WARNING
Do not squeeze box-like cargo between the rear seat cushion and the front seat backrest. If the rear seat backrests are folded down, cargo must be secured to prevent it from slid-ing forward against the front seat backrests inthe event of a collision.
WARNING
If a rear seat backrest is folded down or if a rear-facing child restraint is being used in therear seat, the seat in front must be moved for-ward so that it does not come into contactwith the backrest or child restraint.
Seating positionFor WHIPS to provide optimal protection, the driver and passenger must be seated correctlyand the system's function must not be impededin any way. Set the front seat to the correct seating position before starting to drive. The driver and the front seat passenger should sit in the center of the seat with their heads asclose as possible to the head restraints.

Seat belts
Seat belts should always be worn by all occu- pants in your vehicle. Children should be prop-erly restrained using an infant seat, adjustablechild seat or booster cushion as determined byage, weight and height.
Most states and provinces make it mandatory for occupants of a vehicle to use seat belts.
Seat belt maintenanceCheck periodically that the seat belts are in goodcondition. Use water and a mild detergent forcleaning. Check the seat belt mechanism's func-tion as follows: attach the seat belt and pull rap-idly on the strap.

As the movement of the seats' occupants com- presses the airbags, some of the gas is expelledat a controlled rate to provide better cushioning.Both seat belt tensioners also deploy, minimizingseat belt slack. The entire process, from inflationto deflation of the airbag, occurs within tenths ofa second. The location of the front airbags is indicated by SRS AIRBAG

pad and above the glove compartment, and by decals on both sun visors and on the front andfar right side of the dash. The driver's side front airbag is folded and
located in the steering wheel hub.The knee airbag is folded on the underside of
the dashboard on the driver's side. The text AIRBAG is embossed on the panel.
The passenger's side front airbag is folded
behind a panel located above the glove compart- ment.
WARNING
• The airbags in the vehicle are designed to be a SUPPLEMENT to-not a replacementfor-the three-point seat belts. For maxi-mum protection, wear seat belts at alltimes. Be aware that no system can pre-vent all possible injuries that may occur inan accident.
• Never drive with your hands on the steer-ing wheel pad/airbag housing.
• The front airbags are designed to helpprevent serious injury. Deployment occursvery quickly and with considerable force.During normal deployment and depend-ing on variables such as seating position,one may experience abrasions, bruises,swellings, or other injuries as a result ofdeployment of one or both of the airbags.
• When installing any accessory equipment,make sure that the front airbag system isnot damaged. Any interference in the sys-tem could cause malfunction.
Front airbag deployment
• The front airbags are designed to deploy dur-ing certain frontal or front-angular collisions,impacts, or decelerations, depending on thecrash severity, angle, speed and objectimpacted. The airbags may also deploy in certain non-frontal collisions where rapiddeceleration occurs.
• The airbag system sensors, which trigger thefront airbags, are designed to react to boththe impact of the collision and the inertialforces generated by it, and to determine ifthe intensity of the collision is sufficient forthe seat belt tensioners and/or airbags to bedeployed.
However, not all frontal collisions activate thefront airbags.
• If the collision involves a nonrigid object (e.g.,a snow drift or bush), or a rigid, fixed objectat a low speed, the front airbags will not nec-essarily deploy.
• Front airbags do not normally deploy in aside impact collision, in a collision from therear or in a rollover situation.
• The amount of damage to the bodyworkdoes not reliably indicate if the airbagsshould have deployed or not.

Automatic folding when the vehicle is locked *
The door mirrors automatically fold in when the vehicle is locked and open when the vehicle isunlocked using the remote key. 1.

Panoramic roof
*
The panoramic roof is divided into two glass sections. The front section can be opened verti-cally at the rear edge (ventilation position) or hor-izontally (open position). The rear section cannotbe moved. The panoramic roof has a wind deflector and sun curtain made of perforated fabric (locatedbeneath the glass sections) for extra protectionin e.g. bright sunlight.
The panoramic roof and sun curtain are operated using the controls in the ceiling. It can also be operated using keyless opening *
with the door handle. To operate the panoramic roof and sun curtain, the ignition must be in mode I or II.
WARNING
Children, other passengers or objects can be trapped by the moving parts.
• Always operate the windows with caution.
• Do not allow children to play with the operating controls.
• Never leave a child alone in the vehicle.
• Remember to always cut the current tothe power windows by setting the vehi- cle's electrical system to ignition mode

and then taking the remote key with you when leaving the vehicle.
• Never stick objects or body parts outthrough the windows, even if the vehicleelectrical system is completely turned off.
CAUTION
• Do not open the panoramic roof when load carriers are installed.
• Never place heavy objects on the panor-amic roof.

