production.Childrestraintsarenotstandardized.
Childrestraintsofthesametypetypicallyhave
differentweightsandsizesanddifferent“foot-
prints”,thesizeandshapeofthebottomofthe
childrestraintthatsitsontheseat,whenthey
areinstalledonavehicleseat.Thesedifferences
make
itvirtuallyimpossibletocertifycompliance
withtherequirementsforadvancedairbagswith
eachandeverychildrestraintthathaseverbeen
soldinthepastorwillbesoldoverthecourseof
theusefullifeofyourvehicle.
Forthisreason,theUnitedStatesNationalHigh-
wayTrafficSafetyAdministrationhaspublisheda
listofspecifictype,makesandmodelsofchild
restraintsthatmustbeusedtocertifycompli-
anceoftheAdvancedAirbagSysteminyourvehi-
clewiththesuppressionrequirementsofFederal
MotorVehicleSafetyStandard208.Thesechild

Iftheiaindicatorlightappearsafterswitching
theignitiononorwhiledrivingandthe@indi-
catorlightalsoblinksforapproximatelyonemi-
nuteandthenstayson,thereissystemmalfunc-
tion.Thefollowingareexamplesofsituations
thatcouldcauseamalfunction:
—Ifthemessageappearsattheendoftheadap-
tationphase,thesystemmaynotdetectoneor
several ofthewheelsensorsnecessaryforpres-
suremonitoring.Thismayresultfrom oneor
morewheelswithoutwheelsensorsorwithin-
compatiblewheelsensorsbeinginstalled.
—Awheelsensororanothercomponenthas
failed.
—Usingsnowchainscanaffectthefunctionof
thesystembecauseoftheshieldingeffectof
thechains.
—Thetirepressuremonitoringsystemisnot
availableduetoamalfunction.

incorrectlycan impair the operationandreliabili-

TechnicalModifications
Interferencewithelectroniccomponents,their
software,thewiring,anddatatransfermaycause
malfunctions.Becauseofthewayelectroniccom-
ponentsareinterconnected,suchmalfunctions
canalsoimpairsystemsthatarenotdirectlyin-
volved.Thismeansthatyouriskbothasubstan-
tialreductionintheoperationalsafetyofyourve-
hicleandincreasedwearofvehiclecomponents.
Someconveniencefunctions,suchastheconven-
ienceturnsignalfunction,individualdooropen-
ingfunction,anddisplays,canbereprogrammed
