NOTE
In order to secure a child restraint systemcompatible with the LATCH system, use thelower anchor points in the outboard positionsof the second row seat. It is not necessary touse the vehicle’s seat
belt. The vehicle’s seat
belt, however, MUST be
used to secure a
child restraint system in the middle seatingposition of the second row seat.WA R N I N GIf there is any foreign material in oraround the lower an
chors, remove it
before installing the child restraint sys-tem. Also, make sure the seat belt is awayfrom, not looped through or otherwiseinterfering with, the child restraint sys-tem. If foreign matter is not removedand/or the seat belt
interferes with the
child restraint system, the child restraintsystem will not be secured properly, coulddetach and move forw
ard in the event of
sudden braking or an
accident, and could
result in injury to the child or other vehi-cle occupants. When the vehicle is
moving, do not adjust
the seat where the child restraint system isinstalled.
NOTE
If it is difficult to
latch the tether strap hook,
turn the hook sideways.WA R N I N GChild restraint system tether anchors aredesigned only to with
stand loads from cor-
rectly fitted child restraint systems. Underno circumstances are they to be used foradult seat belts, harnesses, for attachingother items, or equipment to the vehicle.

With the exception of the driver, the seat beltin all other seating pos
itions can be converted
from normal Emergency Locking Retractor(ELR) mode, to Automatic Locking Retractor(ALR) mode. This mean
s that when you pull
the seat belt fully out of the retractor, theretractor will switch to its ALR child restraint
installation function.
Always use the ALR
child restraint installation function when youinstall a child restraint system using the seatbelt.Children 12 years old and under shouldalways be restrained in the rear seat, when-ever possible, although the front passengerseat belt can also be converted to ALR mode.
1. Place the child restraint system on the seatwhere you wish to install it.To help assure proper fitting of the childrestraint system, alwa
ys remove the head
restraint. When installing the front-facing childrestraint system on the second row seat, adjust the angle of the second row seat-back to the most upright position.
When using a child restraint in a rearseating position, always review theinstructions provided with that restraintto make sure it is compatible with thisvehicle and to understand how to properlyinstall it.Child restraints, incl
uding booster seats,
come in different sizes and configurations.Depending on where you
place these child
restraints, and depending on their size andconfiguration, you may not be able toaccess or properly use one or more adja-cent seat belt assemblies. If this occurs, the adjacent seating po
sition or positions
should not be used. Failure to use a seatbelt or improper use of a seat belt canresult in serious inju
ry or death should a
crash occur.

2. Route the seat belt through the childrestraint system acco
rding to the instruc-
tions provided by the child restraint sys-tem’s manufacturer. Then insert the seatbelt latch plate into
the buckle. Make sure
you hear a “click” when you insert thelatch plate into the buckle.
3. To activate the ALR child restraint instal-lation function, slowly pull the shoulderpart of the belt all the way out of theretractor until it stops. Then let the beltfeed back into the retractor.4. After the belt has retracted, tug on it.If the belt is in the ALR function, you willnot be able to pull it out. If the webbingcan be pulled out from retractor, the ALRfunction has not been activated and youwill need to repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. After confirming that the belt is locked, grab the shoulder part of the belt near thebuckle and pull up to remove any slackfrom the lap part of the belt allowing theslack to feed into the retractor. Remember,if the lap belt portion is not tight, the childrestraint system
will not be secure. It may
help to put your weight on the childrestraint system and/or push on its seat-back while pulling up on the belt (Seeillustration).
If your child restraint system requires the useof a tether strap, fasten the tether strap inaccordance with the following procedures.

6. Latch the tether strap hook (A) of thechild restraint system to the tether anchorbar (B) and tighten the tether strap so it issecurely fastened.
7. Before putting your child in the restraint, push and pull the restraint in all directionsto be sure it is firmly secure. Do thisbefore each use. If the child restraint sys-tem is not firmly s
ecure, repeat steps 1
through 6.8. To remove a child restraint system fromthe vehicle and deac
tivate the ALR mode,
remove the child from the restraint.Unlatch the buckle. Th
en remove the belt
from the restraint and let the belt fullyretract.9. Reinstall the head restraint.Refer to “Head restraints” on page 4-11.

