be ready to manually decelerate
to maintain the proper following distance.
The DCA system may not be able to deceler-
ate the vehicle under some circumstances.
The DCA system uses a sensor

behind the front bumper of the vehicle to
detect vehicles traveling ahead. The sensor
generally detects the signals returned from
the vehicle ahead. Therefore, if the sensor
cannot detect the reflection from the vehicle
ahead, the DCA system may not operate.

The system is intended to assist the driver to
keep a following distance from the vehicle
ahead traveling in the same lane and direc-
tion.
The distance sensor is located behind the
front bumper
A. If the distance sensorA

system will reduce the vehicle speed to help
assist the driver to maintain a following dis-
tance.
The system automatically controls the

WARNING
The DCA system automatically decelerates
your vehicle to help assist the driver to
maintain a following distance from the ve-
hicle ahead. Manually brake when decel-
eration is required to maintain a safe dis-
tance upon sudden braking by the vehicle
ahead or when a vehicle suddenly appears
in front of you. Always stay alert when us-
ing the DCA system.
The DCA system helps assist the driver to
keep a following distance to the vehicle
ahead by braking and moving the accelerator
pedal upward in the normal driving condition.
When a vehicle is detected ahead:
The vehicle ahead detection indicator comes
on.
When vehicle approaches a vehicle ahead: ∙ If the driver’s foot is not on the accelera- tor pedal, the system activates the brakes
to decelerate smoothly as necessary. If
the vehicle ahead comes to a stop, the
vehicle decelerates to a standstill within
the limitations of the system. ∙ If the driver’s foot is on the accelerator
pedal, the system moves the accelerator
pedal upward to assist the driver to re-
lease the accelerator pedal.
When brake operation by driver is required:
The system alerts the driver by a warning
chime and blinking the vehicle ahead detec-
tion indicator. If the driver’s foot is on the
accelerator pedal after the warning, the sys-
tem moves the accelerator pedal upward to
assist the driver to switch to the brake pedal.
The stop lights of the vehicle come on when
braking is performed by the DCA system.
When the brake operates, a noise may be
heard. This is not a malfunction.
WARNING
∙ When the vehicle ahead detection indica- tor light is not illuminated, the system
will not control or warn the driver.
∙ Depending on the position of the accel- erator pedal, the system may not be able
to assist the driver to release the accel-
erator pedal appropriately. ∙ If the vehicle ahead comes to a standstill,
the vehicle decelerates to a standstill
within the limitations of the system. The
system will release brake control with a
warning chime once it judges the vehicle
is at a standstill. To prevent the vehicle
from moving, the driver must depress the
brake pedal. (The system will resume
control automatically once the system
reaches 3 mph [5 km/h]).
Overriding the system:
The following driver’s operations override the
system operation. ∙ When the driver depresses the accelera- tor pedal even further while the system is
moving the accelerator pedal upward,
the DCA system control of the accelera-
tor pedal is canceled.
∙ When the driver’s foot is on the accelera- tor pedal, the brake control by the system
is not operated.
∙ When the driver’s foot is on the brake pedal, neither the brake control nor the
alert by the system operates.
∙ When the ICC system is set, the DCA system will be canceled.