• Remove ice and snow before opening the panoramic roof.
• Do not operate the panoramic roof if it isfrozen in place.

Storing memory settings in power
front seats *
The memory function can be used to store the settings for the seat, door mirrors and head-up display *.
Three different settings can be stored using the memory function. The memory function controls are located on one or both of the front doors *.

Storing a position1. Adjust the seat, door mirrors and head-up
display to the desired position. 2.
Press and hold the M button. The indicator
light in the button will illuminate.
3. Within three seconds, press and hold the 1,
2 or 3 button.
> When the position has been stored in the memory button, an audible signal will sound and the indicator light in the M but-
ton will go out.
If none of the memory buttons are pressed withinthree seconds, the M button will go out and no
position will be stored. The seat must be adjusted again before a new memory position can be stored.

Folding the second row backrests
The second row of seats has three individual seating positions. The backrests can be foldeddown separately.
WARNING
• Adjust the seat and ensure it locks into position before driving. Use caution whenadjusting the seat. Uncontrolled or care-less adjustments could lead to injury.
• Long objects must always be securelytied down to help prevent injury or dam-age in the event of sudden braking.
• Always turn off the engine and apply theparking brake when loading or unloadingthe vehicle.
• Put the gear selector in
P to help prevent
the gear selector from being inadvertentlymoved.
CAUTION
When the backrest is folded down, make sure there are no objects in the rear seat, and theseat belts are not buckled. Otherwise there isa risk of damage to the upholstery.
CAUTION
The seat cushion of the integrated child restraint * must be in the stowed position
before the center seat backrest can be folded down. The armrest * in the center seat must be
raised before the seat backrest is folded down. If the vehicle has private locking *, the ski
hatch must be closed before the seat back- rest is folded down.
NOTE
The front seats may need to be pushed for- ward and/or the backrest adjusted so that therear seat backrests can be fully lowered. The rear seats may also need to be moved rearward. The seats in the second row must be in the upright position before they can be foldeddown completely. They should not be foldeddown when they are tilted forward to accessthe third row of seats.

Center seat
To fold down the backrest:
1. Fold down the head restraint manually.
2. Pull the strap on the right side of the centerseat.
3. Fold the backrest down until it locks into position. The seat cushion will move down- ward/forward when the backrest is foldeddown and create a flat surface.
To return the backrest to the upright position:
1. Pull the strap.
2. Fold up the backrest and release the strap. Push the backrest until it locks into position.
3. Adjust the head restraint if necessary.
Outboard seats
To fold down the backrest:
NOTE
When folding down a second row seat back- rest, always start from the seat's normalupright position. Do not use the handle forfolding down the seat when the seat is in theposition for accessing the third row.
1. Pull up and hold the handle on the side of the seat while the backrest is being folded down. 2. Make sure that backrest and head restraint
do not come in contact with the seat in frontwhile the backrest is being folded down. Foldthe backrest down until it locks into position.
> The seat cushion will move downward/forward when the backrest is folded down and create a flat surface. The headrestraint folds down automatically whenthe backrest is lowered.
WARNING
Make sure the backrest is securely locked into position after it is folded down.
To return the backrest to the upright position:
1. Pull up and hold the handle on the side of the seat while the backrest is being folded up.
2. Make sure that backrest and head restraint do not come in contact with the seat in frontwhile the backrest is being folded up. Fold upthe backrest and release the handle.
3. Press the backrest until it locks into position.
4. Fold up the head restraint manually.

WARNING
Make sure that the rear seat backrest and head restraint are locked securely in placeafter the seat is folded up. The head restraints at the outer seats must always be raised when there is a passenger inone of these spots of the rear seat.
WARNING
The head restraints on the outboard second- row seats must always be folded up whenthere are passengers in the third row of seats *.

Adjusting the second row headrestraints
Adjust the center head restraint in the rear seat to the seat occupant's height. Fold down the outboard head restraints * to improve rear visibil-
ity.
Adjusting the center head restraint
The center head restraint should be adjusted to suit the passenger's height. The entire back ofthe head should be covered if possible. Manuallymove the restraint up or down as needed.
To lower the restraint, press and hold the button (located between the backrest and the headrestraint, see illustration) while carefully loweringthe head restraint.
WARNING
The center seat head restraint must be in its lowest position when the seat is not occupied.When the center seat is occupied, the headrestraint must be correctly adjusted to thepassenger's height, covering the entire backof the head if possible.
