Driving through standing water
Driving the vehicle through a deep pool of stand- ing water on a water-covered roadway is calledfording. This must be done with great caution.
The vehicle can be driven through water up to a depth of 45 cm (17.7 in) at no more than walkingspeed. Be particularly careful when drivingthrough flowing water. When driving through standing water, drive slowly and do not stop the vehicle. When you havepassed the water, press lightly on the brake pedaland check that the brakes are functioning prop-erly. Water, mud, slush, etc. can make the brakelinings slippery, resulting in delayed brakingeffect.
• If the vehicle is equipped with contacts for anelectric heater or trailer coupling, clean theseafter driving in water or mud.
• Do not allow the vehicle to stand in water upto the sills any longer than absolutely neces-sary. This could result in electrical malfunc-tions.
CAUTION
•Engine damage could occur if water enters the air cleaner.
• If water enters the transmission, the lubri-cating ability of the oils is reduced andthe service life of these systems is short-ened.
• Damage to any component, engine,transmission, turbocharger, differential orits internal components caused by flood-ing, vapor lock or insufficient oil is notcovered under warranty.
• If the engine stalls while the vehicle is inwater, do not attempt to restart it. Havethe vehicle towed out of the water to aworkshop. An authorized Volvo workshopis recommended. Risk of engine failure.

Connecting a phone to the car viaBluetooth for the first time
Pair a Bluetooth-enabled phone to the vehicle to make calls, send/receive text messages andwirelessly play media from the vehicle, or con-nect the vehicle to the Internet.
Two Bluetooth devices can be connected at the same time, but in that case, only one will be usedfor wireless playback. The most recently pairedphone will be automatically connected to makecalls, send/receive text messages, play media oruse as an Internet connection. To change whatthe phone is used for when it is paired, go to
Bluetooth Devices settings.
After the device has been connected/registered for the first time via Bluetooth, the device nolonger needs to be visible/searchable. It justneeds to have Bluetooth activated. To connectthe vehicle to the Internet using a phone, thephone's Wi-Fi sharing function (personal hot-spot/tethering) must be activated. A maximum of20 paired Bluetooth devices can be stored in thevehicle. There are two ways to pair a phone to the vehicle. Searching for the phone from the vehicle orsearching for the vehicle from the phone.
Option 1 - searching for the phone from the vehicle
1. Make the phone discoverable/visible using its Bluetooth function. 2. To connect the vehicle to the Internet via the
phone's Bluetooth function, activate Internetsharing (tethering/personal hotspot) viaBluetooth in the phone.
3. Open the phone tile.
•If no phone has been paired to the vehi- cle, tap
Add phone.
• If a phone has been paired to the vehicle, tap
Change. Tap Add phone in the
pop-up window.
> A list of available Bluetooth devices will be displayed. The list will be updated as new devices are discovered.
4. Tap the name of the phone you would like to connect.
5. Make sure that the code displayed in the vehicle matches the one in the phone. Con-firm the code in both cases.
6. In the phone, accept or cancel the options for selecting the phone's contacts and textmessages.
NOTE
• The message function must be activated in certain phones.
• Not all cell phones are fully compatibleand may not be able to display contactsand messages in the vehicle.

2. Activate Bluetooth in the phone.

5. Select the vehicle's name from the list of devices in the phone.
6. A pop-up window for the connection is shown in the car. Confirm the connection.
7. Make sure that the code displayed in the vehicle matches the one in the externaldevice. Confirm the code in both cases.
8. In the phone, accept or cancel the options for selecting the phone's contacts and textmessages.
NOTE

NOTE
If the phone's operating system is being updated, it is possible that the connection willbe interrupted. Delete the phone from the carand reconnect.

After the test message has been read aloud, it is possible to answer briefly with dictation if thevehicle has an Internet connection.

Scroll by letter or to find contacts. Only
letters matching existing contacts in the phone book will be shown.
Search contacts - tap to search by

Favorites - tap to add/remove a con-
tact from the list of favorites.
NOTE

Tread wear indicatorThe tread wear indicator shows the status of the tire's tread.
The tread wear indicator is a narrow elevated strip running across the tire's longitudinal treadgrooves. The letters TWI (Tread Wear Indicator)are visible on the side of the tire. When approxi-mately 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) is left on the tread,the tread will be at the same height as the treadwear indicator. Replace the tire as soon as possi-ble. Tires with low tread offer very poor traction inrain or snow.

: A placard show-

• Tire Identification Number (TIN)
: A number
on the sidewall of each tire providing infor-mation about the tire brand and manufactur-ing plant, tire size and date of manufacture.
• Inflation pressure
: A measure of the
amount of air in a tire.
• Standard load
: A class of P-metric or Metric
tires designed to carry a maximum load at 35psi [37 psi (2.5 bar) for Metric tires]. Increas-ing the inflation pressure beyond this pres-sure will not increase the tires load carryingcapability.
• Extra load
: A class of P-metric or Metric
tires designed to carry a heavier maximumload at 41 psi [43 psi (2.9 bar) for Metrictires]. Increasing the inflation pressurebeyond this pressure will not increase thetire's load carrying capability.
• kPa
: Kilopascal, a metric unit of air pressure.
• PSI
: Pounds per square inch, a standard unit
of air pressure. •
B-pillar
: The structural member at the side
of the vehicle behind the front door.
• Bead area of the tire
: Area of the tire next
to the rim.
• Sidewall of the tire
: Area between the bead
area and the tread.
• Tread area of the tire
: Area of the perime-
ter of the tire that contacts the road whenmounted on the vehicle.
• Rim
: The metal support (wheel) for a tire or a
tire and tube assembly upon which the tirebeads are seated.
• Maximum load rating
: a figure indicating
the maximum load in pounds and kilogramsthat can be carried by the tire. This rating isestablished by the tire manufacturer.
• Maximum permissible inflation pressure
:
the greatest amount of air pressure thatshould ever be put in the tire. This limit is setby the tire manufacturer.
• Recommended tire inflation pressure
:
inflation pressure, established by Volvo,which is based on the type of tires that aremounted on a vehicle at the factory. Thisinformation can be found on the tire inflationplacard(s) located on the driver's side B-pillarand in the tire inflation table in this chapter.
• Cold tires
: The tires are considered to be
cold when they have the same temperatureas the surrounding (ambient) air. This tem-
