WA R N I N GNever drive with passengers or cargo onthe flat seat. This is extremely dangerousand can cause severe or fatal injury ordeath in an accident
or if heavy braking is
required.CAUTIONAdjust the seats only when the vehicle isstopped in a safe place.Seat should be adjusted only by adults toavoid accidents. When sliding the seat

All seats are equipped with a seat belt whichuses one combined lap-and-shoulder belt withan emergency locking retractor. This system is designed to provide both com-fort and safety. It perm
its full extension and
automatic retraction of the belts during nor-mal vehicle operation.
A sensing device
inside the belt retractor is designed to lock theretractor in the event of a sudden change inthe vehicle’s motion.
1. Occupants should always
sit back in their
seats with their backs against the uprightseatback. To reduce
the risk of serious
injury or death during deployment of theairbag, adjust the driver’s seat as far backas possible while maintaining a positionthat still enables you to fully apply thepedals, easily control the steering wheel, and safely operate the vehicle. The frontpassenger seat should also be moved asfar back as possible. Refer to “Supple-mental Restraint System (SRS) - airbag”on page 4-35. Also refer to “To adjust theseat forward or backward” on page 4-5.
2. Before using the center seat belt for sec-ond row, make sure that the detachableanchor is securely
latched and the seat
belt is not twisted. For details, refer topage 4-21.
Seat belt instructions
NOTE
For instructions on installing a child restraintsystem using a seat belt
, refer to “Installing a
child restraint system
using the seat belt” on
page 4-32.
WA R N I N GTo reduce the risk of serious injury ordeath in the event of
an accident or sud-
den stop, all seatbacks should be kept inthe upright position while the vehicle is inmotion.Seat belt performance during an accidentcan be adversely affect
ed if the seatbacks
are reclined. The more a seatback isreclined, the more likely seat belt perfor-mance will be advers
ely affected. If the
seat belt is not prop
erly positioned against
the body during an accident, there isincreased risk you will slide under the beltand receive serious
injury or death.

all the way. Then, pull the belt out
slowly once again.
NOTE
With the exception of the seat belt for thedriver, the seat belts in
all other seating posi-
tions are equipped with an Automatic Lock-ing Retractor (ALR) function. If you pull theseat belt fully out of th
e retractor, the retrac-
tor will switch to its ALR child restraintinstallation function (see page 4-32).When the ALR function has been activated, the seat belt will only re
tract. If this happens,
let the belt fully retract, then pull the seatbelt back out, repeating steps 1 through 4.WA R N I N GBe sure the lap belt portion fits snugly andis worn as low as possible across the hips, not around the waist. Failure to follow thisinstruction will increase the risk of seriousinjury or death in the
event of an accident.
Be sure the seat belt webbing is nottwisted when worn. Twisted webbing mayadversely affect seat belt performance.

that the shoulder belt
is positioned across
the center of your shoulder without touch-ing your neck. The sh

With the exception of the driver, the seat beltin all other seating pos
itions can be converted
from normal Emergency Locking Retractor(ELR) mode, to Automatic Locking Retractor(ALR) mode. This mean
s that when you pull
the seat belt fully out of the retractor, theretractor will switch to its ALR child restraint
installation function.
Always use the ALR
child restraint installation function when youinstall a child restraint system using the seatbelt.Children 12 years old and under shouldalways be restrained in the rear seat, when-ever possible, although the front passengerseat belt can also be converted to ALR mode.
1. Place the child restraint system on the seatwhere you wish to install it.To help assure proper fitting of the childrestraint system, alwa
ys remove the head
restraint. When installing the front-facing childrestraint system on the second row seat, adjust the angle of the second row seat-back to the most upright position.
When using a child restraint in a rearseating position, always review theinstructions provided with that restraintto make sure it is compatible with thisvehicle and to understand how to properlyinstall it.Child restraints, incl
uding booster seats,
come in different sizes and configurations.Depending on where you
place these child
restraints, and depending on their size andconfiguration, you may not be able toaccess or properly use one or more adja-cent seat belt assemblies. If this occurs, the adjacent seating po

should not be used. Failure to use a seatbelt or improper use of a seat belt canresult in serious inju
ry or death should a
crash occur.
