{Warning
If the key is unintentionally
rotated while the vehicle is
running, the ignition could be
moved out of the RUN position.
This could be caused by heavy
items hanging from the key ring,
or by large or long items attached
to the key ring that could be
contacted by the driver or
steering wheel. If the ignition
moves out of the RUN position,
the engine will shut off, braking
and steering power assist may be(Continued)

impacted, and airbags may not
deploy. To reduce the risk of
unintentional rotation of the
ignition key, do not change the
way the ignition key and Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter,
if equipped, are connected to the
provided key rings.
The ignition key and key rings, and
RKE transmitter, if equipped, are
designed to work together as a
system to reduce the risk of unintentionally moving the key out
of the RUN position. The ignition
key has a small hole to allow
attachment of the provided key ring.
It is important that any replacement
ignition keys have a small hole. See
your dealer if a replacement key is
required. The combination and size
of the rings that came with your
keys were specifically selected for
your vehicle. The rings are
connected to the key like two links
of a chain to reduce the risk of
unintentionally moving the key out
of the RUN position. Do not add any
additional items to the ring attached
to the ignition key. Attach additional
items only to the second ring, and
limit added items to a few essential
keys or small, light items no larger
than an RKE transmitter.

7: Press and hold briefly to initiate
vehicle locator. The exterior lamps
flash and the horn chirps three
times.

three seconds to sound the panic
alarm. The horn sounds and the
turn signals flash for 30 seconds,
or until
7is pressed again or the
vehicle is started.
/: If equipped, press and releaseQand then immediately press and
hold
/for at least four seconds to
start the engine from outside the
vehicle using the RKE transmitter.

Keyless Access Operation
The Keyless Access system allows
for the doors and trunk or liftgate to
be locked and unlocked without
pressing the RKE transmitter button.
The RKE transmitter must be within
1 m (3 ft) of the trunk/liftgate or door
being opened. There is a button on
the outside door handles.
Keyless Access can be
programmed to unlock all doors on
the first lock/unlock press from the
driver door. See Vehicle
Personalization 0139.
Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Driver Door
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within range of
the door handle, pressing the lock/
unlock button on the driver door
handle will unlock the driver door. If the lock/unlock button is pressed
again within five seconds, the
passenger door will unlock.

Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause the front doors to lock if any
of the following occur:
. It has been more than
five seconds since the first lock/
unlock button press.
. Two lock/unlock button presses
were used to unlock the front
doors.

The DIC displays READY FOR
REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5 etc.
3. Remove the recognized transmitters and place the new
transmitter into the cupholder.
4. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is
programmed, the DIC will show
that it is ready to program the
next transmitter.
5. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press
Kor
Qon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and
hold ENGINE START/STOP for
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
6. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter. Programming without Recognized
Transmitters
If two currently recognized
transmitters are not available, follow
this procedure to program up to
eight transmitters. This feature is
not available in Canada. This
procedure will take approximately
30 minutes to complete. The vehicle
must be off and all of the
transmitters you wish to program
must be with you.
1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.
See Door Locks 042. Insert
the vehicle key of the
transmitter into the key lock
cylinder on the outside of the
driver door and turn the key to
the unlock position five times
within 10 seconds.
The DIC displays REMOTE
LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT. 2. Wait for 10 minutes until the
DIC displays PRESS ENGINE
START BUTTON TO LEARN
and then press ENGINE
START/STOP.
The DIC will again show
REMOTE LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all
previously known transmitters
will no longer work with the
vehicle. Remaining transmitters
can be reprogrammed during
the next steps.
The DIC display should now
show READY FOR REMOTE
# 1.

4. Place the transmitter in thefront cupholder.
5. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is
programmed the DIC will show
that it is ready to program the
next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press
Kor
Qon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6. When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and
hold ENGINE START/STOP for
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
7. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter.
Starting the Vehicle with a Low
Transmitter Battery
If the transmitter battery is weak or if
there is interference with the signal
when trying to start the vehicle, the
DIC may display NO REMOTE
DETECTED or NO REMOTE KEY
WAS DETECTED PLACE KEY IN
TRANSMITTER POCKET THEN
START YOUR VEHICLE. The DIC
may also display REPLACE
BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY.
To start the vehicle:
1. Place the transmitter in the front cupholder.
2. With the vehicle in P (Park) or N (Neutral), press the brake
pedal and ENGINE START/
STOP. See Starting the Engine

about the vehicle's keyless
ignition with pushbutton start.
Replace the transmitter battery
as soon as possible.

Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System Operation
(Key Access)
The transmitter functions may work
up to 60 m (197 ft) away from the
vehicle.
Other conditions, such as those
previously stated, can impact the
performance of the transmitter. See
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System031.
With Remote Start Similar
Q:Press to lock all doors. The turn signal indicators may flash
and/or the horn may sound on the
second press to indicate locking.

