Gauges and Meters
Speedometer
The speedometer indicates the
speed of the vehicle and is calibratedin kilometers per hour (km/h) and/ormiles per hour (MPH).
Tachometer
The tachometer indicates the
approximate number of engine revo-
lutions per minute (rpm). Use the tachometer to select the cor-
rect shift points and to prevent lug-
ging and/or over-revving the engine. Do not operate the engine within
the tachometer's RED ZONE. This
may cause severe engine damage.
Engine coolant temperaturegauge
This gauge indicates the tempera-ture of the engine coolant when the
ignition switch is in the ON position.
If the gauge pointer moves
beyond the normal range area
toward the "H" position, it indi-
cates overheating that may dam-
age the engine.
Do not continue driving with an
overheated engine. If your vehicle
overheats, refer to "If the Engine
Overheats" in chapter 6.

Driving your vehicle
When the ECO mode is activated:
The acceleration response may beslightly reduced if the accelerator
pedal is depressed moderately.
The air conditioner performance may be limited.
The shift pattern of the automatic transmission/dual clutch transmis-
sion may change.
The engine speed may be lower than when driving in NORMAL
mode.
The above situations are normalconditions when the ECO mode is
activated to improve fuel efficiency. Limitation of the ECO mode oper-ation:
Even though ECO mode is selected and there is no change in the ECOindicator :
When the coolant temperature is
low, ECO mode will be limited until
engine temperature is at normal
operating temperature.
When driving up a hill, ECO mode will be limited to provide better
power when driving uphill.
When driving the vehicle with the automatic transmission/ dual
clutch transmission gear shift lever
in manual shift mode, ECO modewill be limited according to the shiftposition.SPORT mode
SPORT mode manages
the driving dynamics byautomatically adjusting the
steering effort, and the
engine and transmission control
logic for enhanced driving perform-
ance.
When SPORT mode is selected by pressing the DRIVE MODE button,
the SPORT indicator will illuminate.
Whenever the engine is restarted, the Drive Mode will revert back to
NORMAL mode. If SPORT mode is
desired, re-select SPORT mode
from the DRIVE MODE button.
When SPORT mode is activated:
- The engine rpm will tend toremain raised over a certain
length of time even after releas-
ing the accelerator
- Upshifts are delayed when accel- erating

In SPORT mode, the fuel efficiency
may decrease.

restrictions against their use.Winter Precautions
Use high quality ethylene glycol coolant
Your vehicle is delivered with high
quality ethylene glycol coolant in the
cooling system. It is the only type ofcoolant that should be used because
it helps prevent corrosion in the cool-
ing system, lubricates the water
pump and prevents freezing. Be sure
to replace or replenish your coolantin accordance with the maintenance
schedule in chapter 7. Before winter,
have your coolant tested to assure
that its freezing point is sufficient for
the temperatures anticipated during
the winter.
Change to "winter weight" oil ifnecessary
In some climates it is recommended
that a lower viscosity "winter weight"
oil be used during cold weather. See
chapter 8 for recommendations. If
you aren't sure what weight oil you
should use, consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
Check battery and cables
Winter puts additional burdens on
the battery system. Visually inspect
the battery and cables as described
in chapter 7. The level of charge in
your battery can be checked by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer or a
service station.

