Caution
When replacing the battery, do
not touch any of the circuitry on
the transmitter. Static from your
body could damage the
transmitter.
To replace the battery: 1. Press the button on the side of the RKE transmitter to pull out
the key. Never pull the key out
without pressing the button.
2. Insert a flat, thin object in thecenter of the transmitter to
separate and remove the back
cover.
3. Lift the battery with a flat
object.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Insert the new battery, positive side toward the back cover.
Replace with a CR2032 or
equivalent battery.
6. Push together the transmitter.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped, this feature allows you
to start the engine from outside the
vehicle.
/: This button will be on the RKE
transmitter if the vehicle has remote
start.
The climate control system will use
the previous settings during a
remote start. The rear defog may
come on during remote start based
on cold ambient conditions. The
rear defog indicator light does not
come on during remote start.
If equipped with heated and
ventilated front seats, they may
come on during a remote start. See
Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
0 65.
If equipped with a heated steering
wheel, it may come on during a
remote start. See Heated Steering
Wheel 0114.
Laws in some local communities
may restrict the use of remote
starters. For example, some laws
require a person using remote start

Stop/Start System
The vehicle has a Stop/Start system
to shut off the engine to help
conserve fuel. SeeStarting the
Engine 0197.

Vehicle Storage

Batteries have acid that can burn
you and gas that can explode.
You can be badly hurt if you are
not careful. See Jump Starting -
North America 0360 for tips on
working around a battery without
getting hurt.
Infrequent Usage: Remove the
black, negative (−) cable from the
battery to keep the battery from
running down.
Extended Storage: Remove the
black, negative (−) cable from the
battery or use a battery trickle
charger.
All-Wheel Drive
Transfer Case
Under normal driving conditions,
transfer case fluid does not require
maintenance unless there is a fluid leak or unusual noise. If required,
have the transfer case serviced by
your dealer.
Starter Switch Check
{Warning
When you are doing this
inspection, the vehicle could
move suddenly. If the vehicle
moves, you or others could be
injured.
1. Before starting this check, be sure there is enough room
around the vehicle.
2. Apply both the parking brake and the regular brake.
Do not use the accelerator
pedal, and be ready to turn off
the engine immediately if it
starts.
3. Try to start the engine in each gear. The vehicle should start
only in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