If the driver door is open when
Qis
pressed, all doors will lock and then
the driver door will immediately
unlock, if enabled. See Vehicle
Personalization 0139.
If the passenger door is open when
Qis pressed, all doors lock.
Pressing

operate when the key is in the
ignition.
Programming Keys to the
Vehicle
Only keys programmed to the
vehicle will work. If a key is lost or
stolen, a replacement can be

Caution
When replacing the battery, do
not touch any of the circuitry on
the transmitter. Static from your
body could damage the
transmitter.
The battery is not rechargeable. To
replace the battery:
1. Separate the two halves of the transmitter by inserting a flat
tool into the recess of the
transmitter.
2. Remove the battery with asmall tool by pushing it toward
the top of the transmitter.
3. Insert a new battery, positive side up, pushing it down until it
is held in place. Use a CR
2032 or equivalent battery.
4. Snap the battery cover back on to the transmitter.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped, this feature allows the
engine to be started from outside
the vehicle. See Engine Exhaust
0 181.
/:This button will be on the RKE
transmitter if the vehicle has remote
start.
If equipped with remote start, the
climate control system will come on
when the vehicle is started remotely,
depending on the outside
temperature.
The rear window defogger and
heated seats, if equipped, may also
come on. See “Remote Start
Climate Control Operation” in
Climate Control Systems 0151 and
Heated Front Seats 062.
Laws in some local communities
may restrict the use of remote
starters. For example, some laws
require a person using remote start
to have the vehicle in view. Check
local regulations for any
requirements.

performance of the transmitter. See

Starting the Vehicle
To start the engine using the remote
start feature:1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release
Q.
3. Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold
/for at
least four seconds or until the
turn signal lamps flash. The
turn signal lamps flashing
confirms the request to remote
start the vehicle has been
received.
When the engine starts, the parking
lamps will turn on and remain on as
long as the engine is running. The
doors will be locked and the climate
control system may come on.
The engine will continue to run for
15 minutes. After 30 seconds,
repeat the steps if a 15-minute
extension is desired. Remote start
can be extended only once.
Turn the ignition on to drive. Extending Engine Run Time
The engine run time can be
extended by another 15 mintues,
if during the first 15 minutes
Steps 2 and 3 are repeated while
the engine is still running. An
extension can be requested
30 seconds after starting. When the
remote start is extended, the
second 15-minute period is added
on to the first 15 minutes for a total
of 30 minutes.
The remote start can be
extended once.
A maximum of two remote starts,
or a single start with an extension,
is allowed between ignition cycles.
The vehicle's ignition must be
turned on and then back off to use
remote start again.
Canceling a Remote Start
To cancel a remote start, do one of
the following:
.
Aim the RKE transmitter at the
vehicle and press and hold
/
until the parking lamps turn off. .
Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
. Turn the vehicle on and then off.
Conditions in Which Remote Start
Will Not Work
The remote vehicle start feature will
not operate if:
. The key is in the ignition (Key
Access) or an RKE transmitter is
in the vehicle (Keyless Access).
. The hood is not closed.
. The hazard warning flashers
are on.
. The malfunction indicator lamp
is on.
. The engine coolant temperature
is too high.
. The oil pressure is low.
. Two remote vehicle starts, or a
single remote start with an
extension, have already
been used.
. The vehicle is not in P (Park).

This can be manually overridden by
pressing and holding
Qon the
power door lock switch.
Keyless Access : When locking is
requested with the driver door open
and the engine is running or the
ignition is in ACC/ACCESSORY, all
the doors will lock and the driver
door will remain unlocked.
If the vehicle is off and locking is
requested while a door is open,
when all doors are closed the
vehicle will check for RKE
transmitters inside. If an RKE
transmitter is detected and the
number of RKE transmitters inside
has not reduced, the driver door will
unlock and the horn will sound three
times.
This can be manually overridden by
pressing and holding
Qon the
power door lock switch.
Open Door Anti-Lockout
Keyless Access : If Open Door
Anti-Lockout is turned on and the
vehicle is off, the driver door is
open, and locking is requested, all the doors will lock and the driver
door will remain open. Press the
button again to lock the driver door.
The Open Door Anti-Lockout feature
can be turned on or off. See
Vehicle
Personalization 0139.
Safety Locks
The rear door safety locks prevent
passengers from opening the rear
doors from inside the vehicle.
Manual Safety Locks
The safety lock is on the inside
edge of the rear doors. To use the
safety lock: 1. Move the lever forward to the
lock position.
2. Close the door.
3. Do the same for the other rear door.
To open a rear door when the safety
lock is on:
1. Unlock the door by activating the inside handle, pressing the
power door lock switch,
or using the Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) transmitter.
2. Open the door from the outside.
When the safety lock is enabled,
adults and older children will not be
able to open the rear door from the
inside. Cancel the safety locks to
enable the doors to open from the
inside.
To cancel the safety lock: 1. Unlock the door and open it from the outside.
2. Move the lever rearward to unlock. Do the same for the
other door.