7. Connect the other end of the sec-ond jumper cable to the black,
negative (-) chassis ground of
your vehicle (4).
Do not allow the jumper cables to
contact anything except the cor-
rect battery or jumper terminals or
the correct ground. Do not lean
over the battery when making
connections.
8. Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it run at approxi-
mately 2,000 rpm for a few min-
utes. Then start your vehicle.
If your vehicle will not start after a
few attempts, it probably requires
servicing. In this event please seek
qualified assistance. If the cause of
your battery discharging is not
apparent, have your vehicle checked
by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Disconnect the jumper cables in the
exact reverse order you connectedthem:
1. Disconnect the jumper cable from
the black, negative (-) chassis
ground of your vehicle (4).
2. Disconnect the other end of the jumper cable from the black, neg-
ative (-) battery/chassis ground of
the assisting vehicle (3).
3. Disconnect the second jumper cable from the red, positive (+)
battery/jumper terminal of the
assisting vehicle (2).
4. Disconnect the other end of the jumper cable from the red, positive
(+) jumper terminal of your vehicle(1). If your temperature gage indicates
overheating, you experience a loss
of power, or hear loud pinging or
knocking, the engine may be over-
heating. If this happens, you should:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon
as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the shift lever in P (Park) and set the parking brake. If the air
conditioning is ON, turn it OFF.
3. If engine coolant is running out under the vehicle or steam is com-ing out from the hood, stop the
engine. Do not open the hood until
the coolant has stopped running
or the steaming has stopped. If
there is no visible loss of engine
coolant and no steam, leave the
engine running and check to be
sure the engine cooling fan is
operating. If the fan is not running,
turn the engine off.

4. Check for coolant leaking from theradiator, hoses or under the vehi-
cle. (If the air conditioning had
been in use, it is normal for cold
water to be draining from it when
you stop.)
5. If engine coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and
call the nearest authorized
HYUNDAI dealer for assistance. 6. If you cannot find the cause of the
overheating, wait until the engine
temperature has returned to nor-
mal. Then, if coolant has beenlost, carefully add coolant to the
reservoir to bring the fluid level in
the reservoir up to the halfway
mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for further signs of overheat-
ing. If overheating happens again,
call an authorized HYUNDAI deal-
er for assistance.
While the engine is
running, keep hands,
clothing and tools
away from the mov-
ing parts such as thecooling fan and drive
belt to prevent seri-
ous injury.
WARNING
Serious loss of coolant indi- cates a leak in the cooling sys-
tem and should be checked as
soon as possible by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
Your vehicle is equipped with a pres-
surized coolant
reserve tank. NEVER
remove the engine
coolant reservoir tank/radiatorcap or the drain plug while the
engine and radiator are HOT.
Hot coolant and steam may
blow out under pressure, caus-
ing serious injury.
Turn the engine off and wait
until the engine cools down.
Use extreme care when remov-
ing the engine coolant reservoir
tank/radiator cap. Wrap a towel
or thick rag around it, and turn it
counterclockwise slowly torelease some of the pressure
from the system. Step backwhile the pressure is released.
When you are sure all the pres-
sure has been released, contin-ue turning the cap counter-
clockwise to remove it.

Maintenance
Do not use a solution that containsmore than 60% antifreeze or less
than 35% antifreeze, which would
reduce the effectiveness of thesolution.
For mixing percentage, refer to the
following table:
Information
If in doubt about the mix ratio, a 50%
water and 50% antifreeze mix is the
easiest to mix together as it will be the
same quantity of each. It is suitable to
use for most temperature ranges of
-35°C (-31°F) and higher.

Maintenance
The electric motor for the cooling fan
is controlled by engine coolant tem-
perature, refrigerant pressure and
vehicle speed. As the engine coolant
temperature decreases, the electric
motor will automatically shut off. This
is a normal condition. If your vehicle
is equipped with GDI, the electric
motor for the cooling fan may begin
to operate at any time and continue
to operate until you disconnect the
negative battery cable.The electric motor for
the cooling fan may
continue to operate
or start up when theengine is not running
and can cause serious injury.
Keep hands, clothing and tools
away from the rotating fan
blades of the cooling fan.
WARNING
Never remove the
engine coolant reser-
voir tank/radiator capor the drain plugwhile the engine and
radiator are hot. Hot coolant
and steam may blow out under
pressure, causing serious
injury.
Turn the engine off and wait
until the engine cools down.
Use extreme care when remov-
ing the engine coolant reservoir
tank/radiator cap. Wrap a thick
towel around it, and turn it
counterclockwise slowly to the
first stop. Step back while the
pressure is released from the
cooling system. When you aresure all the pressure has been
released, press down on the
cap, using a thick towel, and
continue turning counterclock-
wise to remove it.