Children who have outgrown a child restraintsystem should be seated in the rear seat andwear the seat belt. If the shoulder belt crossestheir face or neck, and/
or the lap belt crosses
their stomach, a commercially availablebooster seat must be used to raise the child sothat the shoulder belt
crosses their shoulder
and the lap belt remains positioned lowacross their hips. The booster seat should fitthe vehicle seat and ha

Children who have outgrown child restraint systems
WA R N I N GAny child who is too small to properlywear a seat belt
must be properly
restrained in an appropriate childrestraint system, to reduce their risk ofserious injury or de
ath in an
accident.
A child should never be
left unattended in,
or unsupervised around, your vehicle. When you leave the ve
hicle, always take
the child out as well.Children can die from heat stroke if left ortrapped inside the vehicle, especially onhot days.Keep your vehicle locked when not in use.Keep your vehicle keys away from chil-dren.

cuts, tears, increase in thickness in any sec-tion of the webbing from broken fibers, orsevere fading from sunlig

N00407701889
This vehicle is equippe
d with a Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS), which includes air-bags for the driver and passengers. The SRS front airbags are designed to supple-ment the primary protection of the driver andfront passenger seat belt systems by provid-ing those occupants w
ith protection against
head and chest injuries
in certain moderate to
severe frontal collisi
ons. The SRS front air-
bags, together with sensors at the front of thevehicle and sensors attached to the frontseats, form an advanced airbag system. The SRS driver’s knee airbag is designed tosupplement the primary protection of thedriver’s seat belt system. It can reduce theforward movement of the driver’s lower legsand provide increased
overall body protection
in certain moderate to
severe frontal colli-
sions. The SRS side airbags and the curtain airbagsare also designed to supp
lement the seat belts.
The SRS side airbags provide the driver andfront passenger with pr
otection against chest
injuries by deploying the bag on the sideimpacted in moderate
to severe side impact
collisions. The SRS curtain airbags provide
the driver and the passengers on the front seatand the second row outboard seats with pro-tection against head injuries by deploying thecurtain airbag on the si
de impacted in moder-
ate to severe side imp
act collisions and by
deploying both curtain
airbags when a roll-
over is detected. The curtain airbags are alsodesigned to help reduce the risk of completeand partial ejection fro
m the vehicle through
side windows in both side impact and roll-over type accidents. The SRS airbags are NOT a substitute for useof the seat belts. For maximum protection inall types of accident
s, seat belts must
ALWAYS be worn by everyone who drives orrides in this vehicle
(with infants and small
children in an appropriate child restraint sys-tem in the rear seat, and older children buck-led in the rear seat). Refer to “Child restraintsystems” on page 4-27.
WA R N I N GDo not attempt to repair or replace anypart of the seat belt assemblies. This workshould be done
by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Failure to havean authorized Mits
ubishi Motors dealer
perform the work could reduce the effec-tiveness of the belts and could result in aserious injury or de
ath in an accident.
Never use an organic solvent to clean theseat belt webbing. Do not attempt tobleach or re-dye th
e seat belt webbing.
These may weaken the
seat belt webbing,
increasing risk of in
jury or death in an
accident.Clean seat belt webbing only with mildsoap or detergent solution and rinse itwith lukewarm water, and dry the seatbelt webbing completely before retractingit.

