Immo bilizer system in dicator
li g ht “ ”
When the key is turned to “OFF” and
30 seconds have passed, the indicator
light will flash steadily to indicate the
immobilizer system is enabled. After 24
hours have passed, the indicator light
will stop flashing, however the immobi-
lizer system is still enabled.
The electrical circuit of the indicator
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The indicator light should
come on for a few seconds, and then
go off.
If the indicator light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
if the indicator light remains on, or if the
indicator light flashes in a pattern (if a
problem is detected in the immobilizer
system, the immobilizer system indica-
tor light will flash in a pattern), have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.
TIPIf the immobilizer system indicator light
flashes in the pattern, slowly 5 times
then quickly 2 times, this could be
caused by transponder interference. If
this occurs, try the following. 1. Make sure there are no other im- mobilizer keys close to the main
switch. Other immobilizer system
keys may cause signal interfer-
ence and prevent the engine from
starting.
2. Use the code re-registering key to start the engine.
3. If the engine starts, turn it off, and try starting the engine with the
standard keys.
4. If one or both of the standard keys do not start the engine, take the
vehicle and all 3 keys to a Yamaha
dealer to have the standard keys
re-registered.

Engine oil an d Coolant warnin g
li g ht “ ”
This warning light comes on if the en-
gine oil level is low or if the coolant
temperature is high. If this occurs, stop
the engine immediately.
When the vehicle is turned on, the
warning light should come on for a few
seconds, and then go off. If the warn-
ing light does not come on, have a
Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.NOTICE

If the en gine is overheatin g, the
coolant temperature warnin g
icon will come on. Let the en-
g ine cool. Check the coolant
level (see pag e 6-37).
If the en gine oil level is low, the
en gine oil warnin g icon will
come on. Check the oil level
(see pa ge 6-11).

ate to the desired traveling speed
using the throttle.
When the vehicle is traveling
downhill, the actual traveling
speed may become higher than
the set cruising speed. If this oc-
curs, the setting switch cannot be
used to adjust the set cruising
speed. To reduce the traveling
speed, apply the brakes. When
the brakes are applied, the cruise
control system will become deac-
tivated.

Air temperature display
This display indicates the air tempera-
ture from –9 °C to 50 °C in 1 °C incre-
ments.
TIP –9 °C will be displayed even if the
air temperature falls below –9 °C.
50 °C will be displayed even if the
ambient temperature climbs
above 50 °C.
The temperature displayed may
vary from the actual ambient tem-
perature.Grip warmer d isplay
The grip warmers can be used when
the engine is running. There are 4 grip
warmer settings. To change the grip warmer setting
1. Select the grip warmer display.
2. Short push the wheel switch, and
then rotate the wheel switch up or
down to change the setting while
the display is flashing. Short push

7. Install the engine oil drain bolt with a new gasket, and then tighten the
bolt to the specified torque.
8. Pour the specified amount of the recommended oil into the crank-
case.
TIPUsing a funnel is recommended.
9. After checking the engine oil fillercap O-ring, install the filler cap.TIPWipe off any spilled oil before starting
the engine.10. Start the engine and let it idle while checking for oil leaks.TIPIf any oil leaks are found which you
cannot fix, have the vehicle inspected.11. Stop the engine, wait a few min-utes for the oil to settle, and then
check the oil level one last time.
NOTICE: Do not operate the ve-
hicle until you know that the en-
g ine oil level is sufficient.

CoolantThe coolant level should be checked
regularly. In addition, the coolant must
be changed at the intervals specified in
the periodic maintenance chart.TIPIf genuine Yamaha coolant is not avail-
able, use an ethylene glycol antifreeze
containing corrosion inhibitors for alu-
minum engines and mix with distilled
water at a 1:1 ratio.

To check the coolant level
Since the coolant level varies with en-
gine temperature, check when the en-
gine is cold.
