2. Press and hold the lid open button on the
remote transmitter, or press and hold the
charge lid release button on the dashboard.

u The illumination lamp inside the charge
lid comes on for a few minutes.
3. Open the trunk, and remove the bag.
4. Open the bag, and take the charging cable
out.

the following conditions is a potential

• Charging the battery during an electric
storm.
• Using the charging cable near water or
handling with wet hands.
• Using a charger, whose case is broken or
cracked or whose cable is frayed or
damaged.
Never charge the vehi cle in any of the
above situations.

Maintenance Before Performing Maintenance Inspection and Maintenance For your safety, perform all listed inspecti ons and maintenance to keep your vehicle
in good condition. If you become aware of any abnormality (noise, smell, insufficient
brake fluid, oil residue on the ground, etc .), have your vehicle inspected by an
authorized Honda Clar ity Plug-In Hybrid dealer. (Note, however, that service at an
authorized Honda Clar ity Plug-In Hybrid dealer is not mandatory to keep your
warranties in effect.)
■ Daily inspections
Perform inspections before long distance trips, when washing th e vehicle, or when
refueling.
■ Periodic inspections

Oil Check We recommend that you check the engine oil level every time you refuel or you
charge the High Voltage battery.
Park the vehicle on level ground.
Turn off the power system. You can check the oil level without the engine having
run beforehand. If the engine has been ru nning, wait approxim ately three minutes
before you check the oil.
1. Remove the dipstick (orange).
2. Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth or
paper towel.
3. Insert the dipstick back all the way into its
hole.
4. Remove the dipstick again, and check the
level. It should be between the upper and
lower marks. Add oil if necessary. 1 Oil Check
If the oil level is near or below the lower mark, slowly
add oil, being carefu l not to overfill.

Changing the Engine Oil and Oil FilterYou must change the engine oil and oil fi lter regularly in order to maintain the
engine's lubrication. The engine may be damaged if they are not changed regularly.
Turning the power system on automatically starts the en gine if the High Voltage
battery charge level gauge shows one segment or less. 2 High Voltage Battery Charge Level Gauge P. 123
To start the engine, the vehicl e needs to be in HV Charge.2 HV Button P. 16
Change the oil and filter in accordance with the mainte nance message on the driver
information interface.
1. Run the engine until it reaches normal
operating temperature, and then turn the
engine off.
u If necessary, drive the vehicle until the
engine turns on.
2. Open the hood and remove the engine oil
fill cap.
3. Remove the slotted head screws by
turning 90° counterclockwise on the
undercarriage and remove the under

You may damage the environment if you do not
dispose of the oil in a suitable way. If you are
changing the oil by yourself , appropriately dispose of
the used oil. Put the oil in a sealed container and take
it to a recycling center. Do not throw the oil away

10. Reinstall the engine oil fill cap securely and
start the engine.
11. Run the engine for a few minutes, and
then check that there is no leak from the
drain bolt or oil filter.
12. Stop the engine, wait for three minutes,
and then check the oil level on the
dipstick.

Reinstall the engine oil fill cap. Start the engine. The
low oil pressure indicator should go off within five
seconds. If it does not, turn off the engine, and check

Indicator, Coming On/Blinking If the Low Oil Pressu re Warning Appears ■ Reasons for the Warning to appear
Appears when the engine oil pressure is low.
■ What to do as soon as the warning
appears
1. Immediately park the vehicle on level
ground in a safe place.
2. If necessary, turn the hazard warning lights
on.
■ What to do after parking the vehicle
1. Stop the engine and let it sit for
approximately three minutes.

3. Start the engine and check the low oil
pressure warning.
u The warning disappears: Start driving
again.
u The warning does not disappear within
10 seconds: Immediately stop the engine
and contact an authorized Honda Clarity