WA R N I N GIT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ALWAYSWEAR YOUR SEAT BELT PROPERLYEVEN WITH AN AIRBAG.• Seat belts help keep the driver and pas-sengers properly positioned. Thisreduces the risk of injury in all collisions, and reduces the risk of serious injuries ordeath when the airbags inflate.During sudden brakin
g just before a col-
lision, an unrestra
ined or improperly
restrained driver or front passenger canmove forward into di
rect contact with, or
within close proximity to, the airbagwhen it begins to inflate. The beginning stage of
airbag inflation is
the most forceful and can cause seriousinjuries or death if the occupant comes incontact with the ai
rbag at this time.
• Seat belts reduce the risk of injury inrear impact collisions, and in lower-speed frontal collisions because the air-bags are not designed
to inflate in those
situations.• Seat belts reduce the risk of beingthrown from your vehi
cle in a collision or
rollover.
WA R N I N GIT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE PROP-ERLY SEATED.• A driver or front passenger sitting tooclose to the steering wheel or instrumentpanel during airbag deployment can beseriously injure
d or killed.
• Airbags inflate ve
ry quickly and with
great force. If the driver and front pas-senger are not properly seated andrestrained, the airbag may not providethe proper protection, and can causeserious injuries or death when it inflates.• To reduce the risk to the driver of seriousinjury or death due to a deployingdriver’s airbag, al
ways properly wear
your seat belt and ad
just the driver’s seat
as far back as possible, maintaining aposition that still
allows the driver to
have good control of the steering wheel, brake, accelerator,
and other vehicle con-
trols.• To reduce the risk to the front passengerof serious injury or death from a deploy-ing passenger’s airbag, make sure thepassenger always we
ars the seat belt
properly, remains seat
ed upright and all
the way back in the seat, and positionsthe seat as far back as possible.• Seat all infants and children in the rearseat, properly restrain
ed in an appropri-
ate child restraint system.
WA R N I N GAirbags inflate very
quickly and with
great force. Do not sit on the edge of theseat or sit with your
lower legs too close to
the instrument panel,
or lean your head or
chest close to the steering wheel or theinstrument panel.Do not put your feet or
legs on or against
the instrument panel.

WA R N I N GInfants and small children should neverride unrestrained,
or lean against the
instrument panel. They should never rideheld in your arms or on your lap. Theycan be seriously inju
red or killed in an
accident, especially when the airbagsinflate. Seat all infants and children in therear seat, properly re
strained in an appro-
priate child restraint system. Refer to“Child restraint syst
ems” on page 4-27.
WA R N I N GNEVER put REAR-FACING CHILDRESTRAINT SYSTEMS or INFANTRESTRAINT SYSTEMS in the front pas-senger seat. This places the infant tooclose to the passenger’s airbag. Duringdeployment of that airbag, the infant canbe seriously inju
red or killed.
Rear-facing child restraint systems orinfant restraint systems must only be usedin the rear seat.Airbag
WA R N I N GFRONT-FACING CHILD RESTRAINTSYSTEMS should be used in the rear seatwhenever possible. If they must be used inthe front passenger seat, move the seat tothe most rearward position and make surethe child stays in the child restraint sys-tem, properly restrained. Failure to followthese instructions could result in seriousinjury or death to the child.WA R N I N GOlder children should be seated in therear seat with their seat belt properlyworn, and with an
appropriate booster
seat if needed.Refer to “Children

In the following situ-
ations, the indicator will stay on to show thatthe passenger front airb
ag is not operational.
The front passenger’s seat is not occupied.
WA R N I N GIf any of the follow
ing conditions occur,
you should immediatel
y have your vehicle
inspected by an au

• The SRS warning li
ght comes on while
you are driving.
To ensure that the passenger’s seat occu-pant classification sensor system can sensecorrectly, observe the following instruc-tions. Failure to follow these instructionscan adversely affect
the performance of
the passenger’s airbag system.• Adjust the seat to the correct position, and sit well back
against the seatback.
Refer to “Front seats” on page 4-4.• Do not recline the seatback more thannecessary.• Never have more th
an one person (adult
or child) sitting on the seat.• Do not place anything between the seatand the floor console.• When attaching a child restraint system, secure it firmly.• Do not place luggage or other objects onthe seat.• Do not use a seat cover or a cushion.• Do not modify or re
place the seat and
seat belt.• Do not place luggage or other objectsunder the seat.• Do not place and use
an electronic device
such as a computer on the seat.• Do not place heavy obje
cts on the seat or
stick pins, needles, or other objects intoit.• Do not remove the seat cushion skin.WA R N I N G
• If any liquid is spilled on the seat, wipe itand dry the seat immediately.
