Driver support systems
The vehicle is equipped with a number of driver support systems that can provide the driver withactive or passive assistance in various situations.
The system can, for example, help the driver maintain a set speed or a set time interval to thevehicle ahead, help prevent a collision by warningthe driver and applying the brakes, or assist thedriver while parking. Some of the systems are standard and others are options. This also varies from market to market.

Speed-dependent steering wheelresistance
Speed-dependent power steering increases the steering wheel resistance in pace with the vehi-cle's speed to give the driver an enhanced feel-ing of control and stability.
Steering may feel stiffer on highways. When parking and at low speeds, it will be easier tomove the steering wheel.
NOTE
In some situations, the power steering may become too hot and require temporary cool-ing – during such time the power steering willwork at reduced output and the steeringwheel may feel more difficult to move. In parallel with the temporarily reduced steer- ing assistance, the driver display shows amessage as well as a STEERING WHEELsymbol.

Electronic Stability Control Sportmode limitations
There are certain limitations associated with the ESC 10
system's subfunction
ESC Sport Modebeing activated.The ESC Sport Mode function cannot be
selected when any of the following functions are activated:
• Speed limiter
• Cruise control
• Adaptive Cruise Control
• Pilot Assist.

Speed limiterA Speed Limiter (SL 11
) could be described as a
reverse cruise control. The driver regulates the vehicle's speed using the accelerator pedal, butis prevented by the Speed Limiter from inadver-tently exceeding a preset maximum speed.

• The Speed Limiter is not a substitute forthe driver's attention and judgment. Thedriver is always responsible for ensuringthe vehicle is driven in a safe manner, atthe appropriate speed, with an appropri-ate distance to other vehicles, and inaccordance with current traffic rules andregulations.

To reactivate the Speed Limiter from standby mode:
–Press the button on the steering wheel
(1).
> The speed limit markings in the instru- ment panel will change from GRAY to WHITE. The vehicle's speed will onceagain be limited to the most recently setspeed.

–Press the button on the steering wheel
(2).
> The speed limit markings and symbols in the instrument panel will change from GRAY to WHITE and the vehicle's currentspeed will be set as the maximum speed.

Turning off Cruise Control
The Speed Limiter (SL 17
) can be turned off.

1. Press the button on the steering wheel

> The Speed Limiter will go into standby mode.
2. Press the ◀ (1) or ▶ (3) buttons on the
steering wheel to select another function.
> The Speed Limiter symbol and marking (4) in the instrument panel will go out and the set maximum speed will be erased.

Cruise Control limitations
On steep downgrades, the Speed limiter's brak- ing capacity may not be sufficient and the setmaximum speed may be exceeded. If this hap- pens,
Speed limit exceeded will be displayed in
the instrument panel to alert the driver.
NOTE
A text message on exceeded max. speed is activated if the speed is exceeded by at least3 km/h (ca 2 mph).

Automatic Speed Limiter
The Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL 18
) function
helps the driver adapt the vehicle's maximum speed to the posted speed limits.
The Speed Limiter (SL 19
) function can be
switched to Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL). The Automatic Speed Limiter function uses speed information from the Road Sign Informa- tion function 20
to automatically adapt the vehi-
cle's maximum speed.

Activating and starting CruiseControl

selected and activated in order to regulate speed.

Putting Cruise Control in standby modeTo put Cruise Control in standby mode:
–Tap ◀ (1) or ▶ (3) and scroll to the (4) function.
> A symbol will appear and Cruise Control
can then be activated.
Activating/starting Cruise ControlIn order to start Cruise Control from standby mode, the vehicle's current speed must be30 km/h (20 mph) or higher. The lowest speedthat can be set is 30 km/h (20 mph). To start Cruise Control:
–With the function displayed, press
(2) on the steering wheel keypad.
> Cruise Control will be started and the vehicle's current speed will be set.
NOTE
Cruise control can then not be connected at speeds below 30 km/h (20 mph).

changes the speed in +/- 1 mph (+/- 1 km/h) increments.
• Press

the set speed indicator (4) has moved tothe desired speed. •
The most recently set speed will be stored.
If speed is increased by depressing the accelera- tor pedal while pressing the
(1) button on
the steering wheel, the vehicle's speed when the button is pressed will be stored as the set speed. Temporarily increasing speed using the accelera- tor pedal, e.g. when passing another vehicle, willnot affect the setting. The vehicle will return tothe set speed when the accelerator pedal isreleased.
For vehicles with both CC and ACC
–Change a set speed by pressing the (1)
or

Using engine braking instead of
applying the brakes
Cruise Control regulates speed by lightly applyingthe brakes. On downgrades, it can sometimes bedesirable to roll a bit faster and let speed bereduced instead by engine braking alone. Thedriver can temporarily disengage the Cruise Con-trol braking function. To disengage CC:
–Press the accelerator pedal about halfway down and then release it.
> Cruise Control will automatically disen- gage the automatic brake function and speed will only be reduced using theengine braking function.
